BACKGROUND: BO theory is introduced based on AO theory with the more attention to biological performance of fracture healing, which seriously promote the rapid development of bone plate. OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of the locking compression plate (LCP) by internal fixation on fracture healing of dog bilateral middle tibia. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A contrast study was performed at the Traumatic Orthopaedics Tissue Engineering Laboratory of Southern Medical University from June 2006 to October 2007. MATERIALS: A total of 24 healthy adult dogs weighing 14.5-21.2 kg and of either gender were used to prepare bilateral middle tibia fracture models. LCP was made of 316L stainless steel and provided by Zhengtian Medical Apparatus Co., Ltd., Tianjin. Conventional AO stainless steel plate was provided by Mateshi (Shanghai) Medical Apparatus Trading Co., Ltd. METHODS: Right tibia was treated with internal fixation of LCP as the experimental group, and left tibia was treated with conventional AO plate as the control group. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Samples were performed with X-ray examination, optic microscope, and microangiography, while microvessel image surface fraction was analyzed at 2, 4, and 6 weeks after operation. RESULTS: ① X-ray examination: The fractures healed well in both the experimental group and the control group, but a lot of bone calluses were found in the experimental group; while absorption and attenuation were found in bone cortex in the control group. ② Optic microscope: Bone absorption cavity was found in the control group, and structure of osteocytes was destroyed mostly. Bone absorption cavity was not found in the experimental group, and structure of plentiful osteocytes was intact. ③ Microangiography: A large area of ischemic region was found in bone cortex in the control group 2 weeks postoperatively and still observed 6 weeks postoperatively. A small area of ischemic region was found in the experimental group 2 weeks postoperatively; however, courser and distribution of microvessels were disorder. Six weeks later, the ischemic region disappeared generally, and courser of microvessels generally reached normal level. ④ Microvascular image surface fraction: At 2, 4, and 6 weeks postoperatively, the surface fraction in the experimental group was 1.78, 2.26, and 2.69 times as control group, and there was significant difference between them (P

Objective To explore the clinical function of biofeedback training in patients with high risks of postpartum depression,and to provide a new method to decrease the risk of postpartum depression.Methods From May 1,to December 31,2010,in Bayi Children's Hospital,General Hospital of Beijing Military Area Command of Chinese PLA,60 pregnant women with Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) evaluation score of 6 to 12 at 12～14 gestational weeks were randomly divided into the biofeedback training group (n=30) and the control group (n=30).The control group learned prenatal care knowledge in pregnant women's school.Moreover,the biofeedback training group received Self-generate Physiological Coherence System training till one week before delivery.Both groups were evaluated with the EPDS at baseline,and 3 days,6 weeks,3 months postpartum.Differences between the two groups were compared with mixed effect model.Results Totally,there were 51 pregnant women finished the study,including 25 women in the biofeedback training group and 26 in the control group.There were no statistical difference in EPDS score at 12～14 gestational weeks between the biofeedback training group and control group [8.5±2.0 vs 8.5±1.9,t=0.03,P=0.97].At 3 days,6 weeks and 3 months postpartum,the EPDS score of biofeedback training group was 4.1 ± 1.8,4.7 ± 2.0 and 4.6 ± 1.8 respectively,which was lower than those in the control group (6.5 ± 2.4,7.0 ± 2.5and 6.9±2.4) (interaction effect F=4.35,P=0.01).On each postpartum time-point,OR value and 95％CI was 0.12 (0.03-0.45),0.21 (0.06-0.68) and 0.23 (0.07-0.77),P＜0.05 respectively.Cohen's d value were 1.17,0.99 and 1.06 respectively.Compared with the baseline value,the total EPDS scores in each study stage declined with varied degrees in both groups,and the score-reducing level were obvious in the biofeedback training group than in the control group.Conclusion Biofeedback training could effectively relieve the depression symptoms in pregnant women with high risks of postpartum depression,and decrease the risk of postpartum depression.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of sinusitis in poorly controlled asthma children.Methods Asthmatic children from the Asthma Specialist Department of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital were selected as the study cases,of which 107 children coughing for more than 4 weeks after treatment were allocated to the research group and 105 newly diagnosed asthmatic children were selected as the control group.Results 1.The CT confirmed sinusitis prevalence was 81.3％ (87/107 cases) in research group and 51.4％ (54/105 cases) in the control group,respectively.The 2 groups were significantly different (x2 ＝ 21.242,P ＜ 0.05).2.The patient complained nasal obstruction in sinusitis group was 80.5％ (70/87 cases) compared to 50.0％ (10/20 cases) in non sinusitis group,and the difference between 2 groups was statistically significant (x2 =7.997,P ＜ 0.05).3.In the research group,69.2％ (74/107 cases) suffered from maxillary sinusitis,61.7％ (66/107 cases) ethmoid sinusitis,14.0％ (15/107 cases) frontal sinusitis,and 30.8％ (33/107 cases) sphenoid sinusitis.All the 4 nasosinus involved was 10.3％ (11/107 cases).The frequency of allergic rhinitis symptoms in 4 groups of sinuses had no significant difference (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions Chronic cough in poorly controlled asthma children is related to sinusitis and upper airway cough syndrome.

