1.Dynamic changes in serum levels of β-amyloid precursor protein and hypersensitive-cross-reactive protein in rats afar acute spinal cord injury

Objective To investigate the serum levels of β-amyloid precursor protein (β-APP) and hypersensitive-cross-reactive protein(hs-CRP) after acute spinal cord injury(SCI) in rats at different time points and study their roles in secondary spinal cord injury. Methods Ninety healthy adult female SD rats were randomly assigned into 3 even groups.Improved Allen method was used to create models of complete SCI (group A) and models of incomplete SCI (group B).In group C only laminectomy was performed without SCI.The serum was collected at 12 hours,24 hours,3 days,7 days,and 14 days after operation through femoral vein to detect levels of β-APP and hs-CRP by ELISA. ResultsThe serum level of β-APP reached the peak value 24 hours after acute SCI,and the serum level of hs-CRP reached the peak 3 days after acute SCI.There were significant differences between groups A and C in β-APP and hs-CRP levels at all time points( P < 0.05).There were also significant differences between groups B and C in β-APP and hs-CRP levels at all time points (P <0.05) except at 14 days (P> 0.05). Conclusions The serum levels of β-APP and hs-CRP are positively associated with the severity of traumatic SCI.β-APP may be a more sensitive indicator than hs-CRP in a certain time.The dynamic changes of serum β-APP and hs-CRP suggest involvement of the 2 proteins in the secondary spinal cord injury.
2.The efficacy of low-frequency electrical acupoint stimulation plus rehabilitation training in improving the swallowing function of stroke survivors

Objective To test the efficacy of low-frequency electrical acupoint stimulation plus rehabilitation training in improving swallowing function after stroke. MethodsEighty dysphagic stroke patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups of 40.Patients in the experimental group received low-frequency electrical acupoint stimulation plus 2 courses of rehabilitation training.Control group patients received the same protocol,but the electrical stimulation was not over acupoints.Their swallowing function was assessed using the Kubota water drinking test.ResultsAfter treatment,both groups showed significantly lower Kubota scores compared with pre-treatment.Prepost test difference was 1.25 ± 0.78 in the experimental group and 0.70 ± 0.72 in the control group,a significant difference.The total recovery rate in the experimental group was 87.5%.In the control group it was 55%.The improvement in swallowing function was significantly better in the experimental group.Conclusion Both groups showed a significant improvement in swallowing function,but low-frequency electrical acupoint stimulation increased the effectiveness of the rehabilitation training.

4.Circumferential electrocautery of the patellar in primary total knee replacement without patella replacement: a meta-analysis and systematic review

Objective To identify and assess whether circumferential electrocautery is useful to improve outcomes after primary total knee replacement.Methods We searched MEDLINE,EMBASE,PubMed,SpringerLink,Web of Knowledge,OVID CINAHL,OVID EBM and Google Scholar,and included articles published through January 2014.This study used the methods of meta-analysis to assess whether circumferential electrocautery could improve anterior knee pain and knee function after total knee replacement,and identified the function of circumferential electrocautery in total knee replacement.Results A total of eight articles met the inclusion criteria.Among the 1 048 cases included in the analysis,526 cases had patellar denervation,and 522 cases were in the control group.The meta-analysis revealed no significant difference in the incidence of anterior knee pain (P =0.18) and visual analogue scale (VAS) (P =0.23) between two groups.However,patellar score (P =0.01),Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) score (P < 0.01),and range of motion (ROM) (P < 0.01) indicated that circumpatellar electrocautery improved clinical outcomes compared to non-electrocautery groups.Conclusions The results indicated that circumferential electrocautery of the patellar did not significantly improve anterior knee pain relative to non-electrocautery techniques.However,circumferential electrocautery significantly improved patients' knee function after surgery.Therefore,circumferential electrocautery might be beneficial to the outcome of primary total knee replacement surgery without patella replacement.
5.Comparison of the Cox-2 expression in esophageal, gastric and cardia carcinomas

Objective To determine whether Cox-2 inhibitor can reduce the risk of cardia carcinoma. Methods Paraffin-embedded specimens from 48 patients with esophageal, gastric or cardia carcinomas were analyzed by immunohistochemistry for expression of Cox-2 protein. Expression of Cox-2mRNA was assessed by RT-PCR and ISPCR in 29 cases of them. None of these patients were currently taking NSAIDs or glucocorticoid. Results The staining scores were 4.15?1.9 in the group with esophageal cancer, 3.66?1.16 in the group with gastric cancer, and 2.93?1.03 in the group with cardia cancer, respectively. There was no significant difference between groups of gastric cancer and cardia cancer. The ratio of cases with positive expression of Cox-2 mRNA was 87.5% in the group with cardia carcinoma, 100% in the group with esophageal cancer and the group with gastric cancer. And no significant difference was found between them. Cox-2mRNA was mainly located in cytoplasm but was found in nuclear too. No difference was found in the location of Cox-2 expression in the three kinds of cancers. Conclusion Cox-2 expression in cardia carcinoma was higher than in the normal group. Its pathological characteristics were almost the same as those in gastric and esophageal cancers. Cox-2 inhibitor possibly have a chemopreventive effect on cardia carcinoma.
6.Effects of accumulated 6aCo γ-ray irradiation on the small molecular metabolites in rats urine

