AIM:Scopolamine blocks cholinergic transmission and impairs learning and memory in mice. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the memory-improving properties of curcumin on scopolamine-induced memory im-pairment in mice.METHODS:The mice of memory impairment were induced by scopolamine.Step down test and Morris water maze test were used to observe the earning and memory ability in curcumin-treated ice.Biochemical assessments of AChE,MDA,and GSH-Px levels in brains were performed.RESULTS:Oral administration of curcumin ignificantly reduced the numbers of step-down rrors(P<0.05)and prolonged the step-down latency induced by scopolamine(P<0.05).The escape latency time in mice treated with curcumin Was remarkably educed compared to that in scopolamine group by Morris water maze test(P<0.05).After the platform was removed, the total time that the mice swam in the tar-get quadrant Was also longer in curcumin group than that in model group(P<0.05).The data also indicated that curcumin significantly inhibited AChE ctivity(P<0.01)and prevented oxidative stress characterized by the significant reduction in MDA content and the significant increase in GSH-Px activities in the brain(P<0.01).CONCLUSl0N:Curcumin in-duces cognitive improvement by enhancing the function of cholinergic system and its antioxidant activity.

Aim To investigate the effects of perindopril, an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, on mean pulmonary arterial pressure(mPAP) and pulmonary vascular remodeling. Methods Using the normobaric hypoxia-hypercapnia rat model, the changes of plasma angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang Ⅱ), mPAP and ultrastructure of pulmonary arteriolar wall were observed after administration of perindopril. Results The mPAP and AngⅡ were significantly greater and the ultrastructure of the small lung vessels had a more obvious change in the 4 weeks hypoxia-hypercapnia group than those in the control group. It was also found that perindopril decreased AngⅡ, declined mPAP and ameliorated vascular ultrastructure change. But the change of ultrastructure was similar in the 8 weeks hypoxia-hypercapnia group and perindopril treatment group. Conclusion It is suggested that chronic hypoxia-hypercapnia should induce the remodeling of pulmonary arteriolar structure via AngⅡ and that perindopril could ease pulmonary vascular remodeling in early stage.

Objective To compare the serum levels of transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta 1,bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-4 in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and RA with interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD).Methods Twenty-eight RA-ILD patients,32 patients with RA but without ILD and 20 normal controls were enrolled. The RA-ILD group was further divided into early group and late group. All the observed subjects were analyzed using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the determination of serum TGF-β1 and BMP-4 levels. The relationship between the serum levels of TGF-β1,BMP-4 and laboratory examinations were investigated.Comparisions between groups were tested by one-way ANOVA analysis and ttest.Correlation of indexs were observed by Spearman method. Results Patients in the RA-ILD group were older than RA group in disease onset age,in addition, patients with ILD had better joint function and higher serum rheumatoid factor titers. The occurrence time of interstitial lung disease was 2-6 years after the onset of arthritis, with an average time of (3.0±1.2) years. The TGF-β1 levels in the RA-ILD group were slightly higher, but not statistically significant than other groups (P>0.05).The TGF-β1 serum levels in the early RA-ILD patients were significantly increased than those of the late RA-ILD group and the RA group.BMP-4 levels in patients with RA-ILD group were less than RA without ILD group and healthy control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).BMP-4 level in early RA-ILD group was significantly decreased than those of the late RA-ILD group and RA group. No correlation between the serum BMP-4,TGF-β1 level (P>0.05) no assay result correlated with laboratory parameters including ESR,CRP,RF and anti-CCP antibodies (P>0.05).Conclusion TGF-β1 serum levels are increased and BMP-4 levels are decreased in early RA-ILD patients. The serum levels of TGF-β1 and BMP-4 may be indicatior for asymptomatic ILD and reflect disease progression.

Based on the ecological and economic problems in Good Agriculture Practice (GAP) of Chinese material medica, we introduced the origin, concept, features and operative technology of eco-agriculture worldwide, emphasizing its modes on different biological levels of landscape, ecosystem, community, population, individual and gene in China. And on this basis, we analyzed the background and current situation of eco-agriculture of Chinese materia medica, and proposed its development ideas and key tasks, including: (1) Analysis and planning of the production pattern of Chinese material medica national wide. (2) Typical features extraction of regional agriculture of Chinese materia medica. (3) Investigation of the interaction and its mechanism between typical Chinese materia medica in each region and the micro-ecology of rhizosphere soil. (4) Study on technology of eco-agriculture of Chinese materia medica. (5) Extraction and solidification of eco-agriculture modes of Chinese materia medica. (6) Study on the theory of eco-agriculture of Chinese materia medica. Also we pointed out that GAP and eco-agriculture of Chinese material medica are both different and relative, but they are not contradictory with their own features. It is an irresistible trend to promote eco-agriculture in the GAP of Chinese material medica and coordinate ecological and economic development.

Objective To evaluate the role of (99)Tc(m)-MDP SPECT/CT bone fusion imaging in diagnosis and treatment strategy establishment of patients with bone metastatic malignancy. Methods Retrospective study was carried out on 66 patients (55 patients with primary malignant tumors,11 patients with primary benign bone disease) chosen from 117 patients who had undergone whole body bone scintigraphy and SPECT/CT fusion imaging examination.Comparison was carried out on diagnostic efficacy for bone metastases and changes of treatment between SPECT/CT fusion imaging and other anatomical imaging (CT and/or MR).Cases excluded are extensive bone metastases and no final diagnosis of patients. Results For diagnosis of patient with bone metastasis and bone metastasis lesion, the sensitivity of SPECT/CT fusion imaging was (90.62%,93.88%),specificity (79.41%,89.47%) and accuracy (84.84%,90.97%),while sensitivity of simple anatomical imaging was (59.38%,51.02%),specificity (94.11%,94.73%) and accuracy (77.27%,79.86%),with a significant difference (P < 0.05).SPECT/CT fusion imaging changed 30.31% (20/66) the patient's treatment plan, while 16.67% (11/66) for simple anatomical imaging, with a significant difference (P < 0.05).Conclusions SPECT/CT fusion imaging could increase the accuracy of diagnosis of bone metastases and have an important role in establishing the treatment strategy.
