OBJECTIVE To investigate the risk factors for nosocomial pneumonia(NP) caused by imipenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii(IRAB) and its antimicrobial susceptibility in vitro. METHODS The data of 34 cases of IRAB-NP were analyzed and 68 cases of NP caused by imipenem-susceptible A.baumannii(ISAB) were randomized as control.Antimicrobial susceptibility(MIC) was determined with the method of agar dilution. RESULTS The two independent factors associated with the development of IRAB-NP: previous fluoroquinolone(OR=5.738) and imipenem/meropenem(OR=7.129) use.The drug sensitivity test in vitro showed that these strains were multiresistant to commonly used antibiotics, and only ampicillin/sulbactam and cefoperazone/sulbactam whose resistance rate was less than 30%. CONCLUSIONS Previous imipenem/meropenem and fluoroquinolone use is independent risk factors for IRAB-NP.These strains are high drug resistant.

0.05).The most common toxicity was neutropenia and nausea. There are no serious nausea, damage of liver and kidney functions and grade 4 neutropenia in the study group. The side-ef- fects,in the study group, such as hemorrhage, infection, medicine outleakage, catheter obstruct, catheter slough,gastric-intestinal perforation, and fever did not appear. Conclusion Although this study was conduct- ed in a small number of patients and short time, compared with the control group, the study group had a ben- eficial effect in peritoneal recurrence after curative gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer and had less side effect and good toleration. It played a role in enhancing 1-year overall survival rate. The combination of intra- venous and intraperitoneal chemotherapy after gastrectomy may have better treatment effect on gastric cancer than that of intravenous chemotherapy alone. The randomized controlled trials are required.

Objective To study the expression of KAI1 and CD40 in gastric cancer and their correlation with clinicopathologic features and prognosis. Methods The expression of KAI1 and CD40 of 64 gastric cancer tissues was examinated by S-P immunohistochemieal methods. Results The overall positive rate of KAI1 was 22% in gastric cancer.Expression of KAI1 was positively related to the degree of tumor differentiation,it was negatively related to invasion depth and lymph node metastasis and the tumor clinical stage. The 5-year survival rate of cases with positive expression of KAII was significantly higher than that of cases with negative expression(X~2=42.426,P=0.000).The expression rate of CD40 in gastric cancer tissue was 34%.The expression of CD40 was significantly correlated with metastasis and clinical stage of gastric cancer. The 5-year survival rate of cases with positive expression of CD40 was significantly lower than that of cases with negative expression(X~2=4.841,P=0.028).There is no relationship between KAI1 and CD40 expression in gastric cancer. Conclusion KAI1 is associated with gastric cancer differentiation, invasion and metastasis.CD40 status helps to evaluate metastasis, and predict prognosis of gastric cancer.
8.Peripheral facial paralysis treated with the adapted acupuncture technique of heat-producing needling.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2011;31(9):803-805
OBJECTIVETo improve the manipulations of traditional heat-producing needling, and observe its therapeutic effect on peripheral facial paralysis.
METHODSAcupuncture was adopted for all the 50 patients with peripheral facial paralysis. Acupoints such as Dicang (ST 4), Jiache (ST 6), Qianzheng (Extra), Fengchi(GB 20), Yifeng (TE 17) of the affected side, Hegu (LI 4) of the healthy side, Shousanli (LI 10), Zusanli (ST 36) and Taichong (LR 3) of both sides were adopted. And an adapted heat-producing needling was applied. With the left thumb of the doctor press at the point, the needle was rotated slowly with the right thumb moving forward and index finger moving backward to maintain the needling sensation. Then, heavier pressure was given with the left thumb, and a 9-time lifting and thrusting manipulation with small amplitude, low and even frequency by the right thumb and the index finger. Heavy pressure was maintained by the left thumb, and the needle was inserted by the right thumb and index finger to promote the needling sensation. Thus, the tip of the needle was always kept at the level where the needling sensation appeared. Therefore, a heat sensation can be felt by the patient under the needle or at the distal area. The treatment should be given once a day. And therapeutic effect was observed after 15 times continue treatment.
RESULTSAll the 50 patients were cured without any sequela.
CONCLUSIONAdapted heat-producing needling can promote the recovery of the function of facial muscle, and the effect of treatment of peripheral facial paralysis with the manipulation is confirmed.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2005;3(2):103-7
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the immuno-modulatory effect of short course administration of somatostatin (stilamin) continuously at early stage in patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). METHODS: Thirty-nine patients with SAP (22 men, 17 women; the middle age was 49 years)were randomly allocated into control group (20 patients treated with non-surgical integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine) and treatment group (19 patients treated with somatostatin administered intravenously at a dosage of 250 mug/h for consecutive 72 hours as well as the treatment for the control group). Laboratory parameters, including the expressions of CD(3), CD(4) and CD(8) in lymphocytes (tested by flow cytometry) and C reactive protein (CRP), and indexes of therapeutic effect, including the occurrence of organic dysfunction, local complication and mortality between the two groups were compared. Another group of 30 healthy volunteers (19 men, 11 women; the middle age was 47 years) were recruited for testing the normal levels of CD(3), CD(4) and CD(8). RESULTS: (1) The levels of CD(3), CD(4) and CD(4)/CD(8) in lymphocytes before treatment in both groups were significantly lower than those in the healthy subjects (P<0.05), but there were no statistical differences between the two groups. At the 4th day, CD(3), CD(4) and CD(4)/CD(8) increased significantly in the treatment group (P<0.05) while no changes in the control group; the levels of CD(4) and CD(4)/CD(8) in the treatment group were also higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). (2) The CRP levels of the 2 groups showed no statistical difference before and 4 days after the treatment, but the CRP level in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group at the 7th day (P<0.05). WBC count, serum levels of amylase, lipase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, as well as the score of APACHE II in the treatment group recovered more quickly than those in the control group (P<0.05). (3) The occurrences of organic dysfunctions, local complications and mortality in both groups were not statistically different. CONCLUSION: The short course administration of somatostatin continuously at early stage can reduce the inflammatory response, up-regulate the cell immune function and improve the conditions of the patients with SAP, but its effect on mortality and morbidity needs further study.
