1.Advance in studies on effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma in relieving purgative activity of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma.
China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2015;40(4):577-581
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, as a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely applied in clinic. Its major purgative constituent is anthraquinones, which are believed to be a toxic ingredient. Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma has been reputed as the best alexipharmic to moderate medicine natures. In this paper, the effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma in relieving purgative activity of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma was studied in two aspects--the boiling process and intestinal metabolism; Studies on combined administration of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma in recent years were summarized according to chemical constituent, intestinal flora, I/II phase metabolism and drug transport. However, the material basis and mechanism for their compatibility remain unclear, further studies will be made in the future.

Journal of Clinical Pediatrics 2014;(3):232-234
Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of 99mTc-EC dynamic renography for renal scars in children with urinary tract infection. Methods The 99mTc-EC and 99mTc-DMSA renographic results of 67 children diagnosed with urinary tract infection were retrospectively studied. In comparison with 99mTc-DMSA cortical images, the value of 99mTc-EC dynamic renogra-phy for the diagnosis of urinary tract infection, hydronephrosis and renal scars was analyzed. Results The sensitivity and speci-ficity of the initial 2 minutes summed images in the 99mTc-EC images for the diagnosis of renal scars was 80.28%and 88.89%re-spectively, and the likelihood ratio was 7.23. Renal scars were more likely to be formed in patients with obstructed upper urinary tracts, as compared with patients with unobstructed upper urinary tracts and unsmooth upper urinary tracts (P<0.05). The inci-dence of renal scar formation was not significantly different among groups with hydronephrosis of varying degrees (P>0.05). Conclusions For children with urinary tract infection, the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of the initial summed images of 99mTc-EC dynamic renography are high. Furthermore, the excretion of upper urinary tract showed by 99mTc-EC dynamic renogra-phy is valuable for the diagnosis of renal scars.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on the secretory function of islet cells in rabbits.MethodsTwenty adult New Zealand white rabbits of both sexes, weighing 2.5-3.0kg,were randomly divided into 2 groups ( n =10 each):sham operation group (group S) and CPB group. The rabbits were anesthetized with 3% pentobarbital sodium 30 mg/kg.Blood samples were collected from the left femoral artery at 5 min after anesthesia (T1),immediately before CPB (T2 ),immediately after aortic clamping (T3 ),and at 5,35 and 75 min after aortic unclamping (T4-6) in the two groups for determination of levels of blood glucose, insulin and glucagons.Insulin resistance index was calculated.ResultsCompared with group S,the blood glucose concentration and levels of insulin and glucagons and insulin resistance index at T3-6 were significantly increased in group CPB ( P < 0.05).ConclusionAlthough increase in blood glucose enhances the secretion of insulin in islet β cells, hyperglycemia cannot be compensated completely by the increased insulin during CPB in rabbits. The increase in blood glucose may be related to islet α cell resistance.

OBJECTIVE: To improve the formula and the preparation method of ZnO Lotion so as to make it more adaptable to the clinical needs. METHODS: Adjust the previous dosage of menthol and ethanol and the preparation method was shifted to wet-sifting from trituration. RESULTS: The improved preparation was more exquisite and more stable in quality yet with less irritation. And the improved preparation method is more convenient in operation. CONCLUSION: The improved formula and improved preparation method are worth to be widely used.

Objective:To study the influence of morphine on the expression of synaptophysin(SYN)and synapse structure in mice hippocampus,so as to provide pathological evidence for studying the development and treatment of chronic morphine intoxication, addiction and abstinence symptoms of morphine. Methods:Twenty mice were evenly randomized into control group and experiment group.Mice in control group were injected with normal saline(0.1 ml daily)and those in experimental group were injected with morphine(0.1 ml,1 mg daily).Thirty days later the mice in 2 groups were killed and their brain tissues were harvested and made into slices, stained with immunohistochemical techniques(SP)and photographed under the light microscope. The images were analyzed with the image analytical system and the data were statistically analyzed. Results:In the control group, positive staining of SYN was found in the entorhinal area, subiculum, stratum plextiforme, polymorphic layer of gyrus dentatus, stratum oriens, and stratum radiatum of hippocampus;weak positive staining of SYN was noticed in the stratum lacunosum-moleculare of hippocampus;positive staining of SYN was also found the membrane of pyramidal cells and granule cells, with the mean gray scale value of the hippocampal structure being 132.84?8.67.Positively stained neurons was also found in the entorhinal area and the subiculum, with a intensity of(7.80?1.03)/ mm~2.In the experiment group, the suhiculum and polymorphic layers of gyrus dentatus were positively stained for SYN;the entorhinal area, stratum oriens, stratum radiatum and stratum lacunosum-moleculare of hippocampus were strongly positive of SYN;the membrane of pyramidal cells and granule ceils were also strongly positive of SYN,with the mean gray scale value of the hippocampal structure being 116.27?5.70.Strongly stained neurons were also found in the entorhinal area and the subiculum, with the intensity being(11.90?1.45)/mm~2.The number of SYN positive neurons and the intensity of SYN in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group(P

Objective To investigate the effect of Glutamine (Gln) on heat stress-induced dysfunction of intestinal epithelial barrier. Methods Human intestinal epithelial Caco-2 cells were pre-incubated with Gln for 24h and then exposed to heat 43℃ for 1h. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) was used to detect the cellular proliferation with various concentrations of Gln and choose an optimum concentration for subsequent experiments. The barrier integrity was measured by transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) permeability. Levels of tight junction protein occludin and ZO-1 were analyzed by Western blotting. Cytoskeleton using Coomassie blue staining was observed by microscopy. Results At 0.7mmol/L concentration, Gln showed the most effective cell proliferation compared with other concentration groups (P<0.05). Therefore, 0.7mmol/L Gln was used as effective concentration in following experiments. Gln attenuated the TEER decrease and impairment of intestinal permeability induced by heat exposure compared with 43℃ group (P<0.01). The expressions of occludin and ZO-1 were significantly elevated by pretreatment with Gln. The distortion of cytoskeleton was also effectively prevented. Conclusion 0.7mmol/L Gln is potentially beneficial for protecting against heat stress-induced permeability dysfunction and epithelial barrier damage.
