OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the status quo and tendency of the use of Chinese material medical injection(CMMI) in Nanjing area.METHOD:Chinese material medica injection used in 22 hospital of Nanjing from 2004 to 2006 was analyzed statistically in terms of variety,consumption sum,defined daily dose(DDDs) etc. RESULTS: The consumption sum of CMMI increased year by year,with annual incremental rates of 19.80% and 11.82% respectively.The cardio-cerebral vascular CMMI dominated the first place in terms of consumption sum and DDDs over the 3 years.Lentinan,Shengmai,Shenmai,Puerarin took the lead in consumption sum of single variety.The variety and specification and the number of manufacturers of CMMI increased year by year.CONCLUSION:CMMI plays a key role in clinical treatment,its consumption sum and consumption quantity kept increasing rapidly.

Aim To establish the dementia mice models induced by intracerebroventricular infusion of ?-Amyloid peptide and related measuring index. Methods The mice models were made by intracerebroventricular infusion of long fragment of soluble?-Amyloid peptide with micropump, intracerebroventricular injection of long soluble?-Amyloid peptide fragment and short insoluble ?-Amyloid peptide fragment,and intracerebroventricular injection of ?-Amyloid peptide combining with transforming growth factor. Results Compared with normal control, the learning and memory ability was decreased in all above model mice. the ChAT activity in both hippocampus and cortex of model mice decreased, the hippocampal neuron were depleted and the content of apoptosis associated protein Bal-2?BAX and p53 were increased. Conclusions All above mice models could be choose as the dementia models which were simulating the pathological charactoristics of the Alzheimer's disease.

More and more linear servo systems have been used in servo applications. Direct drive technology can greatly increase the bandwidth and the tracking accuracy. A position servo-system based on linear voice-coil motor was designed for one linear oscillation movement application. Besides the conventional position, speed and current control loops, the speed and acceleration feed-forward control of command position signal were also used. The experimental test proved the correctness of the design, and the system can track the given periodic sinnsoid position command signal of 15Hz with high accuracy. The linear voice-coil motor is very suitable for short stroke position tracking application with high dynamic response.

Objective To observe the effect of 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxy stilbene-2-?-D-glycoside (TSG)on learning and memory and free radicals metabolism in mice with dementia induced by ?-amyloid(A?).Methods The mice models were established by injection of A?1-40 into the right lateral ventricle,and the treatment group was administered with TSG for 8 weeks by gastrogavage.Morris water maze and step-through test were performed in all the mice and then the mice were killed and radioimmunoassay was used to detect the content of interleukin-6(IL-6).Results The learning and memory in model mice were worse and the cortical IL-6 content increased compared to the normal control mice.TSG improved the learning and memory of A?-induced model mice and reduced cortical IL-6 content.Conclusion TSG could improve the learning and memory of dementia mice and decrease cortical IL-6 content,indicating a promising prospect in the treatment of dementia disease such as Alzheimer's disease.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MS) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).MethodsTotally 101 male patients with MS and 117 male patients without MS were enrolled from September 2008 to January 2010 in the department of geriatrics of Peking University People's Hospital.The MS diagnosis was made according to the criteria by Chinese Diabetes Society (2004).Blood pressure,body weight,body height,body mass index (BMI) were measured and calculated.Biochemical analyses including serum fasting blood glucose (FBG),total cholesterol ( TC),triglycerides (TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) were performed.Total prostate volume (PV) were measured by ultrasound.ResultsPV in patients with MS[(39.7±21.1)m1] was significantly larger than in patients without MS[(30.7±9.3)ml] (P＜ 0.05).There was no difference in PSA level between groups (P＞ 0.05).PV were positively correlated with BMI(r=0.27,P=0.019),hypertension duration(r=0.37,P=0.01),PSA(r=0.51,P=0.001),FBG(r=0.24,P=0.013) and systolic blood pressure(SBP)(r=0.20,P=0.047),but negatively correlated with HDL-C ( r = - 0.24,P = 0.013 ).Conclusions BMI,hypertension duration,PSA,FBG,SBP,and lower HDL-C may play roles in the pathogenesis of prostatic hvperplasia.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is characterized by orthostatic intolerance, a presentation of autonomic dysfunction which is frequently observed in the patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Nevertheless, to date, there have been a few studies focusing on POTS in MS patients and the underlying pathomechanism. We present a 28-year-old woman with relapsing-remitting opticspinal multiple sclerosis who also suffered POTS and discuss the possible pathomechanism of POTS in MS.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of vasopressin(Pitr- essin)on esophageal variceal bleeding in patients with cirrhosis.Methods 42 cirrhotic patients with acute esophageal variceal bleeding confirmed by endoscopy were randomly divided into 2 groups and administered with Pitressin and Pituitrin for 48 hrs respectively.The balloon tubes were placed in the stomach before the treatment,and the duration of hemostatsis,volume of transfusion,rebleeding and short-term survival period were recorded.Results After 12 hrs treatment,the hemostatic rate in Pitressin group was 72.7%,significantly higher than that in Pituitrin group(40.0%,P

Then the mice were killed and biochemical assays of neurol MDA,MAO-B,T-AOC were performed.ResultsThe model mice showed worse ability in learning and memory compared with control mice. The MDA cotent, MAO-B activity in the cortical increased in model mice compared with normal control; TSG reduced the MDA content, MAO-B activity,and increased T-AOC activity.ConclusionTSG can improve the learning and memory ability of model mice, decrease peroxidation level of brain, and increase antioxidation ability of brain, which suggest that TSG may have a promising application in treatment of dementia disease such as AD.

OBJECTIVE:To provide suggestions for China in dealing with the drug shortage problem by drawing experiences from USA.METHODS:The study was done by reiviewing literature and cases study.RESULTS:The FDA in USA has established procedures for the Center of Drug Evaluation and Organization of Regulation Affairs to resolve all kinds of drug shortage problems.CONCLUSIONS:A specific department should be set up to be responsible for resolving drug shortage problems in China with an emphasis on the shortage of medical necessary drugs,and it is urgent to get the information of drug shortage.

Plasma endothelin-1 (ET-1),von Willebrand factor ( vWF) and fibrin D-dimer (D-D) were determined in 14 children with schnlein-henoch purpuric nephritis (SHN),17 children with schnlein-hen och purp ura (SHP, no abnormal finding in the examination of the urinary system) and 12 children as normal controls, respectively. The results showed that plasma ET-1( 88.48±22.96ng/L),vWF(1.59±0.38U/ml) and D-D(1.45±0.39)mg/L in the SH N group were all significantly higher than those in both of the control group (4 3.73±17.89)ng/L, (0.99±0.3)U/ml and (0.28±0.23)mg/L and the SHP group (57. 54±20.92)ng/L, (1.5±0.31)U/ml and (0.64±0.34)mg/L although no significa ntly difference in the levels of vWF was observed between SHN and SHP groups. It was noticed that the levels of three parameters decreased significantly in the SHN g roup after treatment (all P＜0.01). There was a positive correlati on between the levels of plasma ET-1 and D-D with serum creatinine (all P＜0.01). It is suggested that excessive ET-1 induced by endothelial dam age of renal vessels, intravascular coagulation and secondary fibrinolysis are p robably involved in the process of renal damage.
