OBJECTIVEThe effect of Kou Yan Qing Ke Li on the prevention and treatment of radiation-induced oral mucositis was investigated in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
METHODSSixty patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma to be treated with radiotherapy were randomized into two groups: the experimental and control groups. The experimental group (30 patients) was treated with Kou Yan Qing Ke Li during the full course of radiotherapy. The control group (30 patients) rinsed their mouths in the same way with mouth washes containing 0.9% sodium chloride injection, lidocaine, dexamethasone, vitamin B2 and B2 gargle liquid mixture, when grade 2 and above radiation-induced oral mucositis appeared in the process of radiation. Radiation-induced oral mucositis was assessed according to the radiation therapy oncology group criteria. The time of occurrence and degree of pain grade were compared between the two groups.
RESULTSThe first onset of oral mucositis in the experimental group (12.40 d ± 2.74 d) was later than that in the control group (9.46 d ± 1.39 d) (t = 5.241, P < 0.001), whereas the grade of pain and acute radiation mucositis was lower in the experimental group than that in the control group. The difference was statistically significant.
CONCLUSIONKou Yan Qing Ke Li could delay the time of occurrence of radiation-induced oral mucositis, reduce the severity of radiation stomatitis, alleviate the pain of patients, improve the clinical symptoms of patients, and effectively prevent and treat radiation-induced oral mucositis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

This paper is aim to investigate the pharmacokinetics and absolute bioavailability of neoline in Beagle dogs, and provide a theoretical basis for further study. Ethyl acetate was used for liquid-liquid extracting after 10% ammonia alkalizing. The method of UPLC-Q-TOF-MS was established for the determination of neoline plasma concentrations. Beagle dogs were orally or intravenously administered with neoline for pharmacokinetic and absolute bioavailability study. Good linear relationship of neoline was found over the range of 0.1-4 mg x L(-1) (R2 = 0.9982) and 2-100 microg x L(-1) (R2 = 0.9945). Intra-and inter-day precision, expressed as the relativestandard (RSD) were less than 5.0%. Accuracy, expressed as the relative error (RE) was within 90.0%-115%. The recovery of neoline in dog plasma was more than 80%. After 6 mg x kg(-1) for ig and 1 mg x kg(-1) for iv administration of neoline, the main pharmacokinetic parameters were analyzed with Winnonlin software. t(1/2) were (313.88 +/- 63.18), (236.33 +/- 229.84) min, and AUC(0-infinity) were (58,027.40 +/- 14,132.69), (473,578.02 +/- 82,333.08) min x microg x L(-1) for ig and iv administration respectively. The absolute bioavail ability was (73.15 +/- 10.29) %. The method of UPLC-Q-TOF-MS described in the report was sensitive, reliable and specific, and suitable for pharmacokinetic study of neoline in Beagle dog. The high absolute bioavailability of neoline in dog suggested good absorption of neline which was worth of further investigation.

Objective To analyze the etiologies, clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of patients with acute renal failure(ARF)admitted to the hospital at high altitude.Method This retrospective study included clinical data of patients with acute renal failure in the General Hospital of Tibet Military Command from May 2001 to April,2006.Results There were 85 male patients and 63 female patients with mean age(42.4?18.1)years old.Among 148 patients with acquired ARF,52.7% was iatrogenic or nosoeomal origin, demonstrating a trend of increasing. The ARF included pre-renal(n=48,32.4%),renal parenchymal(n= 90,60.8%)and post-renal(n=10,6.8%)in origin.Acute high altitude sickness(n=20)was the major causes of pre-renal ARF.Renal parenchymal ARF could be classified into glomerular vascular lesions(n=24), acute tubular necrosis(n=53),acute interstitial nephritides(n=12),and contusion of unitesticle(n=1).of 90 cases of renal parenchymal ARF,39 patients(43.3%)were induced by medicines.Lithiasis was the major causes of post-renal ARF.The mortality of ARF in our study was 42.6%.The mortality of patients contracted ARF in hospital was much higher than that of patients community ARF in community(55.1 vs 23.6%;P=0.01). There was no significant differences of the mortality between the patients with and without dialysis treatment. Univariate analysis showed that prognosis was correlated with age,the presence of hematuria and oliguria or anuria Hb,and the number of organ system failures. The logistic regression showed that age,Hb and the number of organ system dysfunction were the predictors of mortality.Conlusions The major causes of ARF at high altitude were acute high altitude sickness and the use of medicines with nephrotoxicity. The morbility and mortality of nosocomisl ARF increased significantly.Prevention of MODS is a key management to decrease mortality in severe ARF.

Objective To establish a method of quantiying trace α-galactosidase from Bacteroides fragilis in enzymatic conversion of blood group B to O red blood cells ( B-ECO RBCs) .Methods BALB/c mice were immunized with purified recombinant B.fragilisα-galactosidase ( the purity>90%) to prepare monoclonal antibodies. The ascites were prepared using hybridoma cell lines stably secreting antibody and purified by HiTrap rProtein A column. The antibody titer and spe-cificity were detected by ELISA and Western blotting, respectively.Purified monoclonal antibody and rabbit polyclonal an-tibody were applied to detect residual enzyme in B-ECO RBCs and the washing solution was analyzed by indirect ELISA. Results A high titer and purity antibody was obtained.Western blotting showed that the antibody specifically reacted with B.fragilisα-galactosidase.Moreover, indirect ELISA was sensitive enough to detect the minimal amount of residualα-gal-actosidase at the concentration of 1 ng/ml.After four repeat washing cycles with 1∶4 ( v/v) phosphate-buffered saline, the amount of residual enzyme in B-ECO RBCs was less than 10 ng/ml.Conclusion An effective method of detecting the min-imal amount of residual α-galactosidase in blood conversion is established for safety evaluation of universal RBCs prepara-tion by enzymatic treatment.
