For understanding the effect of MDG-1, a water-soluble β-D-fructan polysaccharide from Ophiopogon japonicas, on intestinal microecological balance, especially on the changes of lactobacillus, sixty 8-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were given a high-fat diet for six weeks and were also gavaged with saline once a day simultaneously. Then the mice which is below 30 grams or dropped more than 10% through lavage were eliminated and the rest were randomly divided into four groups: diet-induced obese (DIO) model group (n = 12, gavaged with saline), low-dose MDG-1 group (n = 12, gavaged with MDG-1, 75 mg · kg(-1)) , medial-dose MDG- 1 group (n = 12, gavaged with 150 mg · kg(-1)), and high-dose MDG-1 group (n = 12, gavaged with 300 mg · kg(-1)) according to the weight and blood glucose; the model group and MDG-1 group were placed on a high-fat diet while the normal control group (n = 12, gavaged with saline) were kept on a low-fat diet through the experiment. After 12-weeks of treatment, feces samples were collected and cultured for intestinal microecological balance analysis. Then the intestinal probiotics were cultured through traditional methods combined with modified gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) method. The changes of lactobacillus in each treatment group were also detected by a statistical analysis of the total number of the intestinal flora. We have established the phylogenetic tree by 16S rDNA sequencing and use some molecular identification methods such as PCR-DGGE to analyse the changes of the dominant bacteria floras, and also get the pure culture. In conclusion, different concentrations of MDG-1 can increase the number of the intestinal probiotics, especially Taiwan lactobacillus and Lactobacillus murinus, and improve their diversity and promote proliferation in a dose-dependent way.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 2001;0(01):-
Objective:To investigate the effects of strain force on t he expression of osteoclast differentiation factor(ODF) and osteoclasto-genesis i nhibitory factor(OCIF) in human periodontal ligament cells (HPDLCs). Met hods: HPDLCs were subjected to cyclic strain force for 0, 6, 12 and 24 h ours, mRNA expression of ODF and OCIF were determined by RT-PCR. Result s:After treatment of the cells for 0,6,12 and 24 hours the ODF/?-actio n values were 0.7280?0.0261,0.6831?0.0411,0.5801?0.2230 and 0.4572?0.0373( P0.05) respectively. Conclusion:Strain force may decrease the expression of ODF and increase the expression of OCIF.

BACKGROUND: Rapid expansion of the dental arch is an effective way to rapidly expanse the jaw. Compared with rapid expansion, the slow expansion has higher stability and less recurrence, but the reports on the long-term stability of quad helix expansion are rare. OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively analyze the clinical effect of quad helix expansion in orthodontics. METHODS: Twenty-two subjects with dental arch stenosis in mixed dentition and early permanent dentition who experienced an expansion of at least 3 mm with quad helix appliance were selected for this study. Plaster dental casts and posteroanterior radiographs were evaluated at the beginning of the treatment (T1), at the completion of phase I quad helix expansion or ful treatment (T2), and approximately 2 years fol owing the completion of treatment (T3). The distance between two first molars was measured on the model. J point was drawn on the posteroanterior radiograph in order to measure the distance between the bilateral base bones and the molar inclination, as wel as to evaluate the corrective and orthopedic effects of dental arch expansion. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Compared with that before expansion, the first permanent molar inclination and the distance between base bones on two sides were significant increased after quad helix expansion; there were no significant differences in the distance between two first permanent molars, first permanent molar inclination and the distance between bilateral base bones on two sides when compared after quad helix expansion and after 2-year fol ow-up (P > 0.05). The results indicate that the long-term effect of quad helix expansion is stable with orthopedic effect.

With the development of mass spectrometer, protein and peptide separation technology, and data analysis tools, the study on protein expression profiling of various tissues, organs or cells has been developed rapidly. The most basic purpose of proteomics is qualitative and quantitative identification of the whole protein in a cell or tissue. Therefore, how to make full use of mass spectrometry data has an important significance in proteome.Recently years, proteomics has begun to be applied in allograft rejection and discovery of rejection related biomarkers in organ transplantation.Through the extensive application of the technology in organ transplantation, graft rejection can be earlier detection and treatment. Therefore, the proteomics research have potential application prospects in the diagnosis of the organ transplant rejection.

Objective To observe the effect of Lovastatin on carotid atherosclerotic plaque(CAP),levels of blood lipid and serum C-reactive protein(CRP) in patients with cerebral infarction(CI).Methods 120 CI patients with CAP were randomly divided into Lovastatin group and control group. At the basic of low fit diet for the two groups,Lovastatin was taken with 20 mg once a day for 6 months in Lovastatin group. Then, the changes of paque score, the levels of CRP and blood-lipid were observed 8 weeks and 6 months after treatment. Results (1)6 months later, the plaque score(4.20?3.77) in the Lovastatin group was significantly lower than pro-treatment(4.77?2.31)and the control group(6.86?1.89) (all P

Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery 2001;0(05):-
Objective To investigate the effectiveness of Ender nail fixation in the management of pediatric femoral shaft fractures. Methods A total of 24 children with femoral shaft fracture underwent small incision Ender nail internal fixation followed by 4 weeks of monolateral hip spica-cast immobilization. Results Follow-up observations for 6~24 months revealed no non-union or delayed union. The affected limbs were found within 1 cm shorter or longer than the contralateral in 4 cases. None became lame, and the functions of lower limbs were completely recovered. Conclusions So far as indications and contra-indications of Ender nail fixation are strictly followed, this treatment for femoral shaft fractures in children of age 5~10 years gives characters of small incision, anatomic reduction, unimpaired periosteum, short hospital stay, and quick functional recovery.
