International Eye Science 2017;17(10):1878-1882
AIM: To compare the effect of small incision extracapsular cataract extraction and phacoemulsification on corneal endothelial cells and explore the differences between these two most commonly used surgeries for grade Ⅱ-Ⅲ lens nucleus. · METHODS: Retrospective study. We retrospectively evaluated the data of age-related cataract patients who had completed surgery in our hospital between June 2013 and December 2015. There were 84 eyes of 84 patients. The corneal endothelial cell density of all the patients were greater than 2000/mm2 and lens nucleus were gradeⅡ- Ⅲ. The patients were divided into manual small incision cataract surgery ( MSICS ) group and phacoemulsification ( Phaco ) group. MSICS group included 42 cases (42 eyes) and Phaco group included 42 cases ( 42 eyes ) . Postoperative evaluations were performed at 1d, 1wk, 1mo and 6mo and included uncorrected visual acuity ( UCVA ) , corneal endothelial cell density and the proportion of hexagonal cells. · RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences of the two groups in preoperative basic data, UCVA, corneal endothelial cell density and the proportion of hexagonal cells, nuclear classification. The postoperative UCVA were significantly improved in both groups (x2=148. 01, P<0. 001; x2=165. 97, P<0. 001). The postoperative UCVA were on the rise as time goes on. The postoperative corneal endothelial cell density was obviously reduced in both groups compared with the preoperative (F=37. 74, P<0. 001; F=24. 56, P<0. 001). The proportion of hexagonal cells in Phaco group was declined at 1d (P=0. 002) after the operation and returned to baseline by 1wk (P=0. 894) after surgery. There was no significant difference between the two groups in UCVA, corneal endothelial cell density and the proportion of hexagonal cells at each observation point (P>0. 05). ·CONCLUSION: Manual small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification can indiscriminately improve UCVA and decrease the density of corneal endothelial cells. However, the change of hexagonal cells proportion was not obvious. These two surgeries for cataract patients with corneal endothelial cell density greater than 2000/mm2 , grade Ⅱ-Ⅲ lens nucleus have similar efficacy and safety.

Objective To investigate the clinical significance of serum ferritin level(SF),serum iron(SI) level in patients with chronic hepatitic B.Methods SF was measured by radioimmunoassay, serum iron was measured through atomic absorption spectrometry. Results Chronic HBV infectors mostly had high level of SF and SI,with severity of illness state increasing, especially in the group of severe hepatitis. The levels of SF and SI correlated with HBV duplication to a certain extent and specifically SF and SI increased with the increase of virus duplication. However,it had no statistical significance.Among the sufferers of hepatocirrhosis, numerical values of SF and SI turned to increase with the rank of Child-Pugh(A,B and C) and SF had the correlation with LN(the index of hepatic fibrosis).Patients of hepatocirrhosis with a high SF level had higher frequency of complications occurrence and reoccurrence, the clinical post-cure effects were worse. Conclusion SF and SI can be reference index in forecasting the degree of disease state, hepatic fibrosis and clinical post-cure.

This study investigated the protective effect of ATP on skeletal muscle satellite cells damaged by H2O2 in neonatal rats and the possible mechanism. The skeletal muscle satellite cells were randomly divided into four groups: normal group, model group (cells treated with 0.1 mmol/L H2O2 for 50 s), protection group (cells treated with 16, 8, 4, 2, 1, 0.5, or 0.25 mmol/L ATP for 24 h, and then with 0.1 mmol/L H2O2 for 50 s), proliferation group (cells treated with 16, 8, 4, 2, 1, 0.5, or 0.25 mmol/L ATP for 24 h). MTT assay, FITC+PI+DAPI fluorescent staining, Giemsa staining and immunofluorescence were performed to examine cell viability and apoptosis, and apoptosis-related proteins. The results showed that the survival rate of skeletal muscle satellite cells was decreased and the apoptosis rate was increased after H2O2 treatment (P<0.01). Different doses of ATP had different effects on skeletal muscle satellite cells damaged by H2O2: the survival rate of muscle satellite cells treated with ATP at 4, 2, or 1 mmol/L was increased. The protective effect was most profound on cells treated with 2 mmol/L ATP. Immunofluorescence showed that ATP could increase the number of Bcl-2-positive cells (P<0.01) and decrease the number of the Bax-positive cells (P<0.01). It was concluded that ATP could protect skeletal muscle satellite cells against H2O2 damage in neonatal rats, which may be attributed to the up-regulation of the expression of Bcl-2 and down-regulation of Bax, resulting in the suppression of apoptosis.