BACKGROUND:Previous studies on posterior cervical single door and double door laminoplasty for repair of multilevel cervical myelopathy mainly focus onneurological function and clinical parameters and lack of certain comprehensiveness.
OBJECTIVE:To explore the effects of posterior cervical single door and double door laminoplasty for repair of multilevel cervical myelopathy.
METHODS:We selected 120 patients with multilevel cervical myelopathy and randomly divided into single door group (n=60) and double door group (n=60). The single door group underwent single door laminoplasty. The double door group underwent double door laminoplasty. The blood loss,length of stay, complication rate, neurological function improvement, motion range of cervical vertebrae and imaging changes were compared between the two groups.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) Blood loss was significantly less, length of stay was significantly shorter, and the incidence of axial symptom was significantly reduced in the double door group than in the single door group (alP< 0.05). (2) No significant difference in complication rate such as side leakage of cerebrospinal fluid, hematoma, infection and paralysis was detected between the two groups (P> 0.05). The incidence of axial symptoms was significantly less in the double door group than in the single door group (P< 0.05). (3) There were no significant differences in preoperative Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores, postoperative Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores, and improvement in neurological function between the two groups (P> 0.05). Postoperative Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores were significantly increased as compared with that preoperatively in both groups (P<0.05). (4) No significant difference in motion range of cervical vertebrae, inflexion, extension angle and sagittal diameter of spinal canal was detectable between the two groups (P> 0.05). Motion range of cervical vertebrae, extension angle, and inflexion angle were smaler after treatment compared with that preoperatively in both groups (P< 0.05). The increased degree of sagittal diameter of spinal canal was smaler, and the motion range of cervical vertebrae kept better in the double door group than in the single door group. (5) These results indicate that the effect of double door laminoplasty for repair of multilevel cervical myelopathy was significant. The double door laminoplasty can shorten the length of stay, reduce blood loss, axial symptoms, and loss rate of motion range of the cervical vertebrae. In the clinic, treatment can be carried out according to different indications.

Objective:To study the immunomodulatory effect of extracts from Chinese marine algae, methanol extracts of thirty-nine species were assayed.Methods:The proliferation of T,B lymphocyte and cytotoxic was measured by MTT assay.Results:Among the methanol extracts of algae, 16 showed well concentration-dependent immunomodulatory effects, 6 have exhibited fine dual-immunomodulatory effects at the doses of 1-100 ?g/ml.Conclusion:These results suggest Chinese algae have different immunomodulatory effects and merit further investigation.

OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical effect of float needle therapy combined with reperfusion activity for pain induced by cyclomastopathy.

METHODSThirty-five female patients with cyclomastopathy were randomly divided into a comprehensive group (18 cases) and a float needle group (17 cases). In the comprehensive group, float needle manipulation was used at the centre of the biceps brachii belly or the ligature between the affected nipple and breast nodule, about 4 cm beside the exterior margin of the breast, and the reperfusion activity of the affected upper limb and breast was combined. In the float needle group, simple float needle therapy was adopted. In the two groups, treatment was started 7 ± 3 days before menstruation, once every other day. After 3-time treatment, the changes of short form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) scores before and after treatment, the time of pain relieved during the first treatment, recurrence in 3 months after treatment and the adverse reaction were observed. Also, the clinical effects of the two groups were compared.

