Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 2001;0(07):-
Objective To analyze the mutations of candidate WFS1 gene in the Chinese pedigree with Low frequency sensorineural hearing loss. Methods PCR were performed with fourteen pairs of primers in the coding sequence of WFS1 gene. The PCR products were subsequently sequenced in the 38 individuals of LFSNHL family for screening the gene mutations. Results The PCR amplification fragments showed well quality in the five pairs of primer, and further analysis with frequencing showed no polymorphism and mutations in the members. Conclusion The present study rule out the possibility that the deafness gene WFS1, which locates on the 4p16, lead up to the hearing loss of LFSNHL pedigree.

Objective The sensitivity and specificity of 18 FDG PET/CT are poor in the diagnosis of gastric cancer .Gastric signet ring cell carcinoma and Mucinous gastric carcinoma is known to have low fluorodeoxyglucose (18FDG) uptake, but not known for poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma .This study was to investigate the value of 18 FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis of poorly differ-entiated gastric adenocarcinoma . Methods We retrospectively analyzed the results of 18 FDG PET/CT of 34 cases of histologically confirmed poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma .We recorded the volume , location , and gastric wall invasion depth , and maxi-mum standardized uptake value ( SUVmax) of the tumors and analyzed the relationship of 18 FDG uptake with the clinicopathologic pa-rameters. Results By 18 FDG-PET/CT, poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma was diagnosed in only 67.6% of the patients (23/34).SUVmax was found to be significantly correlated with age , gastric wall invasion, and tumor size (P<0.05), but not with gender , tumor location , tumor pathologic subtype , lymph node metastasis , and distant metastasis ( P>0 .05 ) .Logistic regression a-nalysis showed the tumor size to be the sole factor influencing the 18 FDG uptake of poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma ( OR=0.37, 95%CI 0.154-0.920, P=0.03). Conclusion The di-agnostic value of 18 FDG-PET/CT is but limited for poorly differentia-ted gastric adenocarcinoma , and attention should be paid to its false-negative results .

To solve the problems in the illumination of the portable video monocular telescope for near-obser-vation. Some luminous lamp head and reflective lamp head were customerized for the telescope, and the lumi-nous lamp head was postpositively mounted at the side of the ocular lens, which or the reflective lamp head could be prepositively mounted at the side of the object lens. A wound pit on fresh pitaya was observed using portable video monocular telescope for near-observation equipped with illumination device or not. Luminous lamp head and re-flective lamp head custom-made was able to mount easily and gave the target ample illumination. Portable video monocular telescope for near-observation can be easily and cheaply equipped with luminous device giving ample il-lumination.

Objective: To explore the relationships between blood levels of osteopontin (OPN), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and cardiac function in patient with degenerative heart valve disease (DHVD). Methods: Our research included in 2 groups: DHVD group,n=120 relevant patients treated in our hospital from 2013-12 to 2015-02 and Control group,n=30 healthy subjects from physical examination in the same period of time. Based on blood levels of OPN, DHVD patients were further divided into 2 sub-groups as Normal OPN sub-group, the patients with 18.8 ng/ml ≤OPN≤ 30.0 ng/ml,n=35 and High OPN sub-group, the patients with OPN>30.0 ng/ml,n=85. OPN levels at prior treatment (T0) and 3 days (T1), 1 week (T2), 2 weeks (T3) after treatment were compared between DHVD group and Control group; BNP levels, cardiac outcome (CO), cardiac index (CI) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were also compared. The relationships between blood levels of OPN, BNP and cardiac function in DHVD patients were studied by Pearson correlation analysis. Results: Compared with Control group at T0 time point, High OPN sub-group showed increased blood levels of OPN and BNP, while decreased CO, CI and LVEF. Compared with Normal OPN sub-group, High OPN sub-group had the higher levels of OPN and BNP at all 4 time points, while lower levels of CO, CI and LVEF. In DHVD group, compared with T0 time point, OPN and BNP levels were decreased at T2 and T3 time points, while CO, CI and LVEF were increased, allP<0.05. Pearson correlation analysis presented that in DHVD patients, blood levels of OPN were positively related to BNP (r=0.936,P=0.00) and negatively related to CO, CI and LVEF (r=-0.869,r=-0.884 andr=-0.858 respectively, allP=0.00). Conclusion: DHVD patients had increased blood level of OPN which is related to BNP level and cardiac function; this might be because of OPN promoting heart valve calciifcation, inlfammatory reaction and myocardial injury. OPN could be used as a reference index for evaluating the cardiac function in DHVD patients.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2013;27(21):1167-1170
OBJECTIVE:
Synovial sarcoma (SS) of the head and neck is rare in comparison with those took place in the extremities. This study was planned to investigate the relationship between pathological diagnosis, tumor location and clinical outcome of SS of the head and neck.
METHOD:
Thirty-nine cases of SS in head and neck hospitalized in West China Hospital from 1966 to 2011 was retrospectively studied by reviewing the medical record data, the pathological slices of the operative specimen and followed-up from 1 to 192 months with the mean time of 43.2 months postoperatively. The parameters of clinical outcome were focused on the time to first recurrence after primary surgery and follow-up time. The reviewed results were statistically processed.
RESULT:
The age of the patients ranged from 8 to 66 years old with the median age of 35, among them 27 are males. Pathologically, 18 cases are biphasic, 17 cases are monophasic and 3 cases are low-differentiated SS. 4 cases were proved by cytogenetic methods of either fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH) or RT-PCR. 23 cases experienced repeated recurrence with the most up to 4 times operations after sole surgical approach. Only one lymphatic metastasis was suspected in all. 16 patients got adjuvant radiotherapy or chemotherapy. 4 patients died but only one death was associated directly with SS recurrence. There was no significant relationship between pathological subtype and recurrence (Fisher's Exact Test P-value > 0.05), no significant relationship between tumor location and recurrence (Fisher's Exact Test P-value > 0.05).
CONCLUSION
SS of head and neck is a special entity that has potential of easy recurrence but good prognosis. Surgery should still be the primary treatment approach. Cytogenetic methods are recommended to as certain the diagnosis in order to choose reasonable treatment protocols.
