Cancer stem cells is a small fraction of cells exist in cancers and own the same characteristics of stem cells. It has recently been shown that cancer stem cells in some tumours contain lower reactive oxygen species(ROS) levels and enhanced ROS defence radioresistance. The DNA damage induced by p53 tumor suppressor protein is associated with self cancer stem cells. We have reviewed the biological characteristics including self- renewal, drug resistance, heterogeneity and so on. As to the genesis of the cancer stem cells,some researchers believe that they arise from normal adult stem cells, progenitor cells or mutation of somatic cells, while others consider that cancer stem cells are derived from cell fusion and so on.

OBJECTIVE:To prepare chlorphenamine cream,establish its quality control and observe its clinical therapeutic effect.METHODS:Chlorphenamine cream was prepared by emulsification,the content was determined by UV spectrophotom?etry and the stability of which was observed by the initial average rate method.RESULTS:The linear range of chlorphenamine was10～30?g/ml(r=0.9999);the average recovery rate was101.25%,RSD=1.28%;the total effective rate in the clinical application was97.66%.CONCLUSION:The cream is stable in quality and its therapeutic effect is reliable and safe.

Objective To investigate the etiology and prognostic factors of acute kidney injury (AKI) in pediatric patients . Methods The clinical data of children patients with AKI in this hospital ,including the clinical features ,causes and outcomes ,were retrospectively analyzed .The relationship between the risk factors and prognosis was analyzed .Results Infants were dominated by the prerenal factors and the other age groups were dominated by the renal factors .The univariate analysis revealed that the AKI stage ,etiology ,mechanical ventilation ,sepsis/septic shock ,MODS ,acidosis ,creatinine initial value ,creatinine peak value and serum potassium were the factors affecting prognosis .The Logistic regression analysis showed that mechanical ventilation ,MODS and sep-sis/septic shock were the independent risk factors affecting prognosis .Conclusion The etiology of AKI in children is diverse and its distribution has the age characteristics .Mechanical ventilation ,MODS and sepsis/septic shock are the independent risk factors af-fecting prognosis .The early diagnosis and the active treatment conduces to improve prognosis .

Objective To choose a best cultivar by comparing the content of total flavonoid and naringin between different cultivars of Citrus grandis 'tomentosa'.Methods The content of total flavonoids was determined by spetral photometric analysis.The content of naringin was determined by HPLC.Results The content of total flavonoid was 19.24 % and 18.06 %,and naringin content was 11.72 % and 12.38 % in the cultivars from Dachaling and Fengwei respectively,which were much higher than the other cultivars.Conclusion The contents of total flavonoid and naringin were different in different cultivars of Citrus grandis 'tomentosa'.The cultivars of Citrus grandis 'tomentosa' from Dachaling and Fengwei have the best quality.

OBJECTIVE:To promote rational drug use clinically. METHODS:Sampling rate of prescriptions in outpatient and emergency departments was no less than 1‰ of total prescriptions and no less than 100 prescriptions were reviewed every month;the sampling rate (according to the hospital records of discharge) of ward (district) doctor’s advice was no less than 1% and no less than 30 prescriptions were reviewed every month. According to drugs evaluation indicators of rational drug use,the prescrip-tions were analyzed statistically,immediate intervention and administrative intervention were adopted for irrational prescriptions and medical orders. RESULTS:The average qualified rate of outpatient prescriptions was 97.86%and 0.92%was non-standard prescrip-tions,1.20% was inappropriate prescriptions and 0.01% was extraordinary prescriptions. The non-standard prescriptions in the sec-ond half year were significantly lowered,with statistical significance(P<0.05). The inappropriate usage and dosage was not effec-tively controlled. The average qualified rate of medical orders was 96.30% and drug replacement withont any reference and incom-plete diagnosis in the second half year were significantly lowered,with statistical significance(P<0.05). The utilization rate of an-tibiotics in emergency department was 41.51%and the other indicators were basic standard. The qualified rate of Majing drugs’pre-scriptions was 81.60%and non-standard prescriptions accounted for 88.37%in the irrational prescriptions. CONCLUSIONS:Imme-diate intervention and administrative intervention have achieved some success. Immediate intervention has mainly reduced the non-standard prescriptions and administrative intervention has controlled some specific irrational prescriptions.

Objective To study the changes of the bone density and metabolic makers in patients with lupus nephritis (LN) after long time prednisone treatment.Methods All patients were women.The healthy controls (group A, n =20),the patients with normal renal function (group B, n =25) were studied before and after 2 and 4 month prednisone treatment.Dual energy X ray absorptiometry was used to measure bone mineral density (BMD) in the lumbar spine at L2～L4,femoral neck,Ward′s triangle,great trochanter (GT) and ultradis (ULT).Simultaneously,the serum calcium,phosphate,alkaline phosphate enzyme,PTH M,BGP,24 hour urine calcium,creatinine and other biochemical indices were examined in all of them.Results ① There were no significant differences in BMD between both groups ( P

Objective To investigate the association between arsenic(+3 oxidation state) methyltransferase (AS3MT) genetic polymorphism and susceptibility to endemic arsenism.Methods Polymerase chain reactionrestriction fragment length polymorphism-single strand conformation polymorphism(PCR-RFLP-SSCP) technology was performed to detect mutations of AS3MT gene intron 8 and exon 9 in genome DNA of the 79 cases and 110 controls.PCR products with abnormal band forms were further sequenced to find the types and sites of mutation.Chi-square test and multivariate Logistic analyses were conducted.Results The incidence of the 9149 base mutation(A→C) in AS3MT gene intron 8(AS3MT-9149) in case group(19.0％,15/79) was lower than that in control group (23.6％,26/110).The incidence of the codon 287 mutation(ATG→AT/CG) in AS3MT gene exon 9(AS3MT-287)in case group(10.1％,8/79) was lower than that in control group (11.8％,13/110).However,statistical analysis indicated no significant difference in both mutations between two groups[AS3MT-9149:odds ratio(OR) =0.59,95％ confidence interval(CI):0.26-1.31,P =0.195; AS3MT-287:OR =0.85,95％ CI:0.32-230,P =0.751].Conclusions There are no significant association between the genetic polymorphisms of AS3MT-9149,AS3MT-287 and the susceptibility to endemic arsenism.Similarly,due to small sample amount,we can not exclude the possibility that these gene polymorphisms are related to susceptibility to endemic arsenism.