Objective To explore the effects of accumulated 60CD,γ-ray irradiation on small molecular metabolites in rats urine.Methods Ten healthy male SD rats were irradiated by 60Co γ-rays in 5 days and the accumulated doses were 0,0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8,1.0 Gy,respectively.The metabolites in urine of different groups were measured with 1 H-NMR combined with principal components analysis (PCA) and partial least square discriminate analysis (PLS-DA). Results The metabolites in rat urine were obviously changed after irradiation. Compared with control group,the amount of acetoacetate decreased after irradiation(t =29.7 -30.7,P < 0.05 ),but its relative level was stable when the dose increased ( P > 0.05 ).Meanwhile,the relative level of hippuric acid increased ( t =4.4 - 21.6,P < 0.05 ) especially when the accumulated dose was higher than 1 Gy (t =21.6,P<0.05). The relative level of proline,taurine and trimethylamine-N-oxide increased after irradiation with the same trend( t =3.5 - 13.4,4.7 - 11.5,2.9- 12.7,P<0.05). Conclusions The acetoacetate,hippuric acid,proline,taurine,and trimethylamine-N-oxide may be applicable for biomarkers of accumulative irradiation on rat.
7.Application of hospital-family continuous nursing in improving the symptoms and life quality of patients with COPD

Objective To explore the effect of hospital-family continuous nursing on the symptoms and life quality of COPD patients.Methods A total of 80 stable COPD patients in our hospital from July to November 2016 were selected as research objects and were divided into two groups according to the time of admission,patients in odd-numbered admission day was as observation group (hospital-family continuous nursing),and patients in even-numbered day was as control group (routine nursing),self-management,symptom control and life quality after 3 months of discharge in the two groups were compared.Results The total score of self-management after 3 months of discharge in the observation group was higher,but the CAT score was lower,and times of disease onset was less than that in the control group,the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05).The life quality scores in influence,symptoms,and activities after 3 months of discharge in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05).Conclusion The hospital-family continuous nursing for COPD patients can improve the self-management ability,relieve the symptoms and improve the life quality.

Developing an effective teaching system is the focus of curriculum teaching reform in the post pandemic era. According to the characteristics of Human and Animal Physiology, the course teachers has developed a new teaching system by updating the teaching concept, reconstructing the contents of the course, changing the teaching modes, strengthening the integration of moral and intellectual education, and improving the assessment approaches. This teaching system is aimed at meeting the need of personalized learning for students and adapting to a new teaching environment. This article introduces the exploration and practice of the curriculum reform.

10. Effects of different radiation on chromosome aberration in human lymphoblastoid cells

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of ~(56)Fe~(17+),~(12)C~(6+)ion beams and~(60)Co γ rays on chromosome aberration in human lymphoblastoid cells. METHODS: The human lymphoblastoid cells were divided into 0. 1,0. 3,0. 5,0. 7,1. 0,2. 0 Gy irradiated groups and 0. 0 Gy control group. They were separately exposed to ~(56)Fe~(17+)ion beams( linear energy transfer was 400. 0 ke V/μm),~(12)C~(6+)ion beams( linear energy transfer was 26. 0 ke V/μm) and~(60)C γ rays. Chromosome specimens were harvested 48 hours after irradiation. The effects of different radiation on dicentric plus centric ring( “d + r”) aberration rate and chromosome aberration in human lymphoblastoid cells were detected by light microscope with artificial counting. RESULTS: The “d + r”aberration rates induced by 0. 3-2. 0 Gy ~(12)C~(6+)ion beams were significantly higher than those of ~(56)Fe~(17+)ion beams and~(60)Co γ rays at the same dose( P < 0. 017). Chromosome aberration cell rates of 0. 1-2. 0 Gy ~(12)C~(6+)ion beams were significantly higher than those of ~(56)Fe~(17+)ion beams and~(60)C γ rays at the same dose( P < 0. 017). At the dose range of 0. 0-2. 0 Gy,chromosome aberration effects of three kinds of radiations were gradually increased( P < 0. 01). The relative biological effectiveness of ~(56)Fe~(17+)ion beams was lower than that of ~(12)C~(6+)ion beams.CONCLUSION: The chromosome aberration induced by ~(12)C~(6+)ion beams was more serious than that of~(60)Co γ rays and ~(56)Fe~(17+)ion beams.
