Objective To detect the expression of BP1 gene in thyroid cancer and its relationship with clinicopathological features of thyroid cancer. Methods BP1 gene expression in 60 cases of thyroid cancer tissues and 20 cases of normal thyroid tissues were detected by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Results The positive expression rate of BP1 mRNA was 78.3 % (47/60) in the 60 cases of thyroid cancer tissues while it was 20% (4/20) in the 20 cases of normal thyroid tissues detected by in situ hybridization. The difference had statistical significance (P < 0.05).Of the 3 pathological types of thyroid cancer, the positive expression rate of papillary carcinoma was 81.6% (40/49),follicular carcinoma 85.7% (6/7),and medullary carcinoma 25.0% (1/4).The expression of BP1 mRNA had statistical difference between medullary carcinoma and other pathological types like papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma (P < 0.05).The positive expression rate of BP1 protein was 93.3% (56/60)in the 60 cases of thyroid cancer tissues while it was 10.0% (2/20) in the 20 cases of normal thyroid tissues detected by immunohistochemistry. The difference had statistical significance(P <0.05).Conclusion BP1 gene expression is up-regulated in human thyroid cancer and it is related to tumor stage and pathological type but not related to patients' age,sex or lymph node metastasis.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the surgical treatment of mass at root of the neck.
METHOD:
Twenty-six cases of mass in root of the neck, 10 benign tumor and 16 malignancy. All the patients were received surgical treatment with "T" or "L" shaped incision, and cleidotomy or remove partial of presternum and articulationes sternoclavicularis when necessary.
RESULT:
All the benign tumor were removed completely, 1 case with chylous leakage and 1 case with recurrent laryngeal nerve injury after operation. Twelve cases of malignant tumor removed completely and 4 cases underwent partially resection. Subclavian vein rupture occur in 2 cases during operation, and chylous leakage in 1 case, brachial plexus or phrenic nerve injury in 2 cases individually, 1 case with mediastinal emphysema and 2 cases with hematoma. Follow up for 1 to more than 5 years. No patient died and relapsed in benign group. Six malignant cases survive for 5 years after operation,4 cases survive for more than 3 years, and 2 patients alive for 2 years. And the others were died within 1 year in malignancy group.
CONCLUSION
Surgery for mass in root of the neck is feasible and with good effect for benign mass, and also is a way to treat the malignancy in this region.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2011;25(21):966-969
OBJECTIVE:
To examine the expression and clinical significance of the Stat3 and Cyclin D1 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC).
METHOD:
The expression of Stat3 and Cyclin D1 in LSCC tissue were detected by the RT-PCR and Western blot method respectively, and then the relationship between Stat3 and Cyclin D1 protein expression level and relevant clinical factors of LSCC was explored.
RESULT:
Compared to the normal larynx mucosa group, the expression level of Stat3 and Cyclin D1 was significantly higher in LSCC (P < 0.01). The high expression level of Stat3 and Cyclin D1 protein in LSCC was correlated with the clinical stage, tumor differentiation and lymph node metastases (P < 0.01). The expression level of Stat3 was positively correlated with that of Cyclin D1, The correlation coefficient(r) was 0.564 (P < 0.01) for the protein expression and 0.552 (P < 0.01) for the mRNA expression.
CONCLUSION
Stat3 signaling pathway may play an important role in the tumorigenesis and progression of LSCC. The expression level of Stat3 and its target gene Cyclin D1 can reflect the malignancy degree of LSCC.
