Obesity is rapidly becoming a pandemic and is associated with increased carcinogenesis, especially hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Adipose tissue has been considered as an endocrine organ because of its capacity to secrete a wide variety of adipokines, such as leptin, adiponectin and resistin.Recently, adipokines have been demonstrated to be associated with many kinds of chronic liver diseases, liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, and carcinogenesis.Direct evidence supporting the inhibitory and/or activating role of adipokines in the process of carcinogenesis and progression of human HCC has been rapidly accumulating. This review aims to provide important insights into the potential mechanisms of adipokines in the development of HCC.Further investigations will shed light on a new therapeutic target in HCC.

Objective To assess the feasibility of interventional techniques in the establishment of animal model of superior mesenteric vein-portal vein (SMV-PV) thrombosis. Methods Nine miniature pigs were involved in the study including one for preliminary experiment. After general anesthesia, a balloon catheter was placed in the main trunk of PV to block the portal flow and then thrombin or autologous blood clot was injected to the SMV. Venography was performed to confirm the thrombosis 30 minutes later. Changes in the imaging before and after the thrombosis were observed. Pigs died during the experiment were anatomized to analyze the causes, and pathological examination was performed when necessary. Results The model of SMV-PV thrombosis was successfully established in all the pigs. One pig died of diffuse intravascular coagulation 10 minutes after model establishment in the preliminary experiment. Two pigs died of hepatorrhexis and over dose of anesthetics respec-tively 3 hours after model establishment, and the rest 6 pigs were fed for 14 days. Conclusion Interventional techniques are effective in the establishment of SMV-PV thrombosis model.

Journal of Interventional Radiology 2006;0(12):-
Objective To study blood supply by the internal mammary artery(IMA)for hepatic carcinoma and evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)via IMA. Methods 86 cases of hepatic cancer(HCC)fed by the IMA underwent TACE of the IMA.All of the patients had previously undergone several TACE for HCC.16 patients had undertaken percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy in addition to TAE.4 patients had a history of surgery for upper abdomen.Plain and enhanced CT and MRI scannings were performed before operation.Internal mammary arteriography was carried out during the interventional procedure to clarify the feeding range and then the superselected catheterization of the feeding branch was done with TACE.The IMA angiographic features, tumor location, clinical observation, laboratory tests, imageology were evaluated, and finally were correlated with the angiographic findings of the IMA.Results All lesions were massive type and located at the ventral aspect and subcapsular region of the liver:57 cases in segment 4,5,8,and 29 cases in segment 5,7,8.Recurrent HCCs were supplied by the right IMA in 80 cases, from the left IMA in 5 cases and with the bilateral IMA in 1 case.Lipiodol-TACE of the IMA for HCC can be performed without skin complications in cases of subselective catheterization. Conclusion Tumors located ventrally and superficially in the liver may recruit blood supply through IMA collaterals, often occurring in massive type of HCC after several times of TACE.TACE of IMA is safe and has become technically feasible in almost all patients, although cutaneous damage should be cautious during the interventional procedure.(J Intervent Radiol,2007,16:816-819)

Objective To observe the effects ofXiangsha Liujunzi Decoction (XSLJZ) on levels and mRNA of IL-6, IL-10 and protein expression of HSP70 of gastric mucosa in chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) rats with spleen-stomach deficiency; To discuss its mechanism. Methods Rats were divided into 2 groups through random number table: normal group and model group. The model of CAG rat with spleen-stomach deficiency type was induced by synthetic methods. After successful modeling, rats were divided into model group, positive control group, XSLJZ high-, medium-, low-dose group. Rats in normal and model group received distilled water 10 mL/(kg?d) for gavage; XSLJZ high-, medium-, low-dose group received XSLJZ 24, 12, 6 g/(kg?d), respectively; positive control group received mycin 0.30 g/(kg?d) for gavage for 120 consecutive days. Generally living conditions, levels and mRNA of IL-6, IL-10 and protein expression of HSP70 in gastric mucosa tissue were detected by protein immunoblotting. Results Compared with the normal group, generally living conditions of rats in the model group were poor; mRNA and the content of IL-6 increased significantly, and mRNA and the content of IL-10 decreased significantly (P<0.05,P<0.01); mRNA and protein expression of HSP70 in gastric tissues was much lower than that of normal group (P<0.05,P<0.01). Compared with model group, generally living conditions of rats in the XSLJZ high-dose groups were improved significantly; mRNA and the content of IL-6 decreased significantly, and mRNA and the content of IL-10 increased significantly (P<0.05); XSLJZ high-, medium-dose groups mRNA and protein expression of HSP70 in gastric tissues increased significantly(P<0.05).Conclusion XSLJZ has protective effects on gastric mucosa of CAG rats with spleen-stomach deficiency.

Objective: To compare the effects of pericardium patch aortoplasty and pulmonary patch aortoplasty for treating the infants with aorticcoarctation (AC) combining hypoplastic aortic arch in order to provide a better surgical choice in clinical practice.
Methods: A total of 57 patients with AC combining hypoplastic aortic arch treated in our hospital from 2009-01 to 2014-12 were retrospectively studied. The patients were divided into 2 groups: Pericardium patch aortoplasty group,n=26 and Pulmonary patch aortoplasty group,n=31. The changes of the pressure gradient at post-operation and follow-up period were compared.
Results: There were 2/57 (3.5%) patients died, 1 in Pericardium patch aortoplasty group by pulmonary hypertension crisis, the other 1 in Pulmonary patch aortoplasty group by respiratory distress syndrome. No renal failure or neurological complication occurred in neither groups. The cardiopulmonary bypass time, aortic clamping time, ventilator time and ICU stay time were similar between 2 groups,P>0.05. Selective cerebral perfusion time in Pericardium patch aortoplasty group was shorter than Pulmonary patch aortoplasty group (30.5 ± 8.6) s vs (35.6 ± 10.3) s,P<0.05. By ultrasound estimation, the post-operative AC pressure gradients were decreased than they were before, as in Pericardium patch aortoplasty group (9.5 ± 7.5) mmHg vs (39.9 ± 15.5) mmHg and in Pulmonary patch aortoplasty group (11.8 ± 11.3) mmHgvs (39.2 ± 14.5) mmHg, bothP<0.05; while post-operative pressure gradients were similar between 2 groups,P>0.05. Follow-up study was conducted in 51 patients for (17.6 ± 16.6) months, Pericardium patch aortoplasty group had 6 patients with re-stenosis, 3 of them would receive balloon angioplasty and 3 would be continuously followed-up; Pulmonary patch aortoplasty group had 6 patients with re-stenosis, 2 of them ifnished balloon angioplasty and their pressure gradients were obviously decreased, 4 would be continuously followed-up. Kaplan-Meier curves presented that Pulmonary patch aortoplasty group was superior to Pericardium patch aortoplasty group in re-stenosis occurrence during follow-up period.
Conclusion: Both pericardium patch aortoplasty and pulmonary patch aortoplasty were effective for treating the patients with AC combining hypoplastic aortic arch, the early post-operative efifcacy was similar, while the mid-term follow-up result was better in pulmonary patch aortoplasty.
