OBJECTIVE:To study the effects of arsenic trioxide(As 2 O 3 )on the encoding protein expressions of nm23and P53in gastric cancer cells and to study the anti-canecer mechanism of which in the tumor.METHODS:A control group and a test group were set up.The expressions of gene coding proteinum nm23and P53of the gastric cancer cells cultured in vitro by the action of As 2 O 3 were determined by immunohistochemistry method.RESULTS:The expression levels of nm23and P53in gastric cancer cells have been lowered compared with the control group.CONCLUSION:As 2 O 3 can exert its anti-tumor effect by decreasing the expression of gene coding proteinum of nm23and P53.

Objective To evaluate imaging findings and treatment experience in central venous stenosis without a history of previous catheterization in hemodialysis patients. Methods Clinical data of 5 haemodialysis cases of central vein stenosis without a previous catheterization history in our hospital from July 2006 to July 2008 were analyzed retrospectively. Results Patients were three women and two men aged 43 to 65 years with mean age(53±8)years and all had arm swelling as the main complaint. The vascular accesses were located at the wrist in all the patients. The mean duration of the vascular accesses from the time of creation was(33.6±35.4)months.Venography showed occlusion in 2 cases and stenosis in 3 cages of central vein including 1 case of stenosis in brachiocephalic vein.1 case of stenosis beth in branchiocephalic vein and subclavian vein,1 case of stenosis in two segments of subclavian vein. The stenosis of branchiocephalic vein was fixed anterior to the tracheal and CT showed the compression of the vein by the aorta.Symptoms were resolved by the treatment of PTA.subclavian vein-contralateral subclavian vein bypass and ligation of the access. Conclusions Central venous stenosis in haemodialysis patients without a history of catheterization may be due to the intimal hyperplasia of the compression site or valve which is accelerated by the high flow of vascular access.Venography is the first choice for the diagnosis and the current management of central venous stenosis is far from being effective for the long term.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the injury stress responses caused by ischemia reperfusion and its effects on the salivary secretory function of rat submandibular glands.
METHODSAn in situ ischemia reperfusion experimental model of rat submandibular glands was developed. The rat submandibular glands were subjected to 90 min of ischemia without denervation followed by reperfusion for 1, 12, 24, and 72 h. Salivary secretion, histological changes, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and cellular apoptosis of the involved submandibular glands were detected after reperfusion.
RESULTSThe secretory function of the glands decreased at 1 and 12 h, and the saliva secretion gradually had the same value as that of the control sample 72 h after reperfusion. Increasing inflammatory cells infiltration, cellular atrophy, and tissue edema were observed especially after reperfusion for 12 h. The level of ROS and the number of apoptotic cells exhibited the same tendency, and higher ROS levels and more apoptosis cells 1 and 12 h after reperfusion were observed.
CONCLUSIONOur study suggests that ischemia reperfusion can cause a series of injury stress responses in submandibular glands, which might have an important function in the early phase dysfunction of transplanted submandibular glands.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of catheter-directed thrombolysis in the treatment of lower limb acute deep venous thrombosis(DVT). Methods One hundred and four patients with lower limb acute DVT underwent cathter-directed thrombolysis with continuous infusion of urokinase(154.27 ? 76.31 ? 104 IU). Fourteen pationts were implanted with stents for the residual stenoses. The circumferences between normal and affected limbs were measured before and after the thrombolysis. The venous patency score, the rate of patency improvement were eveluated by venography and the patients were followed up for six months. Results After thrombolysis, the venography revealed that venous patency improved in 92 patients(mean 52.42% ? 16.37%, P

Objective To study the relationship between polymorphisms of E-selectin gene and ischemic stroke (IS) in Zhuang nationality of Guangxi province. Methods The G98T polymorphism in the exon 2 and the S128R polymorphism in the exon 4 of E-selectin gene were detected by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis and DNA sequencing among 205 patients with IS of Zhuang nationality in Guangxi and 210 healthy controls. The serum level of E-selectin was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results IS group showed significantly higher serum levels of E-selectin than control group (P0.05). Conclusion E-selectin S128R polymorphism was associated with IS, and R allele may be a genetic risk factor of IS among Guangxi Zhuang natioalities, in whom the E-selectin SR genotype carriers maybe increase the risk of ischemic stroke by enhancing the E-selectin expression.

The expression of heat shock proteins(HSPs) can protect against acute lung injury(ALI).However,HSPs are restrained from clinical application due to the toxicity of most of the former inductors.Glutamine, which also has the ability to induce the expression of HSPs,can protect against ALI and sepsis, and may serve as a candidate for clinical application.

Objective To investigate the in vivo effects of glutamine(Gln) on inflammatory cytokine release in murine peritoneal macrophages during sepsis. Methods Sixty Kunming mice were randomly divided into sham-operation group(Sham group,n=20),operation control group(Con group,n=20) and Gln-treatment group(Gln group,n=20).Sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture in Gln group and Con group, and Gln(0.75 g/kg) or saline was immediately administered via single tail vein injection.Serum was collected and macrophages were harvested from peritoneal lavage at 6 h in these three groups.Intracellular and serum cytokines of tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?),interleukin(IL)-6 and IL-10 were detected by ELISA.The expression of TNF-? mRNA in macrophages was analyzed by RT-PCR,and the expression of heat shock protein(HSP) 72 in macrophages was evaluated by Western blotting. Results Gln group demonstrated significantly lower intracellular TNF-? and IL-6 levels than Con group(P0.05).The serum TNF-? level was significantly lower in Gln group than in Con group(P

Objective To investigate the effects of health-education on the behaviors of following doctor's instructions of the patients receiving anticoagulation after valve replacement. MethodsThirty patients who received anticoagulation after valve replacement took part in this study. Health-education for knowledge of anticoagulation after valve replacement was implemented among these patients, and questionnaires investigating compliance for medication were subjected to all cases after their discharge of ward. The awareness of knowledge of anticoagulation was compared between patients of pre- and post-health-education,and the compliance of medication after discharge was also analyzed. ResultsHealth education improves the patient's understanding and knowledge about anticoagulation and also improves their attention to the doctor's instructions. Conclusion Health-education can increase the awareness of the knowledge of anticoagulation and the compliance among patients.

Objective To discuss causes and corresponding prevention for groin pain occurred early after total hip arthroplasty(THA).Methods A retrospective study was done on 189 cases(193 hips)treated with THA including unilateral procedures in 185 hips and bilateral procedures in eight hips to analyze common causes for early groin pain. Results Groin pain was found in 9.3% hips(18/ 193)during hospital stay, including 1.6%(3 cases)with deep infection,1.6%(3 cases)with incision infection,1%(2 cases)with posterior dislocation,4.1%(8 cases)with leg lengthening and 1%(2 cases)with hematoma. Conclusions Despite of the numerous diagnostic alternatives available to the orthopedic surgeon, detailed history, careful physical examination, necessary laboratory and imaging stud- ies can contribute to a correct determination of causes for groin pain.Meanwhile, appropriate indication, accurate preoperative radiographic measurement, intraoperative standardized surgical procedures and per- fect rehabilitation are necessary to avoid complications.
