3.Imaging Analysis of Abnormal Soft Tissue in Cheeks
Journal of Practical Radiology 2001;0(06):-
Objective To improve the recognition of abnormal image of soft tissue in cheeks. Methods Images of 47 cases with abnormal soft tissue in cheeks were retrospectively studied. Results (1) 15 cases were originated from soft tissue of the cheeks in which 8 cases were benign and 7 cases were malignant.6 cases were invaded by maxillofacial affection nearby,in which 1 case was benign and 5 cases were malignant.26 cases were involved by lesions of jaw bones, including benign tumor of jaw bones in 9, malignant tumor of jaw bones in 14 and chronic osteomyelitis of jaw bones in 3 and all had bony destruction; (2) According to originated position,21 cases were not originated from jaw bones,in which there were 5 cases (23.8%) with destruction of jaw bones;(3)In the 26 cases with abnormal soft tissue of cheeks originated from jaw bones, 9 were benign tumors in which all the soft tissue masses were mainly localized inside of the jaw bones, while 14 cases were malignant tumors in which all the soft-tissue masses were localized both inside and outside of the jaw bones. There was remarkable difference between the two groups(P=0.000).All 9 cases of benign tumors appeared as dilated destruction of jaw bones, while in the 14 cases of malignant tumors, 12 cases showed osteolytic bone destruction and the other 2 cases showed ossific bone destruction, there was significant difference between the two groups(P=0.000).Conclusion CT and MRI are of significance in judging original position, extent and differential diagnosis between benign and malignant lesions of abnormal soft tissue in cheeks.
4.Prevalence of peripheral arterial disease and its risk factors in Zhoushan fishery area in Zhejiang Province
Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2003;0(11):-
Objective To study the prevalence of peripheral arterial disease(PAD).Methods Totally 2668 fishermen and their families above 35 years old were recruited in a cross sectional study of randomly cluster sampling in 10 villages of Zhoushan fishery area, one of the biggest four fishery in the world,in Summer. All the cases underwent the ankle arm index(AAI) measurement using portable doppler ultrasound device. An AAI less than or equal to 0.9 was considered to be indicative of significant PAD.Fasting plasma glocose and oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT)were also examined to distinguish normal glucose tolerance(NGT),imparied glucose tolerance(IGT)and diabetes melitus(DM). Results The prevalence of PAD of 2668 cases was 2.1%.PAD prevalence was found to be 2.1%,2.9%,and 6.3% in patients with NGT,IGT,and DM respectively. It was seldom seen in people under 50 years old and the PAD was more popular in older people. Conclusions The prevalence of peripheral arterial discase of the general people in Zhoushan fishery area is lower.

Objective To investigate the molecular epidemiology of CRAB isolated from children in wuhan. Methods Forty non-repetitive strains of CRAB were collected from hospitalized children of emergency department, neonatal medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, bone surgery, respiratory medicine and renal medicine in Wuhan children's hospital during December 2008 and May 2009. MIC values were PFGE; KPC, IMP, GIM, SPM, SIM, OXA-23, VIM genes and integrase gene were amplified by PCR and then sequenced to confirm the genotypes.; Plasmid conjugation experiment was used to study the transfer method of bacterial resistance and southern blot hybridization was used to target the resistance genes. Results Susceptible rates of 40 strains to gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, trimoxazole were 20%, 5%, 93%, 93%, 95%, and 23% respectively. Eleven types of clone were detected by PFGE,including 29 strains of type A clone, 2 strains of type B clone, and 1 strain for each type of C to K clone. Eleven isolates produced both IMP-4 and OXA-23 carbapemase. Twenty-six isolates only possessed OXA-23 carbapemase. Thirty-six strains carried class Ⅰ integron. The results of southern blot hybridization showed that Intl, IMP-4 and OXA-23 type were located on chromosome. Conclusions Type A clone of CRAB is the most common. OXA-23 and IMP-4 type are the major acquired carbapemases, especially the OXA-23 is the most common type. The horizontal transmission of OXA-23 and IMP-4 gene mediated by Int1 and the spread of type A resistant clone is the major way of the spread of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii in the region.

Objective To investigate the potential effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus) on prevention and treatment of neonatal mice infected with human rotavirus (HRV). Methods Sixty 4-day-old kunming mice were randomly divided into control group. HRV infected group, L. acidophilus pretreated group (treated before HRV infection ) and L. acidophilus treated group(treated after HRV infection). The manifestation and pathological changes in small intestine of neonatal mice were observed. The HRV antigen in the feces and intestines were measured by ELISA and fluorescent-focus assay, respectively. Results The severity and duration of diarrhea as well as mortality in L. acidophilus pretreated group and treated group were lower than those in HRV infected group. The duration of HRV-antigens shedding following infection was considerably prolonged in HRV infected group compared to that in L. acidophilus pretreated group and treated group. Furthermore, decreased expression of HRV antigen and little pathological changes in intestinal mucosa were found in L. acidophilus pretreated group and treated group when compared with HRV infected group. Conclusion L. acidophilus may be used as an alternative approach for the prevention and treatment of neonatal mice infected with HRV.