RESULTSImmediately at the end of the first treatment,after 3-time treatment and while followed up for one month, each item score and the total score of SF-MPQ were decreased apparently than the scores before treatment (all P < 0.05), and all the scores mentioned above of the comprehensive group were declined more obviously than those of the float needle group (all P < 0.05). The time of pain relieved during the first treatment of the comprehensive group was much shorter than that of the float needle group [(94.72 ± 33.67) s vs (162.06 ± 29.16) s, P < 0.01]. The recurrence rate of the comprehensive group in 3 months after treatment was 5.9% (1/17), which was better than 20.0% (3/15) of the float needle group (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONFloat needle therapy combined with reperfusion activity and simple float needle therapy can both safely and effectively improve cyclomastopathy, and the combination therapy is better than simple float needle therapy in the aspects of pain relieving effect at once and the long term effect.

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of exercise therapy on patients with osteoporosis according to osteoporosis quality of life scale(OQOLS)and the changes in biochemical markers of bone metabolism.Methods Totally 94 patients with primary osteoporosis were randomly divided into 2 groups:the intervention group [exercise therapy (Wu Xing Jian Gu Cao) with calcium/vitamin D supplementation for 90 days] and the control group (only calcium/vitamin D supplementation for 90 days].OQOLS and the changes in biochemical markers of bone metabolism were observed before and after treatment.Results Compared with before treatment,25-hydroxy vitamin D[25-(OH) D]levels were increased in control group (33 cases) and intervention group (29 cases) after treatment [(61.2± 11.1) mmol/L vs.(48.1±26.2)mmol/L,both P＜0.001],and the enhanced level was higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P＜0.05).Compared with before treatment,bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP) was decreased in control and intervention group after treatment (both P＜0.05).There were significant differences in OQOLS in both groups between before and after treatment except for the function of physical activities in intervention group (P＜0.05).Conclusions The basic and exercise therapy can both increase [25-(OH) D] level,reduce BALP,and have clinical effects on bone metabolism,while exercise therapy has an improvement in osteoporosis quality of life in patients with osteoporosis.

Objective To investigate effect of applying nursing flowchart in the post-anesthesia care unit(PACU).Method The nursing flowchart in PACU are as follous,including a ventilator connection,monitoring instrument connection,handover of pipeline and skin and training for PACU nurses.Results After application of the nursing flowchart,the nursing time for postoperative patients was reduced from 7.0 min to 4.0 min.No nursing risks and adverse events occurred.Conclusion Application of nursing flowchart in PACU can improve the quality of nursing and enhance patients safety.

Objective To evaluate the effect of clinic-pathological variables on prognosis and recurrence of the aged women suffered from borderline epithelial ovarian tumors. Methods The clinical and follow-up data of 102 cases were analyzed retrospectively. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to assess independent prognosis and recurrence factors.Results The postoperative accessory treatment, peritoneal implantation and lymph nodes metastasis could influence the 5-year survival rate(χ2=19.311, 11.054, 18. 559, all P＜0.01). The surgery procedure, peritoneal implantation, lymph nodes metastasis and microinvasion could influence the recurrence rate(χ2=23.606, 23.583, 25.774, 23.583, all P＜0.01). The logistic regression model showed that the postoperative accessory treatment and peritoneal implantation were the two independent prognosis factors (OR=0.060, 35.319, all P＜0.01). The surgery procedure,peritoneal implantation and microinvasion were the three independent factors affecting recurrence(OR =0.001, P＜0.05;OR=60.952, P＜0.05;OR=88.874, P＜0.01). Conclusions The early standard treatment on borderline epithelial ovarian tumors of the aged women have an excellent prognosis, the risk of recurrence remains in some patients. We emphasize that these patients with highrisk factors should be main surveillance population.

Objective To establish a rapid SNP( single-nucleotide polymorphism) genetic identification method for the frozen samples, such as frozen embryos and sperm of inbred mice.Methods In this study, the frozen embryos and sperm of inbred mice were provided by Shanghai Lab.Animal Research Center.Whole genome amplification and PCR-LDR genotyping system were used to get the rich DNA sample.Forty-five SNP were genotyped by multiple polymerase chain re-action and ligase detection reaction( PCR-LDR) .Results The electrophoresis results showed that the whole genome am-plification technique could highly increase the total DNA of frozen embryos.PCR-LDR typing method was suitable for the mouse genome typing of 45 SNPs.Ten strains of inbred frozen embryos and sperms of C57BL/6, BALB/c, FVB/NJ mice were genotyping identified, and their SNP loci data obtained by PCR-LDR were as the same as those of database.The num-ber of frozen mouse embryos was proportional to the number of SNPs detected, and when the embryo number reached more than 12, the detection rate of SNP was 100%.Conclusions This method can be used to the genetic quality identification, and rapidly identify the inbreed frozen mouse embryos and sperms.
