At the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Journal of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, we reviewed the development and innovation of the Journal during the 30 years, discussed the special feature of the Journal and the publishing thoughts, and put forward the development plan. By abiding to showing the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, keeping pace with the academic advancement, and following the editing standard strictly, the Journal has obtained the social approval and academic position for its growth from a small-scale and unknown periodical to a bimonthly, normalized and high-quality journal.

AIM: To study the changes of iNOS mRNA ,protein and the production of nitric oxide(NO) as well as whether puerarin regulates the expression of iNOS mRNA during the formation of diabetic rat cataract. METHODS: One hundred and eight Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups, thirty-six rats were taken as control group, seventy two rats were injected peritoneally with streptozotocin(STZ,45mg/kg) to establish animal model of diabetic cataract, and then divided into STZ (36) and puerarin(36) treatment groups. Morphologic changes of lens were observered with slit lamp and light microscope; Samples were taken at 20th, 40th, 60th day and the changes in iNOS mRNA and protein expression of lens epithelium cells(LEC)as well as production of NO and NOS activity were determined with reverse transcription -polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR), western blot, and biochemical method ,respectively. RESULTS: Morphologyic changes of LEC, up-regulation of iNOS mRNA and iNOS protein as well as increase in NO production and NOS activity in the LEC were observered during the formation of rat diabetic cataract. Compared with TZ group, puerarin treatment group showed distinctly down-regulation of iNOS mRNA and iNOS protein and decrease in NO production and NOS activity as well as attenuation of morphologic changes. CONCLUSIONS: There are morphologic changes of LEC and up-regulation of iNOS mRNA and as well as increase in NO production and NOS activity in the LEC during the formation of diabetic rat cataract , and treatment with puerarin can reverse the above changes.
8.Application of Nonlinear Dynamics in Analysis of Electroencephalograph
Progress in Modern Biomedicine 2006;6(9):24-26
Nonlinear dynamics has been used to analyse Electroencephalograph (EEG) time series,in recent years, which has opened new possibilities to the dynamic knowledge of the brain. In this paper, we review researches on the treatment of EEG (sleep stage, anesthesia, process of cognition, schizophrenia, dementia and epilepsy) using nonlinear dynamics methods, and try to better understand brain neurodynamics.

Objective Use real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR)to determine HBV DNA,then calculate the linear range and the minimum detection limit, which are the main performance indicators in the laboratory verification. Methods According to the related documents,by serial dilution of high concentration samples, samples of serial concentrations were obtained which were out of the linear range mentioned in the instructions, then verifid the new linear range.By serial dilution of low concentration, samples were obtained, the concentrations of which were lower than the minimum detection limit of provide by the manufacturer, then the new minimum detection limit was verified. Results The linear range of HBV DNA detection was 8.58× 102 -8.41×107 IU/mL,and the minimum detection limit of HBV DNA detection was 4.07 ×102 IU/mL.Conclusion The linear range and the minimum detection limit of Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR assessed reaches the expected requirement, and the method and validation scheme are simple and feasible.
