Osteoclasts are derived from pluripotent stem cells in bone marrow and spleen. They play a critical role in inflammation-induced bone loss and joint destruction because in the absence of them, bone de- struction does not occur even when inflammation exists.Synovioblasts in an inflamed joint can secrete numerous inflammatory factors, including tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-?)and interleukin-1(IL-1)which not only induce inflammatory reactions but also elevate osteoclast formation and function indirectly or directly through promoting RANKL expression. In this wdy the inflammatory reactions are associated with bone loss and destruction. In this article,we focus on the recent progress in study of TNF-?,IL-1 and osteoclast-target therapies in management of osteoclast-mediated inflammatory bone loss.TNF-?promotes differentiation of osteoclast precursor cells in the peripheral blood and spleen, which causes a marked increase in mature osteoclasts in a diseased joint. However, IL-I supports osteoblast survival and regulates the recombination of osteoclast cytoskeleton, which further stimulates bone resorption.Since osteoclast-target therapies may inhibit osteoclast formation and function, they are becoming more and more important for inflammation-induced bone loss and joint destruction.

Under indoors simulating natural growing condition, the 4th-instar Mythimna separata larvae were fed by using poi- son leaf disk method. The effect of total ginsenosides on the protective enzymes (PPO, T-SOD, CAT and POD) of M. separata larvae was studied. The total ginsenosides could influence the protective enzymes of 4th-instar M. separata larvae significantly. After treated by total ginsenosides, the PPO activities increased firstly then decreased, and tended to equilibrium, and reached the maximum after 48 h. Furthermore, the total ginsenosides disturbed the dynamic balance of SOD, CAT and POD of M. separata larvae, and the yield of O2-* speeded. The results suggest that the total ginsenosides influence the protective enzymes of 4th-instar M. separata larvae, and disturb the original dynamic balance of protective enzymes. Consequently the insect suffers from the harm of O2-*.

BACKGROUND:The unstable distal radius fractures are clinical y treated with external fixation, open reduction and internal fixation at present. These two methods have their advantages and disadvantages. OBJECTIVE:To compare the radiological, clinical and functional outcomes of two groups of patients treated by bridging external fixation combined with Kirschner wire fixation versus volar locked plate for a displaced fracture of the distal radius. METHODS:We col ected 68 cases of unstable distal radius fractures in the Department of Reparative and Reconstructive Surgery, First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, China from October 2014 to April 2016. They were randomly assigned to two groups, with 34 in each group. Patients in the external fixation group received external fixator and Kirschner wire. Patients in the internal fixation group received volar locked plate. In the fol ow-up, outcomes were assessed by radiographic parameters, function parameters, and Cooney functional score between both groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) Al patients were fol owed up. External fixation group was fol owed up for 12-16 months. Internal fixation group was fol owed up for 13-15 months. X-rays showed al fractures healed. (2) At 3 months postoperatively, significant differences in pronation, supination, extension and radial deviation were detected between the two groups (P<0.05), and the internal fixation had more advantages. At 6 months, these differences had become reduced. The extension of the wrist and pronation were stil better in the internal fixation group. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups between preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively (P>0.05). The range of motion of the wrist was better in the internal fixation group, but no significant difference in the grip strength was determined between the two groups at any time points in 1-year fol ow-up. (3) These results demonstrated that compared with the external fixation, volar locked plate fixation showed better early recovery postoperatively. With time prolonged, clinical outcomes of both repair methods tended to be consistent.

This paper is in order to study the anti-feeding and growth inhibition activity of toatal ginsenoside of ginseng stems and leaves against 4th-instar Mythimna separata larvae. Simulating natural growing condition indoors, on the base, To study the anti-feeding and growth inhibition activity of toatal ginsenoside against 4th-instar M. separata larvae by leaf disc test. The toatal ginsenoside appeared to be of significant antifeeding activity against 4th-instar M. separata larvae. The 4th-instar M. separata larvae fed on the leaves of Sorghum bicolor treated with 20, 10, 5 g · L(-1) toatal ginsenoside. At 8 h, non-selective anti-feeding rate were 88.67%, 64.40% and 47.36%, and selective anti-feeding rate were 62.49% , 44.29% and 34.19%; Compared with the photographic, The toatal ginsenoside conld make the development period had prolonged 13h in treated group. The toatal ginsenoside had significant inhibition effect on feeding and growth and development against 4th-instar M. separata larvae, and inhibition effect increases as the increase of concentration ginsenoside.

Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae 2008;30(6):672-676
OBJECTIVETo study the characteristics of the normal subjects with postural sway test and discuss the value of postural sway test in the diagnosis of dizzy patients.
METHODSTotally 112 normal subjects, 72 patients with peripheral vertigo, and 30 patients with central vertigo were examined using a stabilometer (EAB-100, Anima Co., Japan). Items include patterns, length of locus, envelope area, deflection average center displacement, and romberg rate were recorded and compared.
RESULTSThe postural sway was classified into the following five patterns: centripetal, forward and backward, right and left, diffuse, and multicentric. Centripetal pattern was the most prominent figure pattern in the normal subjects, while diffuse pattern was the most prominent figure pattern in the patients with central vertigo. When the normal subjects closed their eyes, age was linearly correlated with the length of locus, envelope area, rectangel area, and unit area path length (P < 0.05). Sex was not correlated to all of these parameters. The length of locus and envelope area in the patient groups were significantly increased when compared with the normal subjects (P < 0.0167). Romberg rate was not significantly different between the patients and the normal subjects.
CONCLUSIONSThe pattern of postural sway is useful for the diagnosis of vertigo. Age is an important factor that affects the balance function. Sex seems has no influence. Visual input plays an important role in maintaining postural balance. Stabilometer is a useful tool for evaluating balance function, and postural sway test may be a valuable assistant examination.
