OBJECTIVETo determine the residues of organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals in Radix Ophiopogonis and Ophiopogon japonicus.
METHODThe residues of 4 isomers of benzene hexa chloride (BHC) and 4 isomers of dichloro dipheny trichloroethane (DDT) were determined by gas chromatography. The contents of Pb, Cd, Cu, Cr, Hg and As were determined by ICP.
RESULTThe residues of organochlorine pesticides in Radix Ophiopogonis were lower than the permissible maximum limits of the Chinese national standard except hexachloride (BHC) in Radix Ophiopogonis from Cixi as well as Cu in soil of Luojiang.
CONCLUSIONThe enrichment capacity of Radix Ophiopogonis for (BHC) and Hg is higher. It is suggested that we should try to select herbs-growing soil for O. japonicus with a particular emphasis on the pesticides residues in soil.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2010;35(11):1372-1377
OBJECTIVETo study the effects of soil factors on the active components in Radix Ophiopogonis.
METHODThe content of polysaccharide, flavonoids, saponins, water-soluble extract and inorganic elements in Radix Ophiopogonis gathered from 7 different places were compared, physical and chemical properties and inorganic elements of soil were analyzed. The path and grey connection analysis were applied for studying the effects on the active components of Radix Ophiopogonis.
RESULT AND CONCLUSIONThe concentrations of mineral elements in plant were mainly adjusted by active absorption. The active components in Radix Ophiopogonis was primarily effected by soil enzyme activity, the other important factors were potassium, pH, and organic matter. K, Fe, Mn, B, Ba, Zn of soil also had much influence on it then others inorganic elements.

Objective To investigate the effect of cerebral ischemia on functional parameters of affected arteries and probe into the possible pathogenesis of ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods Intraluminal suture ischemic model was used by occlusion of left middle cerebral artery in rats. Two hours later, the middle cerebral artery segments were isolated from both ischemia and control groups for measurement of changes in vessel diameter induced by increasing pressure and vasoactive compounds. And then, distensibility, myogenic tone, reactivity to 5-HT and ACh were calculated and compared between groups. Results In lower pressure range, ischemic vessels showed an increased myogenic tone(at 40 mm Hg,1 mm Hg=0.133 kPa,19.3%±0.4% vs 10.0%±0.2%,t=20.568,P=0.000)and decreased diameter. In higher pressure range, ischemic vessels showed an increased diameter.distensibility and decreased myogenic tone(at 120 mm Hg,12.0%±0.2% vs 21.8%±0.4%,t=-23.575,P=0.000).In normal pressure range, myogenic tone was not altered after ischemia. Both groups constricted to 5-HT and dilated to ACh,however, the response was significantly diminished after ischemla. Conclusion These findings demonstrate that contractile and diastolic function of affected artery was impaired after ischemia,a result that may contribute to ischemia-reperfusion injury by losing upstream cerebrovascular resistance and increasing perfusion on the microcirculation.

Objective To study the feasibility and clinical significance of internal tourniquet (temporary arterial lumen blood flow occlusion by balloon catheter) for controlling the hemorrhage from traumatic neck and adjacent trunk arteries by temporarily occluding the arterial lumen blood flow. Methods The study involved 35 patients with traumatic neck and near trunk arteries who were firstly managed by internal tourniquet during operation to temporarily occlude the proximal aorta blood flow from May 1987 to February 2009.Each blocking time ranged from 30 to 70 minutes and the blocking was performed at an interval of 15 to 20 minutes. Then, surgical therapy was taken. Results After temporary proximal aorta blood flow occlusion with internal tourniquet, the operation presented few bleeding, with a clean operating field and clear anatomic structures. The total intraoperative blood loss was 100-400 ml.All patients were healed without ischemia of brains and limbs or relapse during the 3-14 years of followup. Conclusion Internal tourniquet, which can effectively reduce intraoperative blood loss and improve operation safety by temporarily occluding the proximal aorta blood flow,is an auxiliary approach for treating hemorrhage from traumatic neck and adjacent trunk arteries.

OBJECTIVETo assess the diagnosis and treatment of venous hypertensive myelopathy (VHM) caused by narrowing of the ascending lumbar vein.
METHODThe data from 3 patients with VHM caused by narrowing of the ascending lumbar vein were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTSOnce the narrowed site of the lumbar ascending vein was determined by myelographic or angiographic technique, an undetachable balloon was introduced and advanced to the proximal part of the narrowed segment. Satisfactory results were obtained in these patients.
CONCLUSIONNarrowing of the ascending lumbar vein is one of the causes for VHM, and endovascular balloon angioplasty is an optimal treatment.

OBJECTIVETo assess the feasibility superselective embolization using microcatheters in treatment of intravertebral canal vascular malformation.
METHODSIn 128 patients with intravertebral canals vascular malformation, their AVMS or fistulae were treated with silk thread, Ivalon microspheres or tungsten microcoils.
RESULTSIn the 128 patients, 120 fistulae disappeared completely, but 8 were embolized 60% - 80%. Symptoms were improved in 113 patients. Improved muscular strength from grade I to IV was obtained in 8 patients, from grade II to III in 32, from grade III to IV in 32, and from grade IV to V in 41. The symptoms did not change in 15 patients.
CONCLUSIONSuperselective embolization through microcatheter is effective in the treatment of intraspinal canal vascular malformations.

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the differential diagnosis of atypical adenomyosis and fibroids using a decision tree model. Methods:The data of cases with difficulty in differentiating atypical adenomyosis from fibroids on conventional ultrasound examination at Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from April 2021 to April 2022 were selected and analyzed. Ninety-five patients with contrast-enhanced ultrasound examination were finally selected, including 64 patients in the pathologically confirmed adenomyosis group and 31 patients in the fibroids group. The data from the qualitative analysis and the quantitative analysis of the time-intensity curve (TIC) curve were collected separately, including the temporal variability of contrast entry into the lesion, i.e.the difference between the time when the contrast agent started to enter the lesion and the time when the contrast agent finally filled the lesion completely. Indicators were first screened for inclusion in the decision tree model by univariate and multifactorial analyses, and decision tree models based on qualitative analysis indicators, and qualitative and TIC-based analyses were developed to further assess the diagnostic efficacy of both models. Results:Through the univariate analysis, it showed that the qualitative analysis indicators of lesion onset enhancement pattern, enhancement intensity, intra-lesion contrast distribution, and post-contrast lesion border were of statistical significance (all P<0.05) between the two groups. The differences in contrast arrive time (AT), contrast time to peak (TTP), |ΔAT|, and |ΔTTP| in the TIC curve analysis indexes were statistically significant between the two groups (all P<0.05). The difference in lesion temporal phase variability was statistically significant between the two groups ( P<0.05). After further screening by multifactorial analysis, the accuracy and misdiagnosis rates were 87.40% and (17.90±3.90)% in the qualitative analysis-based decision tree model respectively, and 90.50% and (21.10±4.20) % in the qualitative and TIC curve-based analysis decision tree model respectively. The ROC curves were plotted according to the two groups of models, and the areas under the curves were 0.915 and 0.931 respectively. Conclusions:A decision tree model based on ultrasonographic image analysis has diagnostic value for the differential diagnosis of atypical adenomyosis and uterine fibroids.
