2.Effects of maternal dextrose infusion during caesarean section on fetus and neonate
Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 1994;0(06):-
Fifty-six fasting women undergoing elective caesarean section received one of the following five glucose regimens before delivery respectively, group Ⅰ:0.9% saline 800ml as control; group Ⅱ:120ml of 5% dextrose(6g) in normal saline and 680ml of 0.9% saline;group Ⅲ:240ml of 5% dextrose (12g) in normal saline and 560ml of 0.9% saline group Ⅳ:480ml of 5% dextrose(24g) in normal saline and 320ml of 0.9% saline;group Ⅴ:800ml of 5% dextrose in normal saline(40g) The results showed that the maternal and umbilical cord venous blood sugar at delivery were significantly increased in group Ⅳ and Ⅴ. In group Ⅴ,neonatal acidosis(pH=7.19?0.02) was induced, PaCO_2 and lactate elevated to 58.5?2.8mmHg and 26.1?2.5mg% separately, neonatal hypoglycaemia (36?6.8mg% )occured 2 hours after delivery. There was higher incidence of neonatal jaundice in infants of group Ⅴ than in thoseof group Ⅰ and Ⅱ. It is suggested that the larger amounts of intravenous dextrose to the maternal is harmful to the neonate during caesarean section.

Objective To investigate the distribution of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) —the pacemaker cells of the gut in the different parts of guinea pig pyeloureteral tract and explore the effect on the contraction of smooth muscle. Methods The ureteropelvic junction, upper ureteral, middle ureteral, lower ureteral tissues harvested from 10 guinea pigs were performed KIT immunofluorescent staining in stretched preparations. Smooth muscle strips of 2 mm?6 mm were dissected from the sites for tone determination. The frequency and amplitude of the smooth muscle were compared among different sites of pyeloureteral tract. Results Cells with positive staining by KIT and with similar morphology to ICCs were found in the entire pyeloureteral tract of guinea pigs. The density of ICCs-like cells in the ureteropelvic junction, upper ureteral, middle ureteral, and lower ureteral tissues were (5.20?0.98), (3.90?0.98), (3.03?0.98) and (2.50?0.81) respectively. The contraction of strips in different sites varied according to the distribution of ICCs. The amplitude and frequency of strips from the ureteropelvic junction and upper ureteral were significantly higher than those from middle ureteral and lower ureteral (P

Journal of Third Military Medical University 2003;0(07):-
Objective To investigate the effect of exogenous orexinA on the pyramid neurons and interneurons in the prefrontal cortex prelimbic(PL)area. Methods The pyramid neurons and interneurons in PL area of Kunming mice were selected from prefrontal cortex slices by infrared visual patch clamp technique. The morphology and electrophysiological features of the pyramid neurons and interneurons were observed. The effect of exogenous orexinA at a concentration of 400 nmol/L on these cells was studied using the whole cell configuration. Results The pyramid neurons were large, pyramidal in cell body with clear apical dendrites extending vertically and several basal dendrites radiating. The interneurons were comparatively smaller and had several processes from cell body.In current clamp mode, all 54 pyramid neurons having been recorded showed frequency adaption, and the 15 recorded interneurons discharged rapidly and had no frequency adaption. While in vol-tage clamp mode,36 pyramid neurons were regarded as Ih(+)pyramid neurons for recorded hyperpolariztion-activated cation current, and the left 18 and 15 interneurons were Ih(-).Exogenous orexinA had a total reaction rate of 51.9% on 54 recorded pyramid neurons under current clamp, and a rate of 66.7% on 36 Ih(+)pyramid neurons and of 22.2% on the Ih(-)pyramid neurons under voltage clamp. All 15 recorded interneurons had no reaction to exogenous orexinA under either mode. Conclusion OrexinA plays excitatory effect on pyramid neurons in the prefrontal cortex PL area, and this effect is much more noticeable in pyramid neurons with Ih currents.
