Objective To investigate the association between malnutrition parameters and serum N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level in male patients aged ≥ 80 years with normal ejection fraction.Methods A total of 197 elderly male patients aged 80 95 years (average 85.4±9.7) were enrolled.Each patient received echocardiograms following admission,and ejection fraction was calculated.Serum concentrations of NT-proBNP were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay.Multiple Logistic regression analyses and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to assess the association between malnutrition parameters and serum level of NT-proBNP.Results Serum NT-proBNP level was higher in patients with malnutrition than in the controls [(711.9±1063.3) ng/L vs.(1375.2-±1891.7) ng/L,P=0.006].Pearson correlation analysis showed that the malnutrition parameters such as body mass index (BMI),blood hemoglobin,albumin and pre-albumin were negatively correlated with serum NT proBNP level (all P＜0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that BMI and serum pre albumin level were independently associated with serum NT-proBNP level elevation (P=0.028 and 0.006,respectively).ROC curve analysis showed that the malnutrition parameters could predict the serum NT-proBNP level elevation.The area under the ROC curves for BMI,levels of blood hemoglobin,albumin and prealbumin in predicting serum NT proBNP level elevation was 0.7 (P=0.002),0.7 (P=0.004),0.6 (P=0.036),0.6 P=0.002),the sensitivity was 75.5％,51.0％,38.8％,89.8％,and the specificity was 54.4％,70.2 ％,84.2％ and 31.6 ％,respectively.Conclusions The malnutrition parameters including BMI,blood hemoglobin,albumin and pre-albumin can predict serum NT-proBNP level elevation.BMI and serum pre-albumin level are independently associated with serum NT-proBNP level elevation in male patients aged ≥ 80 years with normal ejection fraction.

Objective:To evaluate the quality and the effectiveness of therapeutic studies on chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis published in Chinese journals by means of evidence-based medicine. Methods:Relevant papers were searched in Chinese Biological Medical Disc (CBMDisc)database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) database. Papers using randomized controlled trials (RCT) were identified and analyzed according to the international standards of evidence-based medicine. Results:There were totally 98 articles focusing on therapeutic studies of chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis and only 22 of them met RCT criteria. Study design, diagnostic standards, therapeutic effects and adverse effects decribed in those 22 papers were fully evaluated by means of evidence-based medicine. Conclusions:Research quality of the analyzed papers could not meet clinical needs and Meta analysis could not been done due to their low quantity and poor quality. However, as far as the published articles concerned, GM-CSF showed a good short-term treatment effect.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Sub-tenon's anesthesia for compound trabeculectomy with high intraocular pressure.
METHODS: Forty - six eyes ( 46 cases ) of primary glaucoma received compound trabeculectomy under Sub-tenon's anesthesia, whose preoperative intraocular pressure were higher than normal after 24 to 48h of combined medication. Both efficacy and complication of the anesthesia were studied.
RESULTS: One minute after anesthetic injection, all cases were able to achieve the effect of analgesia and eye brake. During the operation, 0 level of anesthesia effect included 35 eyes ( 76%) , 1 level of anesthesia effect included 10 eyes ( 22%) , 2 level of anesthesia effect included 1 eye(2%). Only 1 case of these patients needed to add the surface anesthetic once, and other cases were successfully operatedunder Sub-tenon's anesthesia. The total effective rate was 98%. No anesthesia complications occurred in all cases.
CONCLUSION: Sub - Tenon's anesthesia is safe, effective, simple and quick for compound trabeculectomy with high intraocular pressure.

AIM: To investigate the difference of cognitive impairment and depression between age-related macular degeneration ( AMD ) group and the control group patients. ·METHODS: A prospective case-control study was performed from November 2014 to August 2016 in the hospital for AMD patients and sex-matched control group. The Mini-Mental State Examination ( MMSE) and the Geriatric Depression Scale ( GDS ) score of each patient were collected for statistical analyzing. ·RESULTS: There were total 84 cases ( 168 eyes ) included in the study. The difference of visual acuity between the two group was statistically significant ( F=8. 953, P=0. 004) by baseline data analyzing. There were no significant differences in MMSE scores between the two groups according to educational status ( P>0. 05 ) , while the prevalence of cognitive impairment in each group was statistically significant (x2 =4. 14, P=0. 042). The difference of GDS scores, prevalence of total and mild depression between two groups were both statistically significant (F=5. 852, P=0. 018; x2=6. 372, P=0. 012; x2 = 5. 674, P = 0. 017 ). However, there was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of moderate to severe depression (x2=0. 672, P=0. 412). ·CONCLUSION: AMD patients have a higher prevalence of depression. Although MMSE score differences were not statistically significant in subgroup analysis by educational levels, AMD patients are more likely to have cognitive impairment overall.

The study provide a theoretical basis for the industrial production of a elastase-high-yield strain which was isolated from the straw,and the selected strain was identified. The screening strategy included casein(skim milk) plate selecting and elastin(beef tendon) re-screening. And then,the morphological,physiological and biochemical characteristics as well as 16S rRNA sequence homology of the selected strain were studied. Finally,the strain LSF-97 which had a excellent decomposing ability to beef tendon was obtained. The results showed that the strain LSF-97 is relative to the Bacillus pumilus with 100 % similar in sequence under the phylogenetic tree,the morphological and physiological and biochemical characteristics are also consistent with pattern of bacteria. So it was identified as Bacillus pumilus.

