1.Development of brush ionization probe mass spectrometry for convenient on-site detection of traditional Chinese medicine

Objective: To develop a convenient, direct, and highly sensitive method for screening trace chemical additives in complex Chinese patent medicines, thereby addressing core technological bottlenecks in pharmaceutical analysis and quality control. Methods: A brush ionization probe device was independently designed and constructed, and an efficient detection method was established through systematic optimization of key parameters. Twenty-three Chinese patent medicine samples, representing 6 dosage forms (capsules, tablets, pills, granules, powders, and liquid preparations), were analyzed using 10 common chemical additives as target analytes. Results: All samples were successfully analyzed without complex pretreatment, and 5 chemical additives were detected in 7 Chinese patent medicines. The brush ionization probe device exhibited cost-effectiveness (~0.2 USD per probe), operational simplicity, rapid analysis (~10s per sample), high efficiency, and minimal reagent consumption (~10 μL per sample). Conclusion: This advancement is expected to provide an innovative scientific tool for improving the generality and convenience of on-site quality control, while promoting technological progress in disciplines such as pharmacology and traditional Chinese medicine.
2.Survey of post-discharge exercise behavior and analysis of factors influencing exercise intensity in patients undergoing lung surgery

Objective To investigate the post-discharge exercise behavior and factors influencing moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) in patients undergoing lung surgery. Methods A total of 2874 patients from the large prospective, observational perioperative lung symptom study cohort (CN-PRO-Lung 3) in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Sichuan Cancer Hospital between April 7, 2021, and January 31, 2024, were selected as the survey subjects. A survey was conducted using the Investigation of Exercise Behavior after Lung Surgery questionnaire and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) among patients who underwent lung surgery. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the factors influencing patients’ engagement in MVPA. Results A total of 702 patients were surveyed, including 252 males and 450 females, with an average age of (52.4±10.2) years. Patients with lung cancer accounted for 85.9%. Only 36.0% of the patients had regular exercise habits, while 42.3% did not engage in any physical activity. The three main barriers for postoperative exercise were physical discomfort (pain, coughing, shortness of breath, etc, 54.7%), lack of professional guidance (41.7%), and concerns about the surgical wound (28.9%). The proportions of patients engaging in vigorous, moderate, and low-intensity physical activity were 5.7%, 28.2%, and 66.1%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that patients with a personal annual income ≥50000 yuan (OR=1.52, 95%CI 1.01-2.29, P=0.044), high school education or above (OR=1.92, 95%CI 1.33-2.76, P<0.001), and lobectomy (OR=1.44, 95%CI 1.02-2.03, P=0.037) engaged in more MVPA. Conclusion Patients undergoing lung surgery have inadequate physical activity after discharge, particularly lacking in MVPA. Patients with higher income, higher educational levels, and lobectomy are more frequently engaged in MVPA. Measures such as symptom control, providing exercise guidance, and enhancing education on wound care may potentially improve the inadequate physical activity in lung surgery patients after discharge.
3.Analyzing the influencing factors of occupational health literacy among noise-exposed workers in the automotive manufacturing industry

Objective To analyze the current status and influencing factors of occupational health literacy (OHL) among noise-exposed workers in the automotive manufacturing industry. Methods A total of 1 188 front-line workers in noise-exposed positions in the automotive manufacturing industry were selected by judgment sampling method. The OHL status of the workers was investigated using the Occupational Health Literacy Questionnaire of National Key Population, and the influencing factors of OHL were analyzed. Results The overall OHL level was 30.13% (358/1 188). The result of binary logistic regression analysis showed that marital status, educational level, personal monthly income, household registration, enterprise scale and weekly working hours were influencing factors of OHL level (all P<0.05). Specifically, being married, having a high school education or higher, monthly personal income >5 000 yuan, being from a non-agricultural household, working in a medium-sized enterprise, and working more than >40-48 hours per week were protective factors for high OHL levels (all P<0.05). Conclusion There is considerable room for improvement in the OHL of noise-exposed workers in the automotive manufacturing industry. Focus should be placed on workers who are unmarried, widowed, or divorced, have educational levels below high school, earn less than 5 000 yuan per month, have agricultural household registrations, work in small or micro-sized enterprises, or work ≤40 hours per week, with targeted strategies to improve their overall OHL level.
4.Comparison and application of grading and classification methods for nuclear medicine workplaces

Objective To analyze the differences and connections between the current grading and classification methods for nuclear medicine workplaces, and to provide technical guidance for environmental impact assessments and technical reviews. Methods By comparing the objects, purposes, and computational approaches between the two methods, this article illustrates the usage of both methods through specific examples and analyzes the relationship between them. Results The two methods differed in objects, purposes, and computational approaches. The A, B, and C grading scheme was primarily used to establish the level of administrative supervision for an entire nuclear medicine workplace. In contrast, the I, II, and III classification system specifies the hardware facilities and engineering protection requirements of internal places or rooms. Conclusion These two methods are complementary and collectively provide a complete framework for the assessment of nuclear medicine workplaces.

