1.Evaluation of the value of postoperative radiotherapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma based on the patterns of failure after right thoracotomy

The current recommendation for postoperative radiotherapy for esophageal cancer in China is mainly based on the data of incomplete two-field dissection of the left thoracotomy (category 2B evidence). However, the surgery of esophageal cancer is undergoing a period of transformation, which has gradually transitioned from left thoracotomy to right thoracotomy, and from open surgery to minimally invasive surgery. Compared with incomplete two-field dissection of left thoracotomy, complete two-field / cervical thoracic and abdominal three-field dissection of right thoracotomy could more thoroughly dissect the upper mediastinum and cervical lymph nodes. Hence, theoretically, it yields a lower recurrence rate of regional lymph nodes and prolongs the survival time. However, under the new technical conditions, whether the tumor recurrence pattern and recurrence rate after esophageal cancer surgery will change significantly compared with the past, whether postoperative radiotherapy still has the value of local control and survival benefits, and whether the indications of postoperative radiotherapy need to be adjusted accordingly have not been determined. Based on the above considerations, the changes in surgical methods for esophageal cancer at the current stage, the survival status of right thoracotomy and postoperative patterns of failure were summarized, aiming to evaluate the value of adjuvant radiotherapy under the condition of right thoracotomy.
2.Impact of the construction of smoke-free government on staff′s smoking cessation behavior

Objective:To assess the impact of the construction of smoke-free government on the smoking and cessation behaviors of staff members.Methods:This was a retrospective cohort study. The study used stratified random cluster sampling method to select 144 government institutions from 31 Provinces (Autonomous Regions and Municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The survey was carried out between October and November, 2023 by filling out questionnaires online among the insiders of the institutions and all the smoking staff members. The main indicators included the number of smokers before and after the construction of smoke-free governments and the measures for the construction of smoke-free governments. 144 questionnaires from insiders were recovered, all of which were included in the analysis; 1 776 questionnaires from smokers were recovered, including 1 716 valid questionnaires. The SAS 9.4 was used to perform χ 2 test and log-binomial regression analysis. Results:The percentage of smoking staff members decreased from 8.81% before the construction to 6.70% after the construction, and the difference was statistically significant ( χ 2=63.23, P<0.001). Comprehensive smoking ban in indoor public places ( OR=2.301, 95% CI: 1.433-3.694), punishment mechanism for smoking staff members ( OR=1.219, 95% CI: 1.124-1.322), smoking cessation competitions ( OR=1.865, 95% CI: 1.234-2.818) and reimbursement for or provision of smoking cessation medications ( OR=2.210, 95% CI: 1.002-4.874) were facilitators to motivate the smoking staff members to quit (all P<0.01). Numbers of smoking leaders ( OR=0.858, 95% CI: 0.807-0.913) and smoking years of smoking staff members ( OR=0.932, 95% CI: 0.918-0.946) negatively influenced the smoking staff members to quit (both P<0.001). Conclusions:The construction of smoke-free governments can effectively promote the smoking cessation behaviors of smoking staff members. In addition, comprehensive smoke-free policies, punishment mechanism for smoking staff members and activities such as smoking cessation competitions, and reimbursement for or provision of smoking cessation medications are important.
3.Overview of antibiotic resistance genes database.

The discovery of antibiotics is a big revolution in human history, and its clinical application has saved countless lives. However, with the widespread and abuse of antibiotics, many pathogens have developed resistance, and even "Super Bacteria" resistance to multiple drugs have evolved. In the arms race between humans and pathogens, humans are about to face a situation where no medicine is available. Research on microbial antibiotic resistance genes, resistance mechanisms, and the spread of resistance has attracted the attention of many scientific researchers, and various antibiotic resistance gene databases and analysis tools have emerged. In this review, we collect the current databases that focus on antibiotics resistance genes, and discuss these databases in terms of database types, data characteristics, antibiotics resistance gene prediction models and the types of analyzable sequences. In addition, a few gene databases of anti-metal ions and anti-biocides are also involved. It is believed that this summary will provide a reference for how to select and use antibiotic resistance gene databases.