Objective Though measuring the expression levels of blood aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and cytochrome P-450 1A1 (CYP1A1),to explore the relationship between the expression levels and chronic arsenic poisoning induced skin changes.Methods Totally 233 residents were selected in Hanggin Rear Banner arsenic exposure area of Bayannur City,according to water arsenic concentrations,these people were divided into control (＜ 10 μg/L,55 people),low (10-＜ 100 μg/L,47),medium (100-＜ 200 μg/L,45) and high (≥200 pg/L,86) arsenic exposure groups.Real-time PCR was used to detect the expression levels of blood AhR and CYP1A1 mRNA,which were presented in median and quartile [M (Q1-Q3)],and the relationships between their expression levels and keratosis,depigmentation of skin were analyzed.Results The relative expression levels of AhR and CYP1A1 mRNA in high-dose groups were 3.18 × 10-3 (2.42 × 10-3-4.45 × 10-3) and 1.58 × 10-3 (0.80 ×10-3-2.73 × 10-3),which were higher than those in control groups [2.30 × 10-3 (1.53 × 10-3-3.20 × 10-3) and 1.00 × 10-3 (0.59 × 10-3-2.09 × 10-3)],and the difference were statistically significant (all P ＜ 0.05).Compared with control group,the detectable rates of arsenic poisoning,keratosis and depigmentation of skin were higher,and the differences were statistically significant (x2 =20.187,15.848,21.595,all P ＜ 0.05).The detectable rates of arsenic poisoning,keratosis and depigmentation of skin were increased with increase of water arsenic concentrations (x2 =19.012,15.269,16.868,all P ＜ 0.05).Compared with normal [2.54 × 10-3 (1.79 × 10-3-3.43 × 10-3),2.57 × 10-3 (1.78 × 10-3-3.52 × 10-3)],AhR mRNA relative expression levels [4.45 × 10-3 (3.47 × 10-3-8.04 × 10-3),4.45 × 10-3 (4.02 × 10-3-6.25 × 10-3)] of degree Ⅲ keratosis and depigmentation of skin were increased,and the differences were statistically significant (all P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Chronic arsenic exposure affects the expression level of AhR and CYP1A1 mRNA.Blood AhR mRNA expression may have relationship with endemic arsenic poisoning induced skin change,but blood CYP1A1 mRNA expression may have nothing to do with endemic arsenic poisoning induced skin change.

Objective To explore the significance of cerebrospinal fluid lactic acid (LA) and beta2-microglobulin (β2-MG) on the diagnosis of bacterial meningitis,and study their values compared with white blood cell (WBC) or protein in cerebrospinal fluid.Methods Thirty patients with bacterial meningitis were selected as bacterial meningitis group,and 30 surgical patients requiring spinal anesthesia were as control group.The level of cerebrospinal fluid LA was detected by Vitros950 automatic analyzer,and the level of cerebrospinal fluid β2-MG was detected by automatic AIA1800 enzyme immune analyzer.SPSS 13.0 and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) was used to analyze the data.Results The cerebrospinal fluid LA level in bacterial meningitis group was 1.53 (0.50) mmol/L,in control group was 1.11 (0.34) mmol/L,and there was statistical difference (P ＜ 0.05).The cerebrospinal fluid β 2-MG level in bacterial meningitis group was 2.61 (1.00) mg/L,in control group was 0.83 (0.45) mg/L,and there was statistical difference (P ＜ 0.01).For bacterial meningitis diagnosis,the areas under the ROC curve of cerebrospinal fluid WBC,protein,LA and β2-MG were 0.760,0.936,0.705 and 0.960.The best boundary value of LA in bacterial meningitis diagnosis was 1.78 mmol/L with a sensitivity of 68.0％ and specificity of 88.9％.The best boundary value of β2-MG in bacterial meningitis diagnosis was 1.756 mg/L,with a sensitivity of 92.0％ and specificity of 99.4％.Conclusions Both cerebrospinal fluid LA and β 2-MG is valuable in the diagnosis of bacterial meningitis.But for the diagnostic value,cerebrospinal fluid LA is not as good as WBC or protein in cerebrospinal fluid,but β2-MG is better than them.It has high sensitivity and specificity.

Objective To elucidate the airway inflammation status in mice infected with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and whether the inflammation could be alleviated by small interference RNA (siRNA) targeting specific RSV gene. MethodsBALB/c mice were infected with RSV via intranasal instillation of RSV suspension, and were then treated with specific siRNA targeting RSV-M2 gene. ELISA assay was used to detect the levels of IFN-γ, IL-12 and IL-10 and Microscope was used to count white blood cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF). ResultsAfter RSV infection, a significant increase in leukocytes count was observed in BALF. Differential count showed a rise in the percentage of neutrophils, eosinophil, especially lymphocytes and a reduction of the percentage of monocytes and macrophages( P＜0.05 ).The levels of IFN-γ, IL-12 and IL-10 were also increased(P＜0.05). Furthermore, the leukocytes count,the percentage of lymphocytes, neutrophils and eosinophil, and the levels of IFN-γ, IL-12 and IL-10in BALF were decreased accordingly while the mice were given higher concentrations of siRNA ( P＜0.05 ).Conclusion RSV caused airway inflammation in BALB/c mice, which may be alleviated by RNAi technology.
