1.Sweep pattern visual evoked response acuity vs logarithmic visual acuity
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2001;19(3):246-249
ObjectiveTo compare the sweep pattern visual evoked response acuity SPVER-A with the logarithmic visual acuity.MethodsSPVER-A and logarithmic visual acuity were measured and compared in 50 people. 8-squared vertical gratings were presented as stimuli continuously. The responses were averaged and displayed through the discrete fourier transform on the monitor display. The SPVER acuity was determined by extrapolating the SPVER amplitude-spatial frequency function to baseline.ResultsThe overall correlation was r=0.699 between the SPVER-A and logarithmic visual acuity.Underestimation of acuity by the SPVER when the logarithmic visual acuity is better than 0.5.On the other hand, when the logarithmic visual acuity is worse than 0.5 the SPVER-A was overestimated.ConclusionSPVER-A has a good correlation to logarithmic acuity. The difference between two methods may indicate that the grating acuity and logarithmic /visual acuity activate different system.

Journal of Medical Research 2006;0(07):-
Objective To study the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis of flavonoids and other ingredients in leaves of Lonicera hypoglauca miq,and to optimize the reflux extraction condition for total flavonoids from leaves of lonicera hypoglauca miq. Methods Preliminary test was used for qualitative analysis. UV-spectrophotometry was used to determinate content of total flavonoids. By orthogonal design, the extraction rate of flavonoids was determined in different factors of ethanol reflux extracting. Results Leaves of lonicera hypoglauca miq contained alkaloids and flavonoids. The optimum conditions of ethanol reflux extracting total flavonoids are 12 times 50% ethanol, and refluence for 1.0h at water bath for two times.According to validate experiment, the average total flavonoids content was 16.6% in leaves of lonicera hypoglauca miq, with RSD=1.52%(n=3). Conclusion Flavonoids are in higher level in leaves of Lonicera hypoglauca miq. There are some chemical similarity in leaves of lonicera hypoglauca miq and leaves of flos lonicerae.

Objective:To investigate the content change of EGF and NT-4/5 in the the frontal lobe, hippocampus and thalamus of rats after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion,in order to reveal the dynamic protection of EGF and NT-4/5 to cerebellum ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods:Wistar senile rats were divided into the control group and the experiment groups at random. The control group included 5.The experimental groups were divided into cerebral ischemia 15 min group and ischemia-reperfusion 1 h,6 h,2 d,4 d,9 d groups after 15 min ischemia,5 rats per group. Results:There was all a little expression of EGF and NT-4/5 in the frontal lobe, hippocampus and thalamus of normal senile rats. The frontal lobe was shown evident increase of EGF expression in ischemia-reperfusion 2 d only. The hippocampus was shown continued increase of EGF expression during ischemia-reperfusion 6 h to 4 d and the EGF expression was shown a peak in ischemia-reperfusion 4 d.The increase of EGF expression in thalamus continued during ischemia-reperfusion 2-9 d too.The NT-4/5 expression of the frontal brain was clearly reduced after ischemia-reperfusion and returned to normal in ischemia-reperfusion 9 d.The NT-4/5 expression of hippocampus was shown one-off reduction after ischemia-reperfusion,but the expression quickly returned to normal and shows a little increase. The thalamus had only one-off reduction of NT-4/5 expression. Conclusion:The frontal lobe lacks of fast neuroprotective mechanism of EGF in early stage of ischemia-reperfusion and it has a limited neuroprotective effect of EGF in middle and advanced stage. The hippocampus has a fast and long-lasting neuroprotective mechanism of EGF.The thalamus has a delayed neuroprotective mechanism of EGF.The frontal brain and hippocampus have a delayed neuroprotective mechanism of NT-4/5.The neuroprotective mechanism of NT-4/5 is weaker in thalamus.

Objective To understand the incidence of renal involvement of children with non Hodgkin′s lymphoma and to recognize its different CT findings. Methods The thoracic and abdominal plain and contrast enhanced CT of 30 cases of NHL in children were reviewed and all cases were confirmed by pathology. The changes in both pre and post chemotherapy were analysed in the 10 selected cases with renal involvement. Results CT demonstrated 6 cases of multiple masses and 1 case of multiple patchy lesions in bilateral kidneys. Two cases of single mass and 1 case of multiple masses were detected in single kidney. Conclusion The incidence of renal involvement of children with non Hodgkin′s lymphoma is relatively high. CT can clearly demonstrate the renal involvement of NHL, which is helpful for clinical stage, especially in the evaluation of the therapeutic effects. Hence, abdominal plain and contrast enhanced CT scan should be done in children with NHL.

BackgroundThe effects of extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMFs) on public health have attracted wide attentions. The association of the thermal effect of ELF-EMFs with cancer and ocular tissue damage has been of concern. However, the pathological changes of scleral tissue after exposure to ELF-EMFs as well as the relationship between these changes and myopia are still poorly understood.ObjectiveThe present study was to investigate the molecular pathological changes of human fetal scleral fibroblasts (HFSFs) after exposure to ELF-EMFs in vitro and to explore the possible mechanism in the occurrence and development of myopia.MethodsHFSFs were cultured and passaged and then exposed to 50 Hz electromagnetic fields, and HFSFs that did not receive the irradiation of ELF-EMFs were used as the control group. The expression of collagen type Ⅰ (COL1A1 ) mRNA and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) mRNA in cultured HFSFs were detected by real-time qualitative polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) under different magnetic field intensites (0,0.1,0.2,0.5,1.0 mT) and different exposure time (0,6,12,24,36,48 hours).Cell proliferation assay of HFSFs was detected by the cell counting kit 8 ( CCK8 ) assay. The expression levels of COL1 A1 and MMP-2 proteins in HFSFs were further confirmed by immunofluorescence staining. Results The expression of COL1A1 mRNA was significantly down-regulated under the exposure of 0.2 mT ELF-EMFs for 6 hours,in comparison with the control group;moreover,it decreased in parallel with the increased of flux density (0.099±0.008 vs.0.050±0.004) (P =0.009 ).The expression of MMP-2mRNA was up-regulated conspicuously after exposure to 0.1 mT ELF-EMFs for 24 hours, and it increased with exposure time in comparison with the control group ( 0.009 ±0.001 vs.0.018±0.003 ) ( P =0.038 ).Proliferation of HFSFs (A450) was inhibited following the exposure to 0.2 mT ELF-EMFs for 24 hours in comparison with the control group (P =0.009 ).The expression of COL1 A1 in the experimental group was decreased, compared with the control group, but the expression of MMP-2 was increased.ConclusionsELF-EMFs inhibit the proliferation of HFSFs and expression of COL1 A1 in HFSFs,which might be one of the reasons for the development of myopia.
