Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(3):635-639
This study sought to reveal the difference of brain functions at resting-state between subjects with sub-health and normal controls by using the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technology. Resting-state fMRI scans were performed on 24 subjects of sub-health and on 24 healthy controls with gender, age and education matched with the sub-health persons. Compared to the healthy controls, the sub-health group showed significantly higher regional homogeneity (ReHo) in the left post-central gyrus and the right post-central gyrus. On the other hand, the sub-health group showed significantly lower ReHo in the left superior frontal gyrus, in the right anterior cingulated cortex and ventra anterior cingulate gyrus, in the left dorsolateral frontal gyrus, and in the right middle temporal gyrus. The Significant difference in ReHo suggests that the sub-health persons have abnormalities in certain brain regions. It is proved that its specific action and meaning deserves further assessment.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2003;0(09):-
Aim To study the effect of Vitamin C on growth and apoptosis of human cervical cancer cell line HeLa and its mechanisms. Methods HeLa cell line was treated with VitC. Cell proliferation was evaluated with MTT assay. The distribution of cell cycle, the rate of apoptosis and the expression of HPV18 E6,p53,Bax and Bcl-2 protein of the heLa cells, were observed using flow cytometer respectively. TRAP-PCR-ELISA assay was used to evaluate telomerase activity. Results Vitamin C arrested the HeLa cell line in G_0/G_1 phase in a dose and time-dependent manner, and significantly inhibited HeLa cells growth and increased the rate of apoptosis.Expression of HPV18 E6 and Bcl-2 proteins, was down regulated expression of p53 and Bax proteins was upregulated, and the telomerase activity was reduced. Conclusion Vitamin C can significantly inhibit HeLa cells growth and proliferation, arrest them in G_0/G_1 phase and induce their apoptosis. The reason of these changes is the decrease of E6 gene′s expression, and the succedent changes of proteins′ expression in cancer cells, including the downregulated expression of HPV18 E6 and Bcl-2 proteins, upregulated expression of p53 and Bax proteins and reduced telomerae activity.

Journal of Clinical Pediatrics 2014;(11):1060-1063
Obiective To explore the dynamics of tidal breathing pulmonary function in infants with recurrent wheeze and its clinical signiifcance. Methods Eighty (80) infants with recurrent wheeze from October 2013 to February 2014 were enrolled and divided into asthma predictive index positive (n=25) and asthma predictive negative (n=55) groups, and another 20 healthy children were enrolled as control group. Tidal breath pulmonary function at the time of admission (acute phase), leaving hospital (remission phase), and a week after discharge (admission phase) were tested, the ratio of time taken to reach peak expiratory lfow to total expiratory time(TPTEF/TE)and ratio of peak expiratory volume to total expiratory volume(VPEF/VE) between groups were compared. Results From acute phase and remission phase to admission phase, TPTEF/TE, VPEF/VE were elevated in positive group and negative group showing signiifcant statistical difference between phases (P=0.000). In acute phase, TPTEF/TE, VPEF/VE showed no statistical difference (P>0.05) between positive group and negative group, when compared with control group, TPTEF/TE, VPEF/VE were signiifcantly lower in positive and negative groups than that in control group (P<0.05). In remission phase, TPTEF/TE, VPEF/VE in negative group were higher than that in positive group, but significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.05). In admission phase, TPTEF/TE and VPEF/VE in negative group and control group showed no statistical difference (P>0.05), but significantly higher than that in positive group (P<0.05). Conclusions Lung function impairment duration was longer in asthma predictive index positive children than in asthma predictive index negative children. The tidal breathing pulmonary function test can provide objective clinical indicators for infants with recurrent wheeze to predict asthma.