Accurate characterization of the chemical composition of complex traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is an essential foundation for the modern scientific interpretation of TCM principles.Mass spectrometry is the most dominant technique in current research on the material basis of TCM,offering the highest sensitivity and the richest information provision.Establishing mass spectrometry databases represents the most effective approach to facilitating the structural analysis of TCM chemical components.This paper systematically searches and reviews literature published from January 2005 to January 2025 through online databases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure,PubMed,and Web of Science,using"mass spectrometry database"and"traditional Chinese medicine"as keywords.It reviews the current status of seven TCM chemical component mass spectrometry databases and seven natural product mass spectrometry databases.The key advancements of these mass spectrometry databases for natural products are summarized,detailing their characteristics,search methodologies,included information,and data sources.Additionally,challenges related to data quality,standardization,timely updates,database interaction,retrieval functionality,and data sharing and security are discussed in depth.Furthermore,the paper explores prospective development directions for TCM mass spectrometry databases,emphasizing the importance of open data sharing,technological innovation,and data security.Through this analysis,the paper aims to offer theoretical guidance and practical recommendations for the precise identification of TCM components,as well as for the construction and application of these databases.
6.Hub biomarkers and their clinical relevance in glycometabolic disorders: A comprehensive bioinformatics and machine learning approach.

BACKGROUND:
Gluconeogenesis is a critical metabolic pathway for maintaining glucose homeostasis, and its dysregulation can lead to glycometabolic disorders. This study aimed to identify hub biomarkers of these disorders to provide a theoretical foundation for enhancing diagnosis and treatment.
METHODS:
Gene expression profiles from liver tissues of three well-characterized gluconeogenesis mouse models were analyzed to identify commonly differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), machine learning techniques, and diagnostic tests on transcriptome data from publicly available datasets of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients were employed to assess the clinical relevance of these DEGs. Subsequently, we identified hub biomarkers associated with gluconeogenesis-related glycometabolic disorders, investigated potential correlations with immune cell types, and validated expression using quantitative polymerase chain reaction in the mouse models.
RESULTS:
Only a few common DEGs were observed in gluconeogenesis-related glycometabolic disorders across different contributing factors. However, these DEGs were consistently associated with cytokine regulation and oxidative stress (OS). Enrichment analysis highlighted significant alterations in terms related to cytokines and OS. Importantly, osteomodulin ( OMD ), apolipoprotein A4 ( APOA4 ), and insulin like growth factor binding protein 6 ( IGFBP6 ) were identified with potential clinical significance in T2DM patients. These genes demonstrated robust diagnostic performance in T2DM cohorts and were positively correlated with resting dendritic cells.
CONCLUSIONS
Gluconeogenesis-related glycometabolic disorders exhibit considerable heterogeneity, yet changes in cytokine regulation and OS are universally present. OMD , APOA4 , and IGFBP6 may serve as hub biomarkers for gluconeogenesis-related glycometabolic disorders.

7.Dual-energy CT combined with apparent diffusion coefficient value of brain metastases in predicting epidermal growth factor receptor mutation in lung adenocarcinoma

Objective To discuss the value of the multi-parameter imaging of dual-energy computed tomography(DECT)combined with apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)value of brain metastases in predicting lung adenocarcinoma with epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)gene mutation.Methods The DECT and MRI parameters of 90 patients with lung adenocarcinoma and brain metastases were collected.DECT parameters included normalized iodine concentrations in the arterial and venous phases(N1CA,NICV)and slope of the energy spectrum curves in the arterial and venous phases(kA,kv).The MRI parameters of brain metastases included ADC and relative ADC(rADC)of solid area,necrotic area,and peritumoral edema.Predictive model were constructed for EGFR gene mutation according to the parameters above.Results NICV,kv,ADC and rADC of solid area and peritumoral edema in the EGFR positive group were higher than those in the EGFR negative group,which had statistical significances(P<0.05).Model1 and model2 were established by combining DECT or MRI parameters,while model3 was established by combining DECT and MRI parameters,which had the best predictive efficiency for EGFR gene mutation,with an area under the curve(AUC)of 0.846.Conclusion The predictive model combining DECT parameters with ADC value of brain metastases can improve the prediction efficiency of EGFR gene mutation in advanced lung adenocarcinoma.
8.Clinical value of serum levels of MC-CP,CCL26 and DcR3 in the diagnosis of COPD complicated with OSAS

