Objective To explore the outcome and diagnostic methods of umbilical cord winds of the perinatal. Methods Retrospective analysis of 2350 cases of umbilical cord winds in our hospital was conducted. We selected 2400 cases as control. We calculated both the incidence rate of cesarean section, fetal distress and neonatal hypoxic - ischemic encephalopathy. Results Umbilical cord winds accounted for 20.1 percent of the total number of deliveries in the same period. The incidence rate of fetal distress and cesarean section was significantly high. Bsound ultra was 98.9% diagnosis. The electronic fetal care was 99.7% in diagnosis. Color Doppler ultrasound was 100% in diagnosis. Conclusion Umbilical cord winds is a common complication of pregnancy, and decision is also an important factor for delivery mode. Umbilical cord winds will increase obviously in the incidence of fetal distress and perinatal morbidity. The main method for prenatal diagnosis is the color Doppler ultrasound examination, such as B - and E - fetal care. Color Doppler ultrasound technique is the best way for non - invasive is observation of intrauterine blood circulation changes. In helpful for the judge of the progress and outcome of pregnancy, fetal growth and development of the situation.

Objective Analyzing polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM) cases that had respiratory failure at the initial presentation in order to get a better understanding of their clinical features. Methods Eight PM or DM patients with respiratory failure as their first symptom were included in this study. Their clinical manifestation, laboratory and radiology changes and prognosis were analyzed retrospectively. Results In 8 patients, respiratory failure occurred before skin and muscle symptom for about two weeks to 3 month. Pulmonary interstitial disease was revealed by chest X ray and CT. Pulse methylprednisonlone was used combined with anti-infection and ameliorating respiratory function treatment. Five of the patients became deteriorated and 3 died of respiratory failure despite of the treatment, while the other 3 improved but one died of respiratory failure 6 months later. Conclusion About 5%~30% patients with PM and DM have lung damage. Pulmonary changes may occur before skin and muscle symptoms in 4% patients. Such patients have abrupt onsets and their disease progresses quickly with high mortality despite of corticosteroids therapy.

BACKGROUND:There are less studies on static magnetic field, and its biological effects are stil unclear. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the static magnetic field effect on the secretion of nerve growth factor from Schwann cel s. METHODS:Schwann cel s were randomly assigned into three groups:0.05 mT sciatic magnetic field group, 0.1 mT sciatic magnetic field group and control group. At 2 days of inoculation, the cel s were exposed to the sciatic magnetic field, 12 hours per day. Cel s in the control group were not exposed to the sciatic magnetic field. After 6 days of exposure, RT-PCR method was used to detect nerve growth factor mRNA expression in Schwann cel s, and ELISA was adopted to detect the level of nerve growth factor secreted from Schwann cel s. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The mRNA expression and secreted level of nerve growth factors in the culture supernatant were significantly higher in the two sciatic magnetic field groups than the control group (P<0.05), especial y in the 0.1 mT group. However, there was no difference between the 0.05 mT and 0.1 mT groups (P>0.05). These findings indicate that the static magnetic field with certain intensity can promote the secretion of nerve growth factors from Schwann cel s.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1987;0(03):-
Transgenic animals are those in which recombinant DNA technology is used to remove a gene or a specific part of DNA with exogenous DNA, which is hereditable and can be expressed stably. Transgenic rodent technology, first demonstrated by Gordon in 1980,opened the door to the next step in biotechnology and gene regulation, which has been used to reproduce or mimic a part of a human disease in a complex cellular environment by creating in vivo models with germ line transmission of the introduced genetic regulatory elements. Animal models for drug discovery are developing increasingly, which is promoting the research and development new drugs greatly. The use and development of transgenic animals in pharmacological research is reviewed in this article.
