Objective To compare the quality of platelet concentrates (PCs) between two different flow speeds of leukodepletion through filtration processes. Methods MCS+version C5 and disposables were used, each of which linked with a leuko-depleted filter of LRF series products,The PCs was gone respectively through a continuous slow filtration process at flow rate about 5 to 8 ml per minute in collection process (L-LDP) and through a fast filtration process at flow rate about 25 ml per minute after collection (F-LDP). The anticipation for PCs yield was ≥2.5?10 11 cells/bag and for residual white blood cells (WBC) was≤5.0?105 cells/bag.Results The PCs products obtained by L-LDP and F-LDP correspondingly showed the mean platelet yield (2.70?0.29)?10 11 cells/bag and (2.56?0.38)?10 11 cells/bag (t=1.25) the residual WBC (7.73?0.01)?104 cells/bag and (2.02?3.05)?105 cells/bag (log t=1.48), the success collection rate 78.6% and 70.6%, as well as the collection efficiency 57.1?6.8% and 55.5?8.7% (t=0.64) against precount. As both anticipated criteria of platelet yield and residual WBC level to be met synchronously, the PCs for L-LDP accounted for 78.6% (22/28) and the one for F-LDP hand only access to 64.7% (11/17).Conclusion The satisfactory results for PCs were obtained through both different leukodepleted filtration processes. As all individualiged indexes observed of L-LDP excelled that of F-LDP, the PCs filtrated at low speed had a better quality than the one at fast speed.

Objective To investigate the clinical use of blood in Shenzhen,in order to make the blood transfusion more appropriate and safer. Methods The medical records of 2 597 blood transfusion receipts from 3 hospitals in 2006 were reviewed. The use of blood components in each department, unreasonable prescriptions of very small amount of blood transfusion, and the combined transfusion of RBC and plasma were analyzed. Results The proportion of reasonable transfusion of RBC,plasma, platelet concentrates and cryoprecipitate were 66.44%,24.65%,97.97% and 61.29%,respectively.These proportion were 91.54%,51.85%,98.86%,and 100%,respectively,in internal medicine department, and 50.22%,19.86%,89.58%,42.86%,respectively,in surgery department.Unreasonable prescription of low-volume blood transfusion and the combined transfusion of RBC and plasma were 47.05% and 51.17%.Conclusion Except for plasma transfusion, the internal medicine departments did fairly well in blood component transfusion.Since the unreasonable transfusion still exists, the clinical doctors should be further trained in the appropriate use of blood, and get rid of the old practice of whole-blood-dependence.

Chinese Medical Ethics 1994;0(05):-
As a special service, blood donation has special requirements for the ethics of blood donors, which is different from the professional ethics of ordinary employees or the social ethics of the general public. The present ethical status of blood donors calls for a new way of effectively cultivating the ethics of blood donors.

Objective To design experimental conditions of Riboflavin combining with ultraviolet light illumination for pathogen inactivation and to verify its effect. Methods The effects of multi-factors,such as Riboflavin concentrates, dosage of ultraviolet irradiation,pH value and medium, were observed on E.coli inactivation by photochemical method when it was used as an indicating germ in phosphorus solution(PBS)and taken count by smearing Mac-lonkey agar plates for colony-forming units. Results The reduction of E.coli reached 3.87 logs when the system was treated with 12.5 umol/L riboflavin and 3.0mJ/ml of ultraviolet light at 254nm in PBS medium. Conclusion E.coli in PBS medium was sensitized to low concentrates of Riboflavin and low dosage of ultraviolet irradiation.
