Objective To discuss the techniques and the prevention and cure of preoperative complications of the endovascular embolization in managing the intracranial aneurysms. Methods A total of 90 aneurysms in 88 patients were treated by detachable coils embolization. The clinical results and the management of complications were reported. Results Seventy aneurysms were occluded at 100%, 13 aneurysms at 90% to 95% and 5 aneurysms at only 80. The perioperative complications occurred in 9 patients, including the coil escaping from the aneurysm sac into its parent artery in 3 patients, re-rupturing of aneurysm in 4 patients during operation and serious vasospasm in 2 patients. Two patients died. Conclusion The endovascular embolization is a safe, effective and micro invasive method in managing intracranial aneurysms. The exact embolizing techniques chosen are very important to improve the curative results and decrease the complications of embolization of intracranial aneurysms.

Purpose To study the clinicopathological characteristics in 22 cases of ovarian mature teratoma with malignant transforma-tion. Methods Clinical and pathologic features were collected and analyzed in 22 out of 1 826 cases of ovarian mature teratoma by retrospective studies, together with immunohistochemical staining. Results In our study, 22 cases (1. 2%) of ovarian mature terato-ma with malignant transformation were identified. The median age was 56. 5 (range, 31~79) years. The main clinical manifestations were pelvic masses, including 13 cases in the left ovary, 8 cases in the right, 1 case was bilateral. Gross cystic teratoma were saw in 19 cases, 3 cases of cystic and solid, the bilateral one was solid in the left which the right was cystic. The teratomas size were 5. 0~30 cm with average 12. 4 cm in diameter. The malignant components’ maximum diameter was about 1. 0~10. 0 cm with average 3. 7 cm. Microscopicically, there were poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma in 14 cases, carcinoid carcinoma in 4 cases, adeno-carcinoma in 2 cases, papillary thyroid carcinoma in 2 cases, and the last one was sarcomatoid carcinoma. The FIGO stage distribution was as follows:16 were stage IA, 1 was stage IB, 1 was stage IIA, 4 were stage IIB. Follow up showed 6 cases recurrened, 2 patients died, the rest are survival. Conclusions A low incidence of ovarian mature teratoma in somatic cells with malignant transformation, which are common in postmenopausal women and present with pelvic mass. The main malignant components is squamous cell carcino-ma, patients of stage I have better prognosis. Both clinic and pathology should take more attention to the comprehensive examination and diagnosis of teratoma for prevent misdiagnosis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility of using cartilage link protein of hyaluronic acid (HA-CLP) for defining the tumor boundary in a mouse model of lung carcinoma.

METHODSLung carcinoma was induced in KM mice by chemical carcinogenesis. HA-CLP separated from bovine cartilage and purified by affinity chromatography was labeled with (125)I for autoradiography. Immunohistochemical analysis and Western blotting were used to examine the efficiency of HA-CLP in defining the boundaries of the lung tumors.

RESULTSWith autoradiography, the clearest image of lung cancer was obtained at 2 h. With immunohistochemical method, the tumor boundary was the most clearly displayed at 2 h when the strongest signals of HA-CLP was detected; Western blotting also showed the clearest bands of HA-CLP at 2 h.

CONCLUSIONHA-CLP has the immunogenicity of HABP, and can efficiently indicate lung tumor boundary in autoradiography and immunohistochemistry.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the changes of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 after traumatic brain injury. METHODS: Use the fluid-percussion model to inflict rat brain and take the samples at 2, 4, 8, 12, 24 hours after brain injury. The samples were studied by immunohistochemistry method combined with image analysis by MIAS image analysis system. RESULT: The expression of ICAM-1 upregulates at 2 hours, reaches peak at 12 hours and falls down at 24 hours after brain injury. CONCLUSION The changes of ICAM-1 in brain can provide a backup for estimation of injury time and survival period after brain injury which sustained within 24 hours.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the changes of GDNF after severe brain injury. METHODS: Changes GDNF in cortex, thalamus and pontine was observed by using immunohistochemistry and image analysis technique. RESULTS: The lever of GDNF was increasing at 1 d, reaching peak at 3 d, not obviously decreasing at 5 d and still higher than normal at 7 d after severe brain injury. CONCLUSION As an objective indication, the time sequence regularity of GDNF after brain injury may be applied in brain injury time estimation.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the expression of water channel 1 protein in the lung of drown rat and that of after death thrown into the water. METHODS: Immunohistochemical method was used and the computer image analysis was conducted to detect the distribution of AQP1. RESULTS: The positive expression of AQP1 was seen in the capillary endotheliocyte of the interstitial and around bronchi and in the alveolar endothelial cells. The value of intergrated optical density was statistical significant. CONCLUSION It suggests that AQP1 is one of sensitive signs to distinguish ante-mortem and postmortem immersion.

Impairment of neuronal mitochondria following hypoxia of brain not only result in nerve cell's energy-deprivation and dysfunction, mitochondria also play key roles in apoptosis of neurons. A central step being the release of cytochrome c (cyt c) across the outer mitochondrial membrane into the cytoplasm through opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore. Releasing of cytochrome c induce to downstream consequences of specific caspase activation. The antiapoptotic and proapoptotic members of the Bcl-2 family regulate mitochondrial activities relevant to apoptotic signaling by influencing the realaseing of cyt c.

OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of c-fos in organs after rats electrified. METHODS: The brain, lung, heart, liver, spleen, kidney, muscle of electrified limb, and cutis of electrified limb of all experimental rats and those organs of control groups were dissected to detect the expression of c-fos by using immunohistochemistry staining, and the staining intensity were assessed by image analysis system. RESULTS: The expression of c-fos was observed in brain, heart, liver, lung, kidney and muscle in electrified directly group, the amount of expression reached peak at 2 h after electrified and decreasing at 8 h after electrified, and the expression showed faintness in electrified at the immediate after death group. The expressions of c-fos in spleen and cutis is negative in all groups. The expression of c-fos in all detected organs was negative in other rats that were electrified after death. CONCLUSION c-fos can be regard as a target in identifying electrical injury, whether it formed at antemortem or postmortem.
