Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of interactive scalp acupuncture therapy for autism spectrum disorders (ASD).Methods Eighty-three ASD patients were randomized to a treatment group (43 cases) and a control group (40 cases).The treatment group received interactive scalp acupuncture therapy (scalp acupuncture first and music education therapy during needle retention) and the control group,music education therapy alone.The Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) score,the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) score and the Gesell Development Quotient (DQ) scores were recorded in the two groups before and after treatment.Results There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the CARS,ABC and DQ (social adaptation and individual sociality) scores in both groups (P＜ 0.01).There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the CARS,ABC and DQ scores between the treatment and control groups (P＜0.05).Conclusion Interactive scalp acupuncture therapy plus music education therapy can relieve the clinical symptoms and improve social and cognitive abilities in ASD patients.

To ensure the quality and safety of Panax notoginseng, a method for the simultaneous determination of 10 mycotoxins in Panax notoginseng was developed using ultra performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). The sample was extracted with acetonitrile and purified by HLB multifunction cleanup column. The separation was performed on a Phenomenex Kinetex XB-C18 column by gradient elution using methanol and 5 mmol·L(-1) ammonium acetate as mobile phase. The targeted compounds were detected in MRM mode by mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI) source operated in both positive and negative ionization modes. The linear relationships of the 10 mycotoxins were good in their respective linear ranges. The correlation coefficients (r) ranged from 0.9981 to 1.0000. The LOQs of the 10 mycotoxins were between 0.15 and 8.6 μg·kg(-1). The average recoveries ranged from 73.8% to 107.0% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 0.10%-10.9%. The results demonstrated that the proposed method was sensitive and accurate, and suitable for the mycotoxins quantification in Panax notoginseng.

Objective To investigate the effect of breviscapine on lung injury in children undergoing open heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB).Methods Forty-five ASA Ⅱ or Ⅲ children aged 3-65 months weighing 5-21 kg undergoing open heart surgery with CPB were randomly assigned to 3 groups ( n =15 each):control group (group C),low dose breviscapine group (group B1 ) and high dose breviscapine group (group B2).Normal saline 15 ml(group C),breviscapine 0.5 mg/kg (group B1 )or 1.0 mg/kg(group B2 ) were injected iv over 30min after anesthesia induction.Blood samples were taken before operation ( T0 ),at 30 min and 1 h of aortic unclamping (T1,T2 ),at 3 h and 6 h after operation (T3,T4 ) for determination of plasma procalcitonin (PCT)and neutrophil elastase(NE) concentrations.PaO2 and PaCO2 were recorded at T0,T3,T4 for caculation of oxygenation index (OI) and alveolo-arterial oxygen partial pressure difference (PA-a O2 ).Results There were no significant differences in OI and PA-a O2 among the 3 groups( P ＞ 0.05).Plasma concentration of PCT was higher at T1～4in 3 groups,and plasma concentration of NE was higher at T1 in group C than that at T0 ( P ＜ 0.01 ).Plasma concentrations of PCT and NE were lower in groups B1 and B2 than in group C ( P ＜ 0.01).There were no significant differences in plasma concentrations of PCT and NE between groups B1 and B2 ( P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Breviscapine(0.5,1 mg/kg) can inhibite systemic inflammatory response and attenuate lung injury in children undergoing open heart surgery with CPB.

