Vascular dementia,an acquired, persistent syndrome of intelligent disorder, mainly caused by cerebrovascular disease is one of the main types of senile dementia. Its pathogenesis remains unclear.Brain-derived neurotrophic factor sustains multiple neuronic survival, development, differentiation, and repair following injury. It also induces and maintains the long-term potentiation of hippocampus and cortex, and changes the morphologic plasticity of hippocampal neuron by regulating hippocanoal synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity. It participates in the processes of hippocampus-dependent learning and memory, and it may play an important role in the onset and development of vascular dementia.

AIM: Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, to inspect v sual cortex physical reactions stimulated by rotating grating, and to its components. METHODS: On 1.5T MR scanner, GRE-EPI imaging sequence was carried on 9 h discover ealthy volunteers, the visual cortex response data were processed after delinearation by SPM99.RESULTS: Different components of rotating grating excited different areas of the visual cortex. Dramatic response in the central part of the occipital lobe, which was related to white light stimuli, located at primary visual cortex. Response area in bilateral Broadaman 19 areas was related to vision-motion function. And weak response area in the central part of the occipital lobe was related to shape perception.CONCLUSION: Rotating grating conclude plenty of visual information, and it excites different areas of the optic center as a stimuli. fMRI is a valuable equipment to study the physiology of visual cortex.

Objective To explore the fixation method of tibial helical plate for treatment of proximal and middle one-third of humeral fractures and evaluate the clinical outcome. Methods A review was performed on 15 patients with proximal and middle one-third of humeral fractures treated by tibial helical plate from May 2004 to February 2009. There were 10 males and five females, at age range of 19-65 years ( average 38.0 years). The surgical method was summarized and the shoulder function evaluated. Results The follow-up lasted for 7-24 months (mean 13 months) , which showed bony union in all patients, with mean union time of 4.7 months. There was no implant loosening or failure. According to Neer 's criteria, the result was excellent in seven patients and good in six, with excellence rate of 86.7%.Conclusions Open reduction and internal fixation using tibial helical plate is simple and effective for treatment of proximal and middle one-third of humeral fractures.

Objective To study the effects of propofol exposure during pregnancy on space cognitive and exploration abilities and expression of phosphorylated tau protein ( P-tau) and beta-amyloid protein[ Aβ(1-42) ] in hippocampus of the offspring. Methods Sprague-Dawley female (n=24) and male rats (n=8) of three months old were mated at the same cage at the ratio of 3:1. Pregnant rats were randomly divided into early group (group E), medium group (group M), late group (group L) and control group ( group C) , with 6 rats in each group. Groups E, M and L received propofol 80 mg · kg-1 · d-1 for 7 consecutive days. Propofol was replaced with equal volume of physiological saline in group C. Learning and memory of the 30-day offspring rats were assessed by using Morris water maze test. Then offspring rats were sacrificed to determine the expression of P-tau and Aβ(1-42) in the hippocampus by ELISA and immunohistochemistry. Results The learning and memory abilities were declined significantly in group E (51. 20±8. 11) s, group M (36. 00±6. 44) s and group L (47. 20±12. 30) s, as compared with group C (65. 60± 7. 23) s (all P<0. 05). The result of immunohistochemistry and ELISA showed that expression of Aβ(1-42) and P-tau in hippocampus was significantly higher in group M than in groups E, L and C[(immunohistochemistry: Aβ(1-42), (27. 38±5. 90) vs. (12. 65± 2. 08), (13. 79±3. 37), and (65. 60±7. 23); P-tau, (26. 35±5. 83) vs. (13. 65±3. 46), (14. 56±3. 82), and (8. 49±1. 20);ELISA:Aβ(1-42) , (88. 6±7. 43) vs. (71. 60±6. 79), (13. 79±3. 37), and (65. 80±6. 28);P-tau, (230. 13±8. 22) vs. (210. 42± 2.20), (210.95±1. 75), and (200. 65±1. 57)] (all P<0.05). Conclusion Multiple propofol injections may impair rat offspring’ s space cognitive abilities and exploration abilities, and the impairment is especially obvious in second trimester of pregnancy, which may be associated with over-expression of P-tau and Aβ(1-42) .

Objective To evaluate the dual blood supply of lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma using dualinput perfusion CT.Methods A total of 40 patients confirmed with lung cancer pathologically underwent CT perfusion (CTP) scanning. The pulmonary flow (PF),bronchial flow (BF),perfusion index (PI,PI=PF/[PF+BF])and tumor volume, location were measured and recorded by 2 experienced radiologists. The differences in CTP parameters between lung adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, the central lung cancers and peripheral lung cancers were analyzed. The correlation between the tumor volume and CTP parameters was analyzed.Interobserver agreements were assessed with intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).Results The average of PF,BF and PI of all 40 cases was (54.26± 21.07)ml/ (min · 100 ml),(64.41±22.06)ml/(min · 100 ml) and (43.38±16.07)%,respectively.Tumor histology was consistent with adenocarcinomas in 23 cases and squamous cell carcinomas in 17 cases, lung adenocarcinomas showed lower PI than that of squamous cell carcinomas (t=-2.196,P=0.034).There were 17 peripheral lung cancers and 23 central lung cancers, and the PI of the peripheral lung cancers was higher than that of the central lung cancer (t=2.305,P=0.027).No statistically significant differences were found for BF and PF between two types of lung cancers and central lung cancers and the peripheral cancers (all P>0.05).Tumor volume was negatively associated with PI (r =-0.39,P=0.01).Good agreement was found between the two observers, the ICC for BF,PF and PI was 0.97,0.93 and 0.91,respectively.Conclusion Dual-input CTP technique can be used to evaluate the differences of blood supply between different pathological types and locations of lung cancer, with PI depending both on tumor size and location.

OBJECTIVETo observe the expressions of Calbindin(CB) and Parvalbumin (PV), the two calcium-binding protein, in auditory pathway in mice of wild type C57BL/6J and kit⁺/kitW⁻ ²Bao, a kit gene mutant.
METHODSSix mutated kit gene kit⁺/kitW⁻ ²Bao mice and 6 wild type C57BL/6J (B6) mice were anaesthetized i. p. with chloral hydrate. After the mice were fixed by heart perfusion, the brains were removed and coronal sections were cut with a freezing microtome.
RESULTSWe found that wild type mice had significant expressions of PV on ventral cochlear nucleus, anterior part (AVCN), ventral cochlear nucleus, posterior part (PVCN), inferior colliculus (IC) and auditory cortex (AC). CB was expressed in wild type mice on PVCN and nucleus of the trapezoid body (Tz). The mutant of kit gene induced the less expression of PV on PVCN, IC and AC (P < 0.01), but increased the expression of Tz (P < 0.01). CB could not be observed on PVCN in mutant mice, and the expression of AC was increased( P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONCB and PV has differential expression level in auditory pathway. Since mutated kit gene can affect expression of PV on PVCN, IC, Tz and AC, as well as CB on PVCN and AC, it suggests that the mutation of kit gene can affect the advanced function of central nervous system in auditory pathway.
