Objective A retrospective study was carried out to investigate the survival rate of nasopharyngeal cancer patients after the combined treatment of chemoradiotherapy and Chinese herbal medicine. Methods Based on the will of the patients, 230 cases were divided into treatment group (N=107) and control group (N=123). Both groups received chemoradiotherapy, and the treatment group was additionally given oral use of Chinese herbal medicine over 180 doses per year, and the treatment lasted over 2 years. The survival rate was calculated by Kaplan-Meier estimator, and the Kaplan-Meier plot for the two groups was compared. Results (1) In the treatment group, the one-year, 3-year and 5-year survival rate was 99.1%, 86.4%, 72.5%, and was 95.9%, 73.5%, 58.3% respectively in the control group. The Kaplan-Meier plot showed that significant difference of patient survival was presented in the two groups ( P<0.01) . ( 2) The results of hierarchical group analysis of 230 nasopharyngeal cancer patients showed higher survival rate can be achieved in the T3-4 and N0 poorly-differentiated squamous carcinoma patients aged 50 years or more at the stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ in the treatment group than that in the control group, and the statistical differences were significant ( P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusion Chemoradiotherapy combined with Chinese herbal medicine can increase the survival rate, and prolong life span of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma patinets, in particular for the T3-4 and N0 poorly-differentiated squamous carcinoma patients aged 50 years or more at the stageⅢ-Ⅳ.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Wenjing Shexue Recipe ( WSR) in treating polycystic ovarian syndrome ( PCOS) with liver-kidney deficiency, and to explore the possible therapeutic mechanism. Methods Seventy-four PCOS patients were randomized into observation group ( N=38) and control group ( N=36). The observation group was given oral use of WSR and the control group was treated with Ethinylestradiol and Cyproterone Acetate Tablets orally. Both groups received treatment for 6 months, and were followed up for 3 moths after drug withdrawal. After treatment, the therapeulic effect was evaluated , and the changes of body mass index ( BMI) , hairiness. acne, and sexual hormone levels were monitored before and after treatment. Results ( 1) The total effective rate of the observation gorup was 92.11% and that of the control group was 75.00%, the difference being significant ( P<0.05). ( 2) After treatment for 6 months, body mass index (BMI), the scores of hairiness and acne, and serum levels of testosterone (T) and luteotrophic hormone (LH) were decreased in the observation group (P<0.05 compared with those before treatment). The control group had lower scores of hairiness and acne and serum levels of T and LH than those before treatment ( P<0.05) , but BMI showed no obvious decrease (P>0.05) . The results of follow-up showed that BMI, the scores of hairiness and acne, and serum levels of T and LH were still lower in the observation group than those before treatment (P<0.05), but the above indexes except acne scores were increased in the control group (P>0.05 compared with those before treatment) and were higher than those of the observation group (P<0.05). Conclusion WSR exerts better effect for the treatment of PCOS with liver-kidney deficiency than Ethinylestradiol and Cyproterone Acetate Tablets, and the possible mechanism is probably related with the regulation of endocrine disturbance by decreasing serum T and LH levels.

OBJECTIVE: To make a more scientific and transparent decision in new drug pricing and reimbursement. METHODS: A hierarchy structure model was established based on analytic hierarchy process with an imagined antidepressant drug as an example; the priority weights were calculated, and the multiple factors influencing pricing and reimbursement decision were evaluated synthetically to derive the synthetic evaluation results. RESULTS & CONCLUSIONS: The model can quantify part of the qualitative factors and provide reliable bases for drug pricing and reimbursement; although there are many factors and methodology issues need to be discussed when analytic hierarchy process is applied in reality, the method is realistic and feasible in drug pricing and reimbursement.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 1981;0(04):-
To reconstruct 3 D images of microstructure and ultrastructure of regenerated sciatic nerve of rats with serial cross sections. The 6 mm defects of the sciatic nerve of 90 Wistar rats were bridge connected with silicone tube and were sampled at 3, 7, 15, 30, 60, 90 days respectively after injury. The images of optical and electronic microscope were taken by micro photograph system and scanner, then they were input into the computer, by which the image registration and segmentation were completed. The direct volume rendering model was used to realize the 3 D reconstruction and display. The results showed the morphological changes in degenerated and regenerated sciatic nerve fibres and their appendicular structures could be observed with the 3 D images. It is suggested that the reconstructing results could reveal the differences between the regenerated and normal sciatic nerve fibres of rats intuitively and visually, so it could be used as a new method in the study of peripheral nerve injury.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 2001;0(10):-
This study was undertaken to examine ncNOS IR in bladder after spinal cord injury (SCI). In the meantime, we determine rats bladder ncNOS IR following intravesical instillation of capsaicin after SCI. Adult Sprague Dawley rats and guinea pigs were randomly divided into normal group, sham injury group, spinal cord injury group (4~5weeks after T 8~9 transection). A dose of 1mmol/L intravesical capsaicin was instilled in a part of SCI rats. Bladders of all animals were divided into three tissue pieces: bladder base, bladder body and bladder dome,in which the distribution of ncNOS IR was examined. Spinal transection induced a significant ncNOS IR increase in guinea pig bladder base. In rats, the quantity of ncNOS IR did not differ between the two groups. Instillation of intravesical capsaicin can cause significant up regulation of rat bladder ncNOS IR after SCI. The increase of ncNOS IR in SCI animals bladder indicates that NO may play an important role in the regulation of micturition reflex after SCI. In SCI rats, ncNOS IR can significantly be up regulated by intravesical capsaicin instillation, suggesting that NO may act as a factor in the action of capsaicin.

Objective: To explore the effect of valsartan on inflammatory cytokines in patients with hypertension combining paroxysmal atrial ifbrillation (PAF).
Methods:A total of 60 patients with hypertension combining PAF converted to sinus rhythm were studied and the patients were divided into 2 groups. Control group, the patients received felodipine and Valsartan group. n=30 in each group, all patients were treated for 6 months. In addition, there was a Normal group including 30 healthy subjects. The levels of high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and left atrial diastolic diameter (LADd), the sinus rhythm maintenance rate were examined and compared before and after treatment among different groups.
Results: Compared with Normal group, the levels of hs-CRP, IL-6 and LADd were obviously higher in patients at both Control group and Valsartan group, all P<0.01. With 6 months of treatment, the levels of hs-CRP, IL-6 and LADd were decreased in both groups of patients than they were before, all P<0.01;compared with Control group, such effects were more obvious in Valsartan group, all P<0.01. The sinus rhythm maintenance rate in Valsartan group was signiifcantly higher than that in Control group, P<0.05.
Conclusion: Valsartan may inhibit inflammatory response and improve atrial structure remodeling, therefore better maintain the converted sinus rhythm in patients with hypertension combining PAF. The anti-inlfammatory effect of valsartan might be independent from its anti-hypertension effect.