Aim To determine potential biomarkers contributed to occurrence, development and recovery of ethanol-induced liver injury in rat and elucidate hepatoprotective effect of Yin Chen Hao Tang based on metabonomic investigation. Methods A UPLC-Q-TOF/MS based metabonomic method was developed for investigating trajectory change and inter-relationship of urinary metabolome of rats with different treatments. Results Four potential biomarkers were determined which contributed to occurrence, development and recovery of ethanol-induced liver injury in rat, and Yin Chen Hao Tang could significantly recover trajectory change in disorder. Conclusion The developed method was successfully applied to investigate ethanol-induced liver injury in rat, and also hepatoprotective effect of Yin Chen Hao Tang was elucidated.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of medication-based acupuncture on osteoporotic compression fracture and explore clinical effective intervention in the patients. Method Fifty-six patients were randomized to acupuncture-medicine and medicine groups, 28 cases each. The clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated after treatment. Bone density, BGP and IL-6 were measured before and after treatment. Result BGP and IL-6 decreased significantly in the two groups after treatment compared with before (P<0.01) and decreased more in the acupuncture-medicine group than in the medicine group (P<0.05). BMD increased significantly in the acupuncture-medicine group after treatment compared with before (P<0.05) and did not increased significantly in the medicine group after treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion Warm needling moxibustion plus medication is effective than medication alone in treating osteoporotic compression fracture. It can decrease serum BGP and IL-6 contents and relieve the clinical symptoms in the patients. Acupuncture plus medicine not only produces a marked analgesic effect but also has a positive role in preventing the aggravation of osteoporosis and avoiding second fracture.

AIM:To evaluate the effect of curcumin on impaired learning-memory ability and the expression of high mobility group box protein 1 ( HMGB1 ) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase ( JNK ) in a rat model of Alzheimer disease (AD).METHODS:Male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 250~270 g, were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=9):blank control group (group A), model group (group B), curcumin treatment group (group C, curcumin injected intraper-itoneally at 100 mg· kg-1· d-1 for 6 consecutive days) and solvent control group (group D).The rats of AD model were induced by injection of ibotenic acid into the nucleus basalis of Meynert ( NBM) bilaterally.All rats were trained in Morris maze to assess the ability of learning and memory .The expression of HMGB1 and JNK in the hippocampus was detected by the methods of immunohistochemistry and Western blotting .RESULTS:Compared with group A , the average escape laten-cy (AEL) in groups B and D were obviously longer (P<0.05), while AEL in group C in the 5th and 6th days were signif-icantly shorter (P<0.05).The releases of HMGB1 in the CA1 and CA3 areas in groups B and D from the nucleus were a-bundant.Compared with groups B and D , HMGB1 in hippocampal CA1 and CA3 areas in group C secreted out of the nu-cleus decreased obviously (P<0.05).No significant difference of the release of HMGB1 between group A and group C was observed (P>0.05).No significant difference in the expression of HMGB1 in the hippocampus among the 4 groups was found (P>0.05).However, compared with groups B and D , the expression of JNK in group C was decreased obvi-ously (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Curcumin significantly improves the learning and memory ability of AD rats .The probable mechanisms may be related to inhibiting the release of HMGB 1 from the nucleus of hippocampal neurons and de-creasing the expression of JNK in the hippocampus .

