The nutritive value of different heat processed textured soybean proteins was measured by means of chemical and biologic methods. The experiment was divided into four groups (10 rats, each): (1) High heat treated textured soybean protein group; (2) Low heat treated textured soybean protein group; (3) Casein group; (4) Protein free group. The former three groups contained 10% protein, the latter contained less than 0.56% protein. The preperations were fed to 4 groups of weanling male rats for 4 weeks. The results showed that the body weight increments in the three groups were 146.4,158.1,188.7g; the protein effeciency ratio (PER) 2.17, 2.23, 2.74; the net protein ratio (NPR) 3.52, 3.51, 3.84; the true digestibility 84.5, 83.4, 95.8; the biological value 68.7, 64.6, 68.9 and net protein utilization 58.1, 54.0, and 66.1 respectively. Those results indicated that there was no significant difference between the high and low heat treated textured soybean protein.

Objective To study the function and diurnal variation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid(HPT) axis, and the relationship with clinical characteristics of di-urnal rhythm in depressed patients. Methods Forty-nine depressed patients met diagnostic DSM-Ⅳ criteria and thirty-eight normal controls were collected. The plasma levels of cortisol (CORT), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), T3, T4, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) at 7 am and 7 pm were measured by radioimmunoassay, then the results concemed were compared among the depressed groups with and without diurnal variation and control group by multivariate analysis of variance. Results The plasma level of morning CORT, morning and evening TSH ((365.94±120.78) nmol/L; (6.24±2.47)μIU/ml; (6.68±2.42)μIU/ml; respectively) were respective-ly higher than those of control group((284.91±83.39) nmol/L; (3.82±1.75)μIU/ml;(4.01±1.69)μIU/ ml, P<0.05). The plasma levels of morning and evening T4 were significantly lower than those of control group(P <0.05). The CORT morning-evening difference variable distinguished between depressed and control group (P< 0.001),but no significant differences could be found between the depressed groups with and without diurnal varia-tion. There were no significant differences in the CORT, T3, T4, TSH morning-evening difference variable between various clinical subtypes of depressed patient (unipolar/bipolar; psychotic/nonpsychotic). Conclusion Abnormal CORT morning-evening difference variable was observed in the depressed patients compared with normal controls, and may be used as a special trait mark of depressed group.

Objective: To establish an in vitro model of brain blood barrier (BBB) using cultured mouse brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMVEC). Methods: Mouse BMVEC were seeded on micro pore membrane of gelatin coated cell culture insert and cultured to confluence. The establishment of BBB was preliminary judged by a 4 h water leaking test. The tight junctions between BMVEC were demonstrated by scanning and transmission electron microscope. The transendothelial electrical resistance(TEER) over BMVEC was measured. The permeability of Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) through the BBB was analyzed and the effect of RMP 7 on permeability of the BBB was investigated. Results: The 4 h water leaking test became positive when BMVEC were cultured to confluence. By scanning and transmission electron microscope, the tight junctions were demonstrated on confluent BMVEC. The TEER over BMVEC monolayer increased 3.2 and 7.68 times and the permeability rates for HRP were 13.4% and 6.7% respectively, as compared with sub confluent BMVEC and human umbilical vein endothelial cell monolayer(HUVEC). The HRP permeability rate in the model of BBB increased 2.7 times after treatment with RMP 7. Conclusion: The established in vitro model of BBB has basic characteristics of BBB in vivo , and is suitable for central nervous system (CNS) drug research over BBB.

OBJECTIVE: In this paper, an intelligent system using BP neural networks (BPNN) is presented for early detection coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS: Based on the four features of ECG signals and six basic parameters of patients, BPNN was built and trained. Especially the method which combined feature extraction and classification was discussed. RESULTS: The performance of the intelligent system has been evaluated in 20 samples. The test results showed that this system was effective in detecting CAD. The correct classification rate was about 90% for normal subjects and 100% for abnormal subjects. CONCLUSION: BPNN could quite accurately detect abnormal subjects. Because it is not expensive and noninvasive, it is fit to examine health of the elderly and has good application foreground.

Objective To evaluate the effect of ilaprazole enteric tablets on intragastric pH in duodenal ulcer patients. Methods A randomized, double blind, positive controlled clinical trial was carried out. A total of forty-two patients with duodenal ulcer were randomized into low dose ilaprazole group (5 mg/d), medium dose ilaprazole group (10 mg/d), high dose ilaprazole group(20 mg/d) and omeprazole group(20 mg/d). An ambulatory 24 hour intragastric pH study was performed at the fifth treatment day. Fraction time pH above 3, 4 or 5, median values of 24 hour diurnal pH and 12 hour nocturnal pH, the percentage of patients with total time pH above 3, 4 or 5 at least for 18 hours were evaluated. Results There were no significant differences of fraction time pH above 3 or 4, median values of 24 hour diurnal pH and 12 hour nocturnal pH and the percentage of patients with total time pH above 3, 4 or 5 at least for 18 hours among all the groups with different doses of ilaprazole and the omeprazole group. The fraction time pH above 5 in medium and high dose ilaprazole groups were (87.96 ± 12. 29)% and (89.86±15. 18)% respectively, which was higher than that in low dose ilaprazole group [(67. 17± 30. 16)%] and omeprazole group[(76. 14 ± 16. 75)%], P <0. 05. Conclusion Ilaprazole has a strong effect on intragastric acid control with a dose dependent trend.

Objective To evaluate the influence of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication on clinical manifestations, endoscopic features and pathological findings of chronic gastritis. Methods This was a multiple-center, prospective and randomized cohort study. Patients with non-atrophy chronic gastritis from January 2009 to December 2010 were randomized into 3 groups as Hp positive group with eradication, Hp positive group without eradication and Hp negative group. Clinical manifestations, endoscopic findings and pathologic changes of inflammation were compared before and after administration of gastric mucosal protective agent for 8 weeks. Results A total of 211 patients were recruited. Changes of symptom score, endoscopic erosion and mucosal inflammation were significantly different before and after treatment in 3 groups. The decrease in symptom scores of eradication group was ( 3.56 ± 1.37 ), which was significantly higher than that of non-eradication group (2. 80 ± 1.30, P <0. 01 ). The decrease of mucosal inflammation and inflammatory activity scores in eradicate group was 1.08 ± 1.34 and 1.42 ± 1.09, respectively, which were also significantly higher than those of the eradication group (0. 49 ± 1.47 and 0. 61 ± 1.34, P <0. 01 ). But the improvement of endoscopic erosion in 2 groups showed no significant difference. There were no significant differences in these variables between non-eradication group and Hp-negative group ( P > 0. 05 ). Conclusion For chronic non-atrophic gastritis patients with positive Hp infection, combination of mucosal protective agents and Hp eradication can achieve better improvement in symptoms and gastric inflammation repair.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are a representative probiotic. As the dominant flora in the human intestinal tract, LAB can regulate the balance of human intestinal flora and improve host health. The purpose of this study was to isolate and screen LAB that are well suited to the intestinal characteristics of the Chinese population, with excellent probiotics and high antibacterial activity. After 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) homology and phylogenetic tree analysis, potential probiotics were tested for their antibacterial activity, resistance to artificial gastrointestinal fluid and drugs, surface hydrophobicity, and safety. Three strains of LAB with acid resistance, bile salt resistance, epithelial cell adhesion, and no multidrug resistance were selected:
