AIM:To report a case of a chronic glaucoma patient whose reduced eyesight is related to ocular ischemia.METHODS:A case report.RESULTS:A 71 year-old man presented with a decreased left eye vision for over 3 years.During the last two months,he had deteriorated blurred vision when he woke up in the morning. The loss of his lower-half peripheral vision was especially serious. The patient suffered from an episode of transient amaurosis fugax three months ago.According to transcranial Doppler ultrasound scan and cerebral computerized tomographic angiography, the patient was found that he had severe stenosis of the bilateral intracranial internal carotid artery and decreased blood flow velocity within the left ophthalmic artery. His symptoms alleviated after an internal carotid artery endarterectomy.CONCLUSION:When vision loss glaucoma cases are presented, more attention should be paid to the presence of ischemia within the ophthalmic artery except glaucoma.

Objective To observe the effect of continued nursing on the long-term nasal feeding to elderly patients after discharge. Methods Toally 60 elderly discharged patients between January 2014 to December 2014 were evenly divided into observation and control groups with radom digit table the control group received routine nursing before discharge and after it and the observation group received continued nursing. The two groups were compared in terms of nasal feeding-induced complication, nursing satisfaction, care capability of patients' caregivers.Result The complication rate in the observation group was significantly lower, the nursing satisfaction was significantly higher and the care capability of caregivers were significantly better as compared to those of the control group (P <0.05).Conclusion Continued nursing can improve nursing satisfaction, train the care capacity of caregivers, reduce the complications for the old patients who need long-term nasal feeding after discharge.

0.05). CONCLUSION:HDL of human plasma could attenuate or inhibit the decrease in BP induced by endotoxin and prolong the survival time. These results indicated that HDL has therapeutic and protective effect on rat with endotoxemia.Inhibition of TNF release might be one of mechanisms.

Objective To identify the possible alterations of brain function in prefrontal lobes and hippocampus in the first-episode patients with positive symptoms of schizophrenia using magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Methods 20 patients were selected to perform MRI and HMRS examination. Proton multi-voxel spectroscopy imaging(1 H-MRSI)was obtained from two sides of the hippocampus and frontal lobes regions. The metabolites included N-acetylaspartate (NAA), and choline-containing compounds (Cho), creatine and phosphocreatine (Cr).The ratios of NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr and NAA/Cho were determined. Results (1)The Cho/Cr ratio was significantly reduced in left frontal white matter of patients compared to right(1. 178 ± 0.210 vs 1.437 ± 0. 337). (2) There was no statistically significant difference in metabolite levels in between left anterior cingulate gray matter and right (N AA. Cr: 1. 339 ± 0.452 vs 1. 748 ± 0. 147;Cho/Cr: 1. 406 ± 0. 394 vs 1. 761 ± 0.362) (P < 0.05). (3) The NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr were significantly reduced in left hippocampus of patients compared to right. Conclusion The results implicate that the metabolic abnormalities might exist in the left hippocampus and frontal lobe of schizophrenic patients with positive symptoms.

To study the level of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in serum and the expression of MIF mRNA in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue, and to investigate its impact on insulin resistance and islet β-cell dysfunction in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).120 pregnancy women from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University Medical College and Taian Central Hospital were enrolled, including 60 GDM women and 60 women with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).The serum MIF in GDM group was higher than that of NGT group [(3.58±1.02 vs 1.23±0.62) ng/ml,P<0.01].Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that body mass index was an independent affective factor of the serum levels of MIF (r2 =0.516).The serum levels of MIF and the expressions of MIF mRNA in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue were significantly higher in GDM group than NGT group.MIF may contribute to insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction in GDM.Body mass index seems to be an independent factor in affecting the serum levels of MIF.

Objective To measure the prevalence and analyzed associated factors of medical adhesive-related skin injuries (MARSI) at PICC insertion site in patients with hematologic malignancies. Methods A cross- sectional observational study lasting two weeks was carried out in Department of Hematology. Skin assessment data and photographs of skin were collected during PICC maintenances by the same investigator. The related information was got out from the medical record. The observed skin injuries were classified by the dermatologist and PICC specialized nurse together. MARSI prevalence was calculated. The associated factors were analyzed statistically. Results All of the 153 patients with hematologic malignancies were included. The prevalence of total MARSI at PICC insertion site was 33.99%(52/153), including mechanical skin injury (22.87%,35/153), contact dermatitis (CD) ( 9.80%,15/153), moisture-associated skin damage (0.65%,1/153), folliculitis(0.65%,1/153), respectively. Multivariate analysis identified two independent risk factors for mechanical skin injury including age≥50 years old, P=0.016, odds ratio (OR)=5.919, 95%CI 1.389-25.220 and non-specialist nurses in PICC maintenance, P=0.013, OR=8.333,95%CI 1.566-44.360. History of skin allergies (P=0.000,OR=12.333,95%CI 3.669-41.454) and arsenic trioxide infusion through PICC(P=0.003,OR=4.565,95%CI 1.661-12.547) were associated with CD. Conclusions MARSI at PICC insertion site is a prevalent event in the patients with hematologic malignancies. Epidemiological data and independent risk factors are presented in our study, which provide a basis for future study in this area.
