ObjectiveTo explore adrenal insufficiency in the preterm infants who had critical lung diseases and the relationship between adrenal insufifciency and long-term or short-term prognosis.Methods The basal cortisol and ACTH of iffty preterm infants enrolled were tested. The peak cortisol at 30 minutes after low dose ACTH stimulation was tested. The adrenal insufifciency was deifned as the concentration of the basal cortisol less than 15 μg/dl or the increment of cortisol concentration after low dose ACTH stimulation less than 9 μg/dl. The pretern infants with adrenal insufifciency were the AI group and others were the adrenal normality, AN group.Results Thirty-one cases were adrenal insufifciency in 50 preterm infants with critical lung disease. The incidence was 62%. The concentrations of the basal and peak cortisol in AI group were lower than those in AN group (P<0.01). The increment of cortisol concentration after low dose ACTH stimulation had not signiifcant difference between two groups. The concentration of ACTH in AI group was lower than that in AN group (P<0.01). The mean arterial blood pressure in AI group was lower than that in AN group (P<0.01). The blood sugar, potassium and sodium had no signiifcant difference between two groups (P>0.05). There was no signiifcant difference in the mortality and the incidence of BPD between two groups (P>0.05).Conclusions The incidence of adrenal insufifciency was high in the preterm infants with critical lung diseases, which may be due to insufifcient production of endogenous ACTH. When the adrenal insufifciency was happened, the blood pressure is relatively low in preterm infants with critical lung diseases, but it was not related to the mortality and the incidence of BPD.

Objective: To investigate the mRNA and protein expression of cyclin E1 (CCNE1) in gastric carcinoma tissues, and to evaluate its relationship with the development and progression of gastric carcinoma. Methods: Oncomine (a cancer microarrays database) was used to analyze the expression of CCNE1 in gastric carcinoma. The mRNA expression of CCNE1 was detected in 34 paired carcinoma and adjacent normal tissues by SYBR Green real-time PCR. Meanwhile, tissue chip/tissue microarray (TMA) technique and immunohistochemistry method were adopted to detect the protein expression of CCNE1 in the 34 matched tissues. Results: The CCNE1 mRNA expression was significantly higher in the primary carcinoma tissues than that in adjacent normal tissues (P = 0.001); the CCNE1 mRNA expression levels in stage I + II and stage III + IV gastric cancer tissues were both significantly up-regulated (P = 0.042, P = 0.016). The positive rate of CCNE1 protein was significantly higher in primary carcinoma tissues (41.2%, 14/34) than those in the tumor-adjacent normal tissues (0, 0/34) and gastritis tissues (0, 0/34, P = 0.01). CCNE1 protein expression was significantly different in gastric cancer tissues of different differentiation degrees, invasion depths, and lymph node metastasis statues (P<0.05). Conclusion: Up-regulated expression of CCNE1 may contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of gastric carcinoma, and detection of CCNE1 may provide reference for diagnosis and prognosis of gastric carcinoma.

Background and purpose:There is growing evidence that metformin,a commonly used drug in the treatment of type Ⅱ diabetes,may impede the growth of human tumors.However in a recent study it was found that metformin treatment might result in promotion of the angiogenic phenotype and increase tumorigenic progression.In this study we investigated the effects of metformin on the migration and invasion abilities of human lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549 in vitro and explored the possible underlying mechanisms.Methods:A549 cells were treated with 0.5,2 and 8 mmol/L metformin for 72 hrs.The laterad-migration and invasion abilities of the cells in vitro were measured by scratch assay and Boyden-Chamber assay,respectively.Expressions of MMP2 and MMP9 mRNA of the cells before and after metformin treatment were measured by Real-time PCR.Results:The migration rate of A549 cells was increased after treated by metformin at the concentration of 8 mmol/L.The invasion ability was also signifi cantly increased by 8 mmol/L metformin treatment from 37.4?4.6 to 59.8?7.2(P

Objectives: To study the treatment outcome of mucoepidermoid carcinoma(MEC).Methods:128 cases of MEC with definite pathologic diagnosis treated in our hospital during the past 15 years were investigated. The relationship between the effects of the therapy and the prognosis was analysed.Result:Treatment with surgical operation only was used in 99 cases,radiotherapy after operation was applied in 26 cases and follow-up was carried out in 76 cases. 5-year survival rate was 90.7%.5 patients who died within 5 years after operation were all with the diagnosis of MEC in clinical stage Ⅳand poor differentiaton.Conclusion:The local extensive excision for the well differentiated MEC,the radiotherapy after operation for poorly differentiated or that of clinical stage Ⅳ,especially in maxilla,may increase 5-year survival rate.Since there were cases of recurrences of MEC 13 years after surgical treatment,long-term follow-up is necessary.

