The mechanism of long chain non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is diverse. LncRNA can regulate the expression of genes at multiple levels and is closely related to some pathological process, such as tumor formation, viral replication, inflammatory damage, etc. The abnormal expression of lncRNA is involved in the patho-physiological changes of the disease, and plays a key role in many links, such as the stability of mRNA, the regulation of translation level, protein transport, RNA processing and modification, and so on. The development of sepsis inflammatory injury is a complex process involving multiple genes and pathways, in which the abnormal structure and expression of many encoding genes or non-coding genes exist. This paper review the research progress on lncRNA in the regulation of chondriokinesis, pro-inflammatory cytokines, calcium ion transport, nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) in signal pathway and other inflammatory lesions, which may provide a new method for the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis.

Virologica Sinica 2007;22(1):14-20
Hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection is a severe health problem in the world. However, there is still not a satisfactory therapeutic strategy for the HBV infection. To search for new anti-HBV agents with higher efficacy and less side-effects,the inhibitory activities of traditional Chinese medicine Rheum palmatum L.ethanol extract(RPE) against HBV replication were investigated in this study.Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR) was employed to analyze the inhibitory activity of RPE against HBV-DNA replication in a stable HBV-producing cell line HepAD38; the expression levels of HBV surface antigen(HBsAg) and e antigen(HBeAg) were also determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) after RPE treatment.RPE could dose-dependently inhibit the production of HBV-DNA and HBsAg.The concentration of 50% inhibition(IC50) was calculated at 209.63,252.53 μg/mL,respectively.However,its inhibitory activity against HBeAg expression was slight even at high concentrations.RPE had a weak cytotoxic effect on HepAD38 cells(CC50 = 1 640 μg/mL) and the selectivity index(SI) was calculated at 7.82.Compared with two anthraquinone derivatives emodin and rhein,RPE showed higher ability of anti-HBV and weaker cytotoxicity. So Rheum palmatum L.might possess other functional agents which could effectively inhibit HBV-DNA replication and HBsAg expression.Further purification of the active agents, identification and modification of their structures to improve the efficacy and decrease the cytotoxicity are required.

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of extracorporeal shock wave combined with orthopaedic insole on plantar fasciitis. Methods: A total of 153 plantar with plantar fasciitis were randomly divided into a combined group (n=51), an extracorporeal shock wave group (n=53) and an orthopaedic group (n=49). The combined group received treatment of both extracorporeal shock wave and orthopaedic insole while the extracorporeal shock wave or the orthopaedic group only received the treatment of extracorporeal shock wave or orthopaedic insole. The therapeutic parameters such as visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, continued walking time and thickness of the plantar fascia were monitored before and atf er the treatment for 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months, respectively. Results: The VAS scores in the 3 groups were all reduced after the treatment compared with the corresponding scores before the therapy (P<0.05). hTe VAS score in the extracorporeal shock wave group was greater than that in the orthopedic group atfer the treatment for 2 weeks. hTe VAS score in the combined group was smaller than that in the orthopedic group atfer the treatment for 2 weeks and 3 months (P<0.05). hTe VAS scores in the orthopedic group and the combined group were smaller than those in the extracorporeal shock wave group after the treatment for 1 month or 3 months (P<0.05). The continued walking time and thickness of the plantar fascia was improved after the treatment (P<0.05). hTe cure rate and total effective rate in the combination group were obviously greater than those in the two other groups. hTe cure rate in the orthopedic group was greater than that in the extracorporeal shock wave group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Extracorporeal shock wave combined with orthopaedic insole therapy is an effective method to treat plantar fasciitis. It is recommended to spread in clinic.
