This study examined the expression of cell adhesion molecule 1 (CADM1) in pancreatic cancer and the possible mechanism. The expression of CADM1 was detected by immunohistochemistry in tissues of pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis, and normal pancreas. The plasmid pcDNA3.1-Hygro(+)/CADM1 was transfected into PANC-1 cells (a pancreatic cancer cell line). The expression of CADM1 in the transfected cells was determined by RT-PCR and Western blotting. Cell growth was measured by the MTT method and cell apoptosis by flow cytometry. The results showed that CADM1 was weakly expressed in tissues of pancreatic cancer in contrast to its high expression in normal pancreatic and pancreatitis tissues. The expression level of CADM in pancreatic caner was intensely correlated with the differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis and TNM stages. The growth of CADM1-transfected PANC-1 cells was significantly suppressed in vitro by a G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis occurrence. It was concluded that re-expression of CADM1 inhibits the growth of pancreatic cancer cells and induces their apoptosis in vitro. As a tumor suppressor gene, CADM1 plays an important role in the occurrence, progression and metastasis of pancreatic cancer.

Objective To investigate the role and existing dilemmas of policies related to traditional Chinese medicine talents in China in terms of their growth paths and attitudes towards existing policies. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the current situation of the development of traditional Chinese medicine talents and their views on the existing policies. Results 278 valid questionnaires were collected. In general, traditional Chinese medicine talents are quite satisfied with the current talent policy, the interviewees with senior professional titles have a better understanding of the talent policy, and the young members and members of the Chinese society of traditional Chinese medicine have a more positive and urgent attitude towards building a talent policy and evaluation index system with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics.Respondents generally believe that the current financial support for talent projects of traditional Chinese medicine is average, but it can stimulate the growth of young scholars. The title of talents and the achievements of scholars'scientific research complement each other. Conclusion In the process of the development of the field of traditional Chinese medicine,we should speed up the training of innovative talents of traditional Chinese medicine, establish talent evaluation indicators with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics, improve the evaluation and project management system of traditional Chinese medicine talents, and reasonably optimize the incentive mechanism brought by the title of talents.

Population genomic approaches, which take advantages of high-throughput genotyping, are powerful yet costly methods to scan for selective sweeps.DNA-pooling strategies have been widely used for association studies because it is a cost-effective alternative to large-scale individual genotyping. Here,we performed an SNP-MaP(single nucleotide polymorphism microarrays and pooling)analysis using samples from Eurasia to evaluate the efficiency of pooling strategy in genome-wide scans for selection.By conducting simulations of allelotype data,we first demonstrated that the boxplot with average heterozygosity(HET)is a promising method to detect strong selective sweeps with a moderate level of pooling error.Based on this,we used a sliding window analysis of HET to detect the large contiguous regions(LCRs)putatively under selective sweeps from Eurasia datasets. This survey identified 63 LCRs in a European population. These signals were further supported by the integrated haplotype score(iHS)test using HapMap Ⅱ data.We also confirrned the European-specific signatures of positive selection from several previously identified genes(KEL,TRPV5,TRPV6,EPHB6).In summary, our results not only revealed the high credibility of SNP-MaP strategy in scanning for selective sweeps, but also provided an insight into the population differentiation.
