Objective:To discuss the significance of standardized treatment for cancer pain, according to the Cancer Pain Treat-ment Specification (2011 Edition) issued by the Ministry of Health, PR China. Methods:Clinical data of 126 patients with cancer pain, who were admitted to the Department of Medical Oncology, The Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University, were collected to com-pare the improvement of the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) score, number of breakthrough pain, and quality of life score after treatment. The relationships between different pain grades, disease entities, and treatment effect were analyzed. The influence factors of pain relief were also analyzed by using Logistic regression analysis. Results:1). Following standardized treatment, the improvement rate of NRS score has shown significant differences in pain grading (P=0.001) and gender (P=0.000). However, no significant differences were ob-served between different diseases (P=0.112). The improvement rate of the life quality score and the number of breakthrough pain had no significant difference after standardized treatment. 2). The grading of cancer pain and the disease entities had little effect on cancer pain relief. 3). The anti-tumor treatment and“no distant metastasis”were the independent factors that brought about the decrease in NRS and quality of life scores.“No distant metastasis”(P=0.046) was the independent factor that reduced the number of pain out-breaks. Conclusion: The standardized treatment positively affects the NRS score, number of breakthrough pain, and quality of life score. Patients who received anti-neoplastic therapy and who had no distant metastasis showed significant treatment effectiveness in pain management.

The immunoregulation effect to polysaccharides from Bifidobacterium spp. was investigated on the base of functional assessment standards of health food. Effects of the EPS on immunity were investigated by promoted the proliferation of spleen lymph cells, delayed type hypersensitivity reaction, the HC50 value and macrophage function assay in mice. Data showed that the EPS could obviously increase the ratio of swallowed chicken red blood cell by macrophage and the HC50 value in mice. However, no significant effect was found on the delayed type hypersensitive induced by sheep red blood cell, for only the low dose of 100 mg/(kg?d) EPS promoted the proliferation of spleen lymph cells. Bifidobacterium spp. EPS can certain immunomodulating function.

Hydrocortisone-induced yang-deficiency animal model has now become the generally accepted model of yang deficiency. However, assessing the most appropriate dose of hydrocortisone is a long-term challenge. For analyzing the modeling dose, the authors have built several kinds of yang-deficiency models induced by hydrocortisone at different doses, and analyzed the experimental data with various mathematical statistical methods. In order to discuss the effects of the modeling dose on the basis of previous research, the authors introduced Ridit analysis.

BACKGROUND:Titanium aloy and stainless steel are two common internal fixation materials, but there are some difference in their therapeutic effects and biocompatibility. OBJECTIVE:To explore the therapeutic effects and biocompatibility of titanium aloy and stainless steel internal fixation materials for the treatment of spinal tuberculosis. METHODS:Seventy-one spinal tuberculosis patients, 35 males and 36 females, aged 17-81 were enroled. Among them, 35 patients received titanium aloy internal fixation, and the 36 patients underwent stainless steel internal fixation. At the end of 12-month folow-up, Cobb angle changes, therapeutic effect and Frankel grade were analyzed in the two groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Before treatment, there was no difference in the spinal kyphosis angle and Frankel grade between the two groups. At the last folow-up, the Frankel grade and Cobb angle were both improved in the two groups (P < 0.05), but there was stil no difference between the two groups. The cure rate was 97% (n=34) in the titanium aloy group and 92% in the stainless steel group (n=33), and no significant difference was found between the two groups. These two kinds of internal fixation materials exhibited good biocompatibility, and no infection and other adverse reactions occurred. These findings indicate that both titanium aloy and stainless steel as internal fixation materials have good biocompatibility and therapeutic effects.

Objective To investigate the genetic variation and molecular evolution of human bo-cavirus 1 (HBoV1) strains isolated during 2009 to 2014 in Hangzhou, China. Methods Throat swab sam-ples were collected from children with acute respiratory tract infections in the Children′s Hospital Affiliated to the Zhejiang University School of Medicine from 2009 to 2014.Real-time PCR was performed for the detec-tion of HBoV1 strains.Fifteen HBoV1 strains with high virus load were screened out for the amplification and sequencing of complete genomes. The complete genomes were submitted to GenBank for further analysis with bioinformatics software. Results A total of 48 nucleotide mutations were detected in the complete genomes of 15 HBoV1 strains, resulting in 11 amino acid mutations with 5 of them located in the active region of phospholipase A2 ( PLA2) .The 15 HBoV1 isolates along with 16 HBoV1 strains in GenBank were classified into three clusters as indicated by the phylogenetic analysis based on their complete coding sequences. All of the 15 strains were belonged to clusterⅠ, the representative strain of which was the Sweden prototype strain ST2.The phylogenetic trees constructed using genes encoding the capsid proteins VP1 and VP2 were highly similar to those based on the complete coding sequences. The estimated mean evolutionary rate of HBoV1 with regard to the complete coding sequence was 3.03×10-4(95%HPD, 2.14×10-4-3.92×10-4 ) substitu-tions per site per year. With regard to each gene, the NS1 gene was considered to the most conserved gene while the NP1 gene showed the highest substitution rate. The dN/dS ratios (ω) of the four genes were all less than 1, indicating that all of them were under negative selection. Moreover, the VP2 gene was under the strongest negative selection, while the NP1 gene was under the weakest negative selection. Conclusion All of the HBoV1 isolates circulating in Hangzhou province during 2009 to 2014 were belonged to ST2 genotype with a relatively high mutation in the area of PLA2.Despite the complete genome was conservative, its evo-lutionary rate was high.Among the four genes, the NP1 gene showed the highest substitution rate. All of the four genes were under negative selection, of which the VP2 gene was under the strongest negative selection.

[Abstract ] Objective The spleen plays an important role in brain ischemia-induced cerebral injury. This study aimed to ex-plore the correlation of the spleen mass index with the neurological function scores and infarction volume following permanent occlusion of the middle cerebral artery ( pMCAO) in rats. Methods Thirty male SD rats were equally randomized into a sham operation, a 3-day brain ischemia, and a 7-day brain ischemia group. The pMCAO model was established by ligation in the right brain of the rats. Neurological function scores were obtained with the Longa 5-Point Scale at 0, 3, and 7 days after modeling, and at 3 and 7 days, the spleen mass index was calculated, the infarction volume measured by TTC, and brain histopathological changes evaluated by HE stai-ning. Results Compared with the 7-day ischemia group, the 3-day ischemia rats showed significantly reduced spleen mass index ([1.62 ±0.58] vs [0.87 ±0.59] mg/g) and increased neurological function score (1.00 [1.00, 1.25] vs 2.00 [1.75, 2.25]) and infarct volume ([18.67 ±7.92] vs [36.20 ±14.92]%) (all P<0.05).An extremely significant decrease was found in the spleen mass index of the 3-day ischemia rats in comparison with that of the animals in the sham operation group ([1.90 ±0.22] mg/g) (P<0.01).HE staining revealed more obvious pathological injury of the cerebral cortex in the 3-day than in the 7-day group. The spleen mass index was negatively correlated with the neurological dys-function score (r=-0.851, P=0.019) and infarction volume (r=-0.717, P =0.013). Conclusion In pMCAO rats, measure-ment of the spleen mass index contributes significantly to the preven-tion and improvement of ischemia-induced cerebral injury.
