Journal of Clinical Pediatrics 2016;34(10):740-743
Objective To explore the correlation between vitamin A (VA) level andMycoplasma pneumonia (MP). Methods Children aged 0-12 years hospitalized with acute infectious respiratory diseases during March 2015 to December 2015 were randomly selected. The level of serum VA was detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). MP-DNA on nasopharyngeal swab was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The serum MP-IgM was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The MP infection rate among subclinical VA deficiency (SVAD) group, suspicious subclinical VA deifciency (SSVAD) group and VA normal group were analyzed and compared. Results Among 600 children, there were 83 cases of SVAD (13.83%) and 193 cases of SSVAD (32.17%). There were statistical differences of the incidences between SVAD and SSVAD in children younger than 1-year-old, 1-3 years old, 3-6 years old and≥6 years old (P all<0.001), among which SVAD and SSVAD groups had the highest incidence rates in infants younger than 1 year old (26.36% and 49.10%respectively). Among 600 children, MP was positive in 201 children (33.5%), in whom 57 children (28.35%) were SVAD and 70 children (34.83%) were SSVAD. The incidence rate of SVAD in children with MP positive was higher than that in children with MP negative (P<0.001). In 201 children with MP positive, there were signiifcant differences in the distribution of SVAD, SSVAD and VA among different age groups (P=0.003), and the incidence rate of SVAD in infants younger than 1 year old was higher (48.39%).Conclusions SSVAD and SVAD are common in infants younger than 1 year old; SVAD may be associated with MP infection in children.

Chinese Journal of Hospital Administration 2011;27(4):297-300
Objective Patient safety is key to quality of care in hospital management, for which drug safety is critical. General hospitals are challenged with how to monitor drug adverse reaction (ADR), and motivate their staff to report ADRs in building a hospital safety culture. Methods The PDCA cycle quality improvement process was called into play, to set the ADR criteria and analyze data of inpatients' ADRs from 2005 to 2009, which was followed by measures proposed for ADR continuous improvement. Results A total of 2850 ADR cases were reported in the past 5 years, averaging 570 cases per year. The ADR incidence rate was 3. 28%, of which 43 were severe ADR cases, or 0. 49% of the total cases, accounting for 1. 51% of all the ADR cases. Year to year, the quantity and quality of ADR reporting have been improving in the hospital, witnessing an initial culture of drug safety. In 2008, the hospital was awarded as an advanced ADR center in Beijing. Conclusion The PDCA cycle is an effective means for ADR management, as it can improve the awareness of the medical staff for proactive ADR reporting. Sustained circular management against ADRs can minimize risks and maximize patient safety.Under-reporting and the corrective measures shall be watched over by the hospital in the future.

AIM: To investigate the cytological basis and differentiating conditions of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) differentiated into cells of the endothelial lineage in vitro. METHODS: hMSCs were isolated by density gradient centrifugation and fractionated on a 1 073 g/L Percoll. The combination of VEGF165 and various matrix proteins including fibronectin (FN) and type I collagen (Col) was used to induce hMSCs in vitro. Cells were characterized by immunohistochemistry, cytochemistry, FACS and ultrastructure to identify and detect the differentiated population and markers. RESULTS: hMSCs was positive for KDR. PAS reaction was positive and ultrastructure of hMSCs showed glycogen- pool in ectoplasm. Glycogen reducing or disappear suggested that stem cells have occurred differentiation. Induction of hMSCs resulted in the increase of KDR, β1 integrin and CD34. CONCLUSION: hMSCs were induced to a transit population (TP( )) that differentiated toward the endothelial progenitor cells ( EPC), but not a really EPC. hMSCs pedigree diagram of differentiation was hMSCs→TP→EPC→endothelial cells (Ecs).