Objective To investigate the clinical value of serum mast cell carboxypeptidase(MC-CP),C-C motif chemokine 26(CCL26),and decoy receptor 3(DcR3)in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS)in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods Ninety COPD patients who visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University from January 2021 to January 2023 were collected.Among them,48 patients with simple COPD were included in the COPD group,and 42 patients with COPD combined with OSAS were included in the COPD-OSAS group.During the same period,48 healthy volunteers who underwent physical examination in that Hospital of Hebei North collected as the control group.Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was applied to detect serum level of MC-CP,CCL26,and DcR3.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was applied to analyze the clinical value of serum level of MC-CP,CCL26,and DcR3 in the diag-nosis of COPD complicated with OSAS.Multivariate Logistic regression was applied to analyze the influencing fac-tors of COPD complicated with OSAS.Results Compared with the control group,the smoking index,C-reactive protein(CRP)and white blood cell count(WBC)in the COPD and COPD-OSAS groups increased obviously in sequence,the ratio of forced expiratory volume in first second to forced vital capacity(FEV1/FVC)decreased obviously in sequence(P<0.05);Compared with the control group,the level of MC-CP,CCL26,and DcR3 in patients with COPD and COPD-OSAS increased significantly in sequence(P<0.05);The combination of serum MC-CP,CCL26 and DcR3 had a higher area under the curve(AUC)for the diagnosis of COPD complicated with OSAS compared to the individual diagnosis(Z=4.066,P<0.001;Z=2.391,P<0.05;Z=2.353,P<0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that smoking index,serum level of MC-CP,CCL26 and DcR3 were influencing factors for COPD complicated with OSAS(P<0.05).Conclusions The simultane-ously increased expression of MC-CP,CCL26 and DcR3 in the serum of COPD may support clinical diagnostic of COPD patients with OSAS.
9.Analysis of Self-assessed Health Changes and Influencing Factors among the Elderly People Based on CHARLS Database

Objective To understand the changes in self-rated health among middle-aged and elderly individuals in China and the influencing factors,providing a reference for improving health and promoting healthy aging.Methods Using data from the China Health and Aged Care Tracking Survey(CHARLS)from 2011 to 2020,this study analyzed 3595 middle-aged and elderly individuals(≥45 years old)who participated in all five rounds of the survey from 2011 to 2020.Univariate analysis and multinomial logistic regression were employed to analyze the influencing factors of self-rated health changes.Results Among the 3 595 middle-aged and elderly individuals,26.54%reported an increase in self-rated health,28.40%reported a decrease,and 45.06%reported no change.The multinomial logistic regression results indicated that compared to those with unchanged self-rated health,individuals whose self-rated health declined were more likely to have an increased number of Activities of Daily Living(ADLs),a higher number of chronic diseases,not engaging in at least 10 minutes of light physical activity per week,and a decline in life satisfaction levels.The odds ratios for these factors were 1.415(OR=1.415,95%CI:1.181~1.694),1.479(OR=1.479,95%CI:1.225~1.785),1.454(OR=1.486,95%CI:1.172~1.804),and 1.263(OR=1.237,95%CI:1.043~1.530),respectively.In contrast,individuals whose self-rated health improved,compared to those with unchanged health,were more likely to report an increase in life satisfaction levels,while an increase in ADLs and chronic diseases negatively impacted self-rated health improvement.The odds ratios for these factors were 1.698(OR=1.698,95%CI:1.425~2.023),0.769(OR=0.769,95%CI:0.646~0.915),and 0.689(OR=0.689,95%CI:0.549~0.865),respectively.Conclusion From 2011 to 2020,the self-rated health of middle-aged and elderly individuals in China has slightly declined,with a focus on improving physical health status,increasing physical activity,and addressing mental health as key areas for enhancing self-rated health among the elderly in China.
