Extracellular matrix protein-1 (ECM-1) is a secretory glycoprotein. Recent studies found that the protein may be related to the digestive tract tumor growth, invasion and metastasis. In this paper,the basic structure and function, as well as the possible mechanism in gastrointestinal cancer have been reviewed.

Objective To investigate the effects of three procedures for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) on neuroendocrine and immune responses and its clinical significance. Methods Patients were divided into three groups with 20 patients in each group: the Group Ⅰreceived the transuretheral resection of prostate (TURP), the Group Ⅱ received the suprapubic transvesical prostatectomy (SPP) and the Group Ⅲ underwent the retropubic prevesical prostatectomy (RPP). The pre- and post- operative serum concentrations of Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and cortisol as well as changes of T-cell subgroups in the three groups were analyzed , respectively. Results Serum IL-6 concentrations remarkably increased at the third postoperative hour in patients of all the three groups, but those in Group Ⅱ and Group Ⅲ were significantly higher than those in Group Ⅰ( P 0 05). Objective To elucidate the expression pattern of E-cadherin/catenin adhesion complex and its association with pathologic features in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Methods Fifty-two non-keratinizing NPC specimens with adjacent non-neoplastic mucosa were examined for E-cadherin,?-CATenin,?-CATenin.Results Abnormal expression rate of E-cadherin,?-catenin and ?-catenin in NPCs were 48.1%(25/52),32.7%(17/52) and 34.6%(18/52),respectively,whereas all adjacent non-neoplastic tissues normally expressed these proteins.Difference of expression of E-cadherin,?-catenin and ?-catenin between tumor tissues and non-cancerous tissues was statistically significant(P

Objective To investigate the genotype and allele frequencies of osteopontin gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) rs11728697and rs9138 in Zhuang populations in Guangxi ,and to compare the distribution of osteopontin polymorphisms a‐mong different races .Methods The osteopontin gene rs11728697 and rs9138 polymorphisms were detected by SNaPshot SNP gen‐otyping technique in 150 Zhuang populations in Guangxi ,the genotype and allele frequencies of osteopontin gene rs 11728697 and rs9138 polymorphisms were analyzed in Zhuang populations compared with the other four populations (HapMap‐CEU ,HapMap‐YRI ,HapMap‐JPT ,HapMap‐HCB) from HapMap database .Results The most common genotype and allele of osteopontin gene rs11728697 polymorphism in Zhuang populations in Guangxi were CC(42 .7% ) and C(62 .7% ) ,and the most common genotype and allele of osteopontin gene rs9138 polymorphism were CA (51 .3% ) and C(63 .0% ) .There were no significant differences in the gen‐otype and allele frequencies of osteopontin gene rs11728697 and rs9138 polymorphisms between male and female groups ( P >0 .05) .The genotype and allele frequencies of osteopontin gene rs11728697 polymorphism were significantly differenct compared with HapMap‐CEU ,HapMap‐JPT and HapMap‐YRI(P< 0 .05) ,but were not significantly different compared with HapMap‐HCB (P> 0 .05) .The genotype and allele frequencies of osteopontin gene rs9138 polymorphism were significantly differenct compared with HapMap‐CEU and HapMap‐YRI(P < 0 .05) ,but had no significantly different compared with HapMap‐JPT and HapMap‐HCB(P> 0 .05) .Conclusion There are significant differences in the genotype and allele frequencies of osteopontin gene rs 11728697 and rs9138 polymorphisms between Zhuang populations and other ethnic populations ,and this variation might contribute for a varie‐ty of clinical manifestation and morbidity of some osteopontin related diseases .

This study aims to compare the urate-lowering response rate of febuxostat and allopurinol in gout patient using a model-based meta-analysis. The literature search identified 22 clinical trials of gout with a total of 43 unique treatment arms that met our inclusion criteria, and a total of 6 365 gout patients were included in the study. The response rates of allopuriol and febuxostat were characterized by Tmax model and Emax model respectively, and the effect of baseline serum uric acid (sUA) and patient type on the drug effect was tested. The results showed that allopurinol can reach an average maximum response rate of 50.8% while febuxostat can reach a 100% response rate within a very short time, and the ED50 was 34.3 mg. Covariate analysis revealed that baseline sUA has a negative effect on response rate of allopurinol, and a positive effect on the predicted ED50 of febuxostat. For patients who had shown inadequate response to prior allopurinol treatment, the average response rate was about half that of the allopurinol responder patients.

OBJECTIVE To investigate vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) and cyclooxyegense-2(COX-2) expression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. METHODS The expression of COX-2 and VEGF-C were stained respectively in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues of 45 patients using immunohistochemical method,and were analyzed with clinical data. OBJECTIVE To investigate(meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus MRSA) the antibiotics resistance and curative effect of herbal Tanreqing-injection combined with vancomycin in the treatment of MRSA pneumonia.METHODS All data of microbiology about sputum culture between 2001-2007 were statistically analyzed with a retrospective method in a hospital,in order to understand the MRSA prevalence trends and their resistance.From 100 cases of MRSA pneumonia,50 cases were treated by vancomycin alone,another 50 cases were treated by Tanreqing injection plus vancomycin.RESULTS There were 3082 MRSA strains and 162(meticillin-sensitive S.aureus MSSA) strains in 3244 S.aureus strains;nosocomial infection cases accounted for 78.07% in MRSA-positive sputum samples;MRSA wasn't resistant to vancomycin,but resistant to other antibiotics.Resistance rates had a significant difference between MRSA and MSSA(P

OBJECTIVE To promote the management of nosocomial infections continuous improvement in the clinical and medical technology department.METHODS According to the regulation of nosocomial infections management,a handbook of nosocomial infections management for clinical and medical technology department was designed,and the monitors of nosocomial infection could perform real time inspection and record according require of the handbook.The department of nosocomial infections management examined the monitoring work of clinical and medical technology department every month and summarized every year,and the results were internalized to the valuation of medical quality management.RESULTS After 3 years of the usage of the handbook,the capability of the monitor groups of nosocomial infection and the quality of the all monitoring items were significantly improved;the qualified rates were all above 96.30%.CONCLUSIONS The handbook of nosocomial infections management is useful to improve the quality of nosocomial infections management in the clinical and medical technology department.

Objective To evaluate the results of endovascular intervention for infrapopliteal arterial occlusion in 40 patients. Methods There were 41 affected limbs in these 40 patients receiving 44 times of endovascular intervention for infrapopliteal arterial occlusion during Nov. 2006 and Dec. 2007. The average age was 76±6. The ABI(ankle brachial index)before intervention was 0.39±0.20 in anterior tibial artery and 0.39±0.23 in posterior tibial artery. CLI (critical limb ischemia) was 80.49% (33/41). Results The after intervention ABI increased by 0.43±0.22 (P<0.01) in anterior tibial artery and 0.43±0.25(P<0.01)in posterior tibial artery. 35 patients (36 limbs) were followed-up for (6±3) months. The limbs of Fontaine Ⅰ and Fontaine Ⅱ A were 28 (77.78%), CLI decreased to 19.44% (7/36) (P<0.01). At follow-up the ABI in anterior tibial artery was 0.63±0.22 and 0.56±0.22 in posterior tibial artery. The difference were all significant when compared with that before intervention and after intervention. The perioperative amputation rate was 0. The perioperative mortality rate was 2.5%. The total mortality rate was 15%. The limb salvage rate were 100%. Conclusion The effect of endovascular intervention for infrapopliteal arterial occlusion is satisfactory.