Objective To investigate the effect of progressive neurological deterioration ( PND) of cerebral watershed infarction on early prognosis. Methods The consecutive patients with cerebral watershed infarction admitted in the Department of Neurology,Jinling Hospital,Nanjing University School of Medicine and their cerebral watershed infarctions confirmed by the imaging examination from March 2009 to March 2014 were enrolled. The clinical features, laboratory indicators and imaging features of internal watershed infarction,cortical-type watershed infarction,and mixed watershed infarction were identified and analyzed. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale was used to score neurological deficit. The modified Rankin scale ( mRS) was used to score the prognosis of patients. Single factor analysis was used to compare the differences between the groups. At the same time,the correlation between PND and poor prognosis of cerebral watershed infarction at day 90 was analyzed by multivariable Logistic regression analysis. Results A total of 89 patients with cerebral watershed infarction were enrolled,including 43 cortical-type watershed infarctions,36 internal watershed infarctions, and 10 mixed watershed infarctions. Single factor analysis indicated that the incidences of PND of internal watershed infarction and mixed watershed infarction were significantly higher than the cortical-type watershed infarction (36. 1% [n=13],50. 0% [n=5], and 16. 3% [n=7],respectively;P=0. 018). At day 90,28 patients had poor prognosis,and mRS was (3.4±1. 0) scores at day 90. There was significant difference in the types of infarction between the patients with poor prognosis and patients with good prognosis (P<0. 05). In patients with poor prognosis, most of them were internal watershed infarctions,accounting for 50. 0% (14/28),while in patients with good prognosis,most of them were cortical-type watershed infarctions(57. 4% [35/61]). The incidence of PND in patients with poor prognosis was significantly higher than that in patients with good prognosis (57.1% [16/28] vs. 14. 8% [9/61];P<0. 05). The result of multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjustment for confounding factor, PND was independently associated with the poor prognosis of cerebral watershed infarction at day 90 (OR 6. 969,95%CI 2. 451-19. 869;P<0. 01). Conclusion Compared with the cortical-type watershed infarction, the patients with internal watershed infarction is more prone to have PND, and PND is independently correlate with the poor prognosis at day 90.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) in surgical treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture in the elderly.Methods From March 2007 to February 2013,210 cases (100 males and 110 females;55-91 years of age,mean 72.5 years) of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture were treated with PKP.Single-segment fracture was observed in 180 cases,two-segment fracture in 20 cases and three-segment fracture in 10 cases.Lesion involved in 250 vertebrae located in the T6-L5 segment.Bone cement injected into each vertebra was 3-5 ml (mean,4 ml).Treatment effects were assessed with vertebral height,Cobb angle and visual analogue score (VAS).Results At the follow-up of 6-15 months (mean 11 months),thoracic back pain significantly alleviated or disappeared.After operation,improvements were observed in VAS [(8.7 ± 1.2) points vs (2.6 ±0.7) points],anterior vertebral height loss [(11.0 ±3.2) mm vs(5.5 ± 0.8) mm],central vertebral height loss [(8.6 ± 1.1)mm vs (3.3 ± 1.0) mm],and Cobb angle [(29.8 ± 4.5) ° vs (16.7 ± 3.4) °] (P ＜ 0.01).Four patients appeared no pain or numbness in lower limbs although cement leak into disc.Whereas two patients had lower extremity nerve irritation because of cement leak into the spinal canal and recovered after symptomatic treatment.Conclusion PKP is an effective method for treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture in the elderly,for it can rebuild vertebral height,increase vertebral rigidity as well as stability and relieve thoracic back pain.

Objective To observe and analyze the effect of B. Adolescentis and L. Acidophilus on the proportion of Th cell Th1/Th2 in peripheral blood of UC-mice in acute stage and recovery stage. Method 40 BABL/c mice were induced by 3% DSS water for 7 clays free drinking and then with distilled water for 10 days. They were randomly allocated in 4 groups: NS group, SASP group, BF0624 group and LT0637 group, also the fifth group-10 normal animals. The blood of mice were collected by removing their eyes at day 8 and day 18, and then the mononuclear cells were iso]atecl. The proportion of Th1/Th2 was analyze through flow eytometry,hy labeling the specific antibody ot Th cellular membrane with the CD4 antibody, and the cytoplastie antigen of Thl or Th2 with IIA antibody or IF'N-γ antibody. Result The proportion of Th1/Th2 in normal mouse was 0. 84 -0. 94,and it raised up in DSS-mice at both acute stage and recovery stage. It decreased unequally after 7 or 17 days'B, adoleseentis, L. Acidophilus and SASP treatment, but that of all three groups were lower than NS group (2.21±0. 83). Even the proportion got close to the normal animals after 17 days'L. Acidophilus -treated. Conclusion The proportion of Thl/Th2 increased at the acute stage and recovery stage of DSS-mice. Both B. Adoleseentis and L. Acidophilus had more effective than SASP on decreasing the proportion of Th1/Th2 at two stages,ospecially L. Acidophilus.
