Objective To make comparisons of the three models of acute and chronic rheumatic carditis to find out an optimal animal model. Methods AntigenⅠwas a emulsifier mixed by complete freund’ s adjuvant( CFA) and Group A streptococcus(GAS).AntigenⅡwas mixed by incomplete freund’s adjuvant(IFA) and GAS.Female Lewis rats were randomly divided into four groups: A, B, C treatmeat groups were immuned with antigenⅠat the foot pad firstly. Subsequently, rats in group A、B、C were injected antigenⅠ, antigenⅡand activated GAS respectively to make the models of RHD.Rats in control group D were immunized with the same protocol outlined as treatment groups but without GAS. Respectively 7, 12, 24 weeks the rats were sacrificed 24 ( each group was 6).The blood biochemical item and Hematoxylin-eosin( HE) staining of hearts were detected. Results In group C the mortality was 25%.In group A, the incidence of carditis was the highest.Histopathological manifestations of group A, C was not only revealed acute damage such as inflammatory cell infiltrate as well as group B, but also the Aschofflike cells in the myocardial cells interstitial. But in group A and C there had a great degree of the inflammatory cells infiltration than group B.At 24th week rats in group A detected the rate and degree of valve fibrosis in chronic damage were higher than group B and C.None of rats in group D presented carditis or valvulitis. Conclusion In group A, giving the GAS with continuous stimulation after using the mixed emulsification of CFA and GAS to immune Lewis rats for five times was a appropriate method which could provide an optimal animal model for experimental study of acute and chronic rheumatic heart disease.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the correlation between articulation, velopharyngeal function, and surgical age by comparing the changes in articulation after velopharyngeal closure is performed. This study is also conducted to investigate the influencing factors of omission change between pre- and post-operation.
METHODSA total of 48 patients, including 18 males and 30 females, mean age (13.3 ± 5.8) years, with non-syndromic cleft lips and palates were selected from January 2011 to December 2011. Their speech data and articulation between pre- and post-operation were retrospectively analyzed using non-parametric tests. Correlation study was performed to analyze the influencing factors of the changes in articulation. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
RESULTSThe difference in articulation after velopharyngeal closure occurred was significant (Z = -3.796, P = 0.000). A negative correlation between the ratio of post-operative normal articulation and surgical age (R = -0.487, P = 0.000) was observed. The change in omission was positively correlated with surgical age (R = 0.589, P = 0.000) and gender (R = 0.404, P = 0.047). By comparison, the change in omission was negatively correlated with follow-up time (R = -0.235, P = 0.040).
CONCLUSIONArticulation and intelligibility are significantly improved after velopharyngeal closure is performed. These parameters are negatively correlated with surgical age to some extent. In addition, the change in omission is positively correlated with surgical age and gender, whereas the change in omission is negatively correlated with follow-up time.

OBJECTIVETo determine the factors affecting post-operative velopharyngeal function of cleft palate patients aged over two years old.
METHODSThe data on 245 patients, including first visit case records and those in the database, were searched and recorded. Post-operative velopharyngeal function and clinical features, such as cleft ratio, adequate ratio, diagnosis, operative age and method, were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTSCleft ratio and adequate ratio in the velopharyngeal competence (VPC) group were not statistically different from those in the velopharyngeal incompetence (VPI) group. The difference in VPC rate in different age groups and diagnosis was not significant. The post-operative VPC rates under different methods were significantly different.
CONCLUSIONThe current therapeutic schedule for patients younger than two years old is inappropriate for patients older than two years old. Cleft ratio is not the main factor affecting postoperative velopharygeal function. Sommerlad-Levator Veli Palatini reconstructional operation combined with sphincter pharyngoplasty can obviously improve the velopharyngeal function of patients aged 2 years old and up. This method should be applied in primary palatoplasty.

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2002;22(1):37-39
OBJECTIVETo explore the effect and mechanism of Zhongfeng No. II Oral Liquid (ZF II) in treating acute cerebral infarction (CI).
METHODSRandomly controlled clinical study was conducted in 160 patients with CI, they were treated with ZF II plus western medicine (treated group) and western medicine alone (control group) respectively. The animal model of CI was made by unilaterally common carotid artery ligation in 45 Mongolian gerbil, and they were divided into the model group, the normal saline group and ZF II group.
RESULTSZF II could improve the TCM Syndrome, neuro-function and cerebral blood circulation in CI patients. Experimental study showed that ZF II could significantly inhibit the release of glutamic acid in 6 hrs (P < 0.05), maintain the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione, and scavenge the free radicals effectively.
CONCLUSIONZF II could improve the function of brain tissue, and is worth developing and applying in treating CI.

Objective To investigate the nephroprotective effects of prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) in the elderly undergoing coronary angiography or intervention. Methods161 patients undergoing coronary angiography (CAG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were randomly assigned to PGE1 group (n=87 cases) and control group (n=74 cases).10 μg lipo-PGE1 added to 100 ml normal saline were administered intravenously once daily for 5 days before and 2 days after the operation. The serum levels of creatinine (Scr) and cystatin C (Cys C) were measured on admission and 48 h after the procedure. Results After the procedure, the levels of Scr and Cys C were increased (P<0.01) and creatinine clearance (Ccr) was decreased (P<0.05) in control group than in PGE1 group. The incidence of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) in control group 〔12.2% (9/74)〕 was higher than in PGE1 group 〔3.4%(3/87)〕 (P<0.05).The application of P(GE1 decreased CI-AKI,but high basic level of Scr and diabetes mellitus enhanced the incidence of CI-AKI by logistic regression. The serum levels of Cys C had negative correlation with Ccr (r=-0.615,P<0.01).Conclusions Perioperative application of PGE1 has nephroprotective effects in the elderly undergoing CAG or PCI,and decreases the incidence of CI-AKI.The serum levels of Cys C is one of ideal indexes for auxiliary diagnosis of CI-AKI.