Filamentous fungi have been used in industrial fermentation extensively. Based on non-phosphorylating electron transport process, alternative respiration pathway (ARP) acts as an energy overflow, which can balance carbon metabolism and electron transport, allow the continuance of tricarboxylic acid cycle without the formation of ATP, and permit the turnover of carbon skeletons. Alternative respiration pathway also plays an important role in the stress response of fungi and the physiological function of conditioned pathogen. Alternative oxidase (AOX) is the terminal oxidase responsible for the activity of alternative respiration pathway, which exists widely in higher plants, parts of fungi and algae. Owing to the property that alternative oxidase (AOX) is sensitive to salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM) and insensitive to conventional inhibitors of cytochrome respiration, alternative respiration pathway by AOX is also named as cyanide-resistant respiration (CRR). In recent years, the study of the alternative respiration pathway and alternative oxidase has been a hot topic in the area involving cellular respiration metabolism. In this review we summarized the latest research advances about the functions of alternative respiration pathway and alternative oxidase in industrial fungi.

Objective To investigate the relationships between fetal neural tube defects (NTD) and maternal plasma homocysteine (Hcy) level,total nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS) activity.Methods A total of 28 pregnant women with clinically or prenatal ultrasound diagnosed NTD offspring in Shihezi City and its surrounding areas of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from January 6,2008 to May 23,2011 were enrolled as NTD group.Another 41 normal pregnant women,matched in corresponding area and period,were enrolled as the control group.The plasma level of Hcy was determined by rate method,and the activities of total NOS and iNOS were detected by spectrophotometry.Linear correlation analysis and t-test were used as statistical method.Results The plasma level of Hcy in NTD group was higher than that in the control group with statistically significant difference [(15.2±7.9) μmol/L vs (8.4±3.7) μmol/L,t=4.269,P＜0.01].The activity of total NOS was lower in the NTD group than that in the control group [(20.0±9.0) U/ml vs (26.0±4.1) U/ml,t=3.258],so was the activity of iNOS [(7.5±2.9) U/ml vs (12.0±4.5) U/ml,t=4.670],the differences were statistically significant (both P＜0.01).Linear correlation analysis showed a negative correlation between the level of Hcy and the activity of total NOS (r=0.325,P＜0.01),but no correlation was found with iNOS (r=0.205,P＞0.05).Conclusions High level of Hcy and low activity of NOS and iNOS might be correlated with fetal NTD.

Objective To investigate the pathogenic types and clinical features of children with lobar pneumonia. Methods Eighty children with lobar pneumonia diagnosed from April 2013 to May 2015 were enrolled. Bronchoalveolar lavage lfuid (BALF) of patients were collected. FQ-PCR was used to detect and analyze pathogens in BALF. Results In 80 cases, 59 cases were Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and 2 cases were Chlamydia pneumoniae, 12 cases were Streptococcus pneumoniae, 1 case was Klebsiella pneumoniae, 8 cases were adenovirus, 1 case was respiratory syncytial virus, 14 cases were of mixed infection. The prevalence of MP lobar pneumonia in children of 7-14 years old age group were higher than that of other age groups. Conclusions The pathogen of children with lobar pneumonia varied from Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, bacteria, virus and so on, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae was the common pathogen in lobar pneumonia.

Background and purpose:Metformin is known to be an insulin sensitization agent and is a fi rst line treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes. Recent clinical studies have revealed that metformin treatment has been associated with reduced cancer risk,which indicated that metformin may be a potential anti-neoplastic agent. We investigated the effects of antidiabetic drug metformin on proliferation and apoptosis in human lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549 in vitro and explored the possible underlying mechanisms. Methods:A549 cells were treated with 0.5 mmol/L,2 mmol/L and 8 mmol/L metformin for 48 hrs. Growth inhibition rates of the cells were measured by MTT assay. Cell apoptosis were detected by ? ow cytometery(FCM). Expressions of three genes including p53,Bcl-2 and Bax mRNA in the cells were measured by Real-Time PCR. Results:The proliferation of A549 cells was inhibited by metformin in a dose-dependent manner. The Inhibition rates of metformin at dosage of 0.5 mmol/L,2 mmol/L and 8 mmol/L group were (29?5)%,(68?3)% and (84.1?2.6)%,respectively. Apoptosis was induced when the cells were treated with moderate to high concentrations of metformin.The percentage of cells in early and late stage of apoptosis was increased from (1.1?0.3)% and (1.78?0.22)% in controlled group to (2.1?0.5)% and (9?4)% in metformin 8 mmol/ L group,respectively. The expressions of p53,Bcl-2 and Bax mRNA were all up-regulated after metformin treatment while the Bcl-2/Bax ratio was signifi cantly decreased. Conclusion:Metformin can inhibit the proliferation of human adenocarcinoma cancer cell line A549 and induce cell apoptosis with moderate to high drug concentrations in vitro,which may partly be attributed to the up-regulation of p53 and down-regulation of the Bcl-2/Bax ratio.
