ObjectiveTo evaluate the outcomes and toxicities of elderly nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with conventional radiotherapy alone.MethodsFrom January 1995 to December 1998,95 newly diagnosed nasopharyngeai carcinoma with age ≥65 years treated in our hospital. The clinical data were analyzed retrospectively.Kaplan-Meier method was used for analysis of local-regional control survival and distant metastasis-free survival. The Logrank test was used for univariate prognostic analysis and Cox regression was used for multivariable prognostic analysis.ResultsThe follow-up rate was 98%.The 3-,5- and 8-year local-regional control (LRC) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) rates were 89%,87%,84% and 85%,79%,79%,respectively. The most common acute toxicities were grade1-2 leukopenia (36%),skin reaction (64%) and mucositis (66%).The most frequent late toxicities were hearing impairment (8%),trismus ( 10% ) and radiation-induced cranial neuropathy (5%).In univariate analysis, interruption of radiotherapy ( χ2 =7.45,P =0.006 ) and regional neck lymph nodes response (χ2 =4.17,P=0.041 ) was the prognostic factors for LRC,T stage (χ2 =4.16,P=0.032),N stage ( χ2 =4.66,P =0.031 ) and interruption of radiotherapy ( χ2 =9.42,P =0.002 ) was the prognostic factors for DMFS. In multivariable analysis, interruption of radiotherapy and the regional neck lymph nodes response were the prognostic factors for LRC (χ2=6.19,P=0.013 and χ2=12.16,P=0.002;respectively),N stage and radiotherapy interruption were prognostic factors for DMFS.(χ2=15.06,P =0.000 and χ2 =21.62,P =0.000 ; respectively ).ConclusionsConventional radiotherapy alone for elder NPC can produce satisfactory results with acceptable treatment-relative toxicities. Our experience showed that the early N stage, without radiotherapy interruption and good regional lymph nodes response had a good longterm prognosis.

Objective:To explore the influence of childhood psychological abuse, neglect and alexithymia on the boredom proneness of college students. Methods:The boredom proneness scale for college students(BPS), child psychological abuse and neglect scale (CPANS) and the Toronto alexithymia scale (TAS-20) were used to investigate 1 557 college students, and SPSS 22.0 was used for descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis. Results:Childhood psychological abuse (26.540±8.985), neglect (32.665±10.651), recognition emotion in alexithymia dimension (19.359±4.835), description emotion dimension (14.173±3.001), extroverted thinking dimension in alexithymia (20.383±3.429) had positive correlation with the total score of boredom tendency (101.109±19.735) and the dimension of external stimulus (66.022±21.079)( r=0.160-0.559, all P<0.01). And there were negative correlations with the internal stimulus dimension (35.132±8.207)( r=-0.302--0.104, all P<0.01). The hierarchical regression analysis showed that after controlling the effects of gender and age, psychological abuse and neglect were the influencing factors of boredom proneness, internal stimulus and external stimulus, which explained 14.3%, 5.1% and 18.2% of the total variation (△ F=130.561, 41.968, 172.711, all P<0.01). Recognition of emotions, description of emotions and extroverted thinking in alexithymia were the influencing factors of boredom proneness, internal stimulus and external stimulus, which explained 17.5%, 9.9% and 25.5% of the total variation (△ F=134.274, 60.696, 234.383, all P<0.01). Conclusion:Childhood psychological abuse, neglect and alexithymia have significant effect on boredom proneness of college students, and mainly on external stimuli of boredom proneness. Among them, alexithymia has the greatest influence and the highest explanatory power.

Aim To obtain two-dimensional gel electrophoresis maps of the prefrontal cortex(PFC)proteins of normal and morphine-addicted rats for identifying the diferentially expressed proteins in the addicted rats. Methods Rat models of morphine addiction were established. The proteins in the PFC underwent two-dimensiona1 gel electrophoresis with immobiline pH gradient isoelectric focusing as the first and vertica1 SDS-PAGE as the second dimension.Analysis of 2-DE maps was used to determine differential expressions of proteins between the two groups by ImageMaster 2D Platinum v5.0,and four protein spots expressed differently were picked up for further identification by MALDI-TOF-MS.Results Matched and compared with those of control group,87 protein spots had been determined with differently expressive levels in morphine addiction group.By MALDI-TOF-MS,two protein spots of them had been identified as Snap25 Isoform ?-Snap 25 of Synaptosomal-associated protein 25 and Actb Actin, cytoplasmic 1.Conclusions There is obvious difference in expressive proteomes in PFC between normal and morphine-addicted rats. The functions of those identified proteins are involved in cell growth, apoptosis, differentiation, signal transduction, axon growth and cellular energy metabolism,so proteomics can serve as a new approach in the study of morphine dependence to discover new therapeutic targets.

AIM: To further investigate preventive effects of Shenfu(SF) injection, a Chinese herb drug, on acute renal ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI). METHODS: After SF or normal saline was administered intravenously one time a day for four days, the renal ichemia-reperfusion(I-R) model was established by occlusion of right renal artery and vein for an hour and reperfusion for three hours after left nephroectomy. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), content of malondialdehyde(MDA) in serum and renal tissue, and content of nitric oxide (NO),concentrations of Na + and Ca 2+ , numbers of WBC adhesion in renal tissue were detected and light and electronic microscopy were used for the detection of the renal histological changes. RESULTS: SF lowered significantly MDA content in either renal tissues or serum , concentration of Na +, the number of WBC adhesion, and scores of tubules in renal tissue after renal I-R, and the SOD activity in renal tissues and serum and NO content in renal tissue were obviously increased by SF.In addition, renal histomorphological damage in either light or electronic microscope were lightened by SF. But Ca 2+ concentration in renal tissue appeared to be only mildly affected. CONCLUSION: The mechanisms that SF protects renal structure and function against acute renal IRI may be involved in increasing SOD activity, scavenging directly oxygen free redicals(OFR),raising NO content, inhibiting WBC adhesion and recruiment, preventing Na + influx to form Na + overload.
