Subclinicalhypothyroidism(SCH)maybeassociatedwithcarotidatherosclerosis, dyslipidemia, hypertension, hyperhomocysteinemia, and coronary heart disease, and these factors are often regarded as the risk factors for ischemic stroke. The correlation betw een SCH and the risk of stroke remains unclear now . The hypothesis of SCH increasing the risk of stroke has not been confirmed. Even studies have show n that SCH may have a beneficial effect for the prognosis of stroke. This article review s the relationships betw een SCH and risk factors for stroke, and risk of stroke and prognosis.
2.Research in effectiveness evaluation indicator for thoracic close drainage system

Objective To establish a scientific, objective and practical evaluation scale for thoracic close drainage system. Methods Based on the evidence-based practice and related documents, the indicators of efficiency for thoracic close drainage system were identified tentatively. Then Delphi method was used and 23 experts were investigated and consulted by two rounds. Results The index of experts activity was 92% and 100% in the first and second round of Delphi consultation, respectively. The scale comprised 50 indicators in 3 dimensions, the experts' authority coefficient was 0.987. Conclusions The reliability and authority of the scale are acceptable and it can be used to evaluate the efficiency of thoracic close drainage system.
3.Protective effect of Bu Shen Yang Xue Ming Mu Formula on oxidative injury in ARPE-19 cells

AIM: To explore the effect of Bu Shen Yang Xue Ming Mu (BSYXMM) Formula on hydroquinone-induced oxidative stress injury in ARPE-19 cells.METHODS: The oxidative injury model of ARPE-19 cell was induced by exposure to various concentrations of hydroquinone (HQ) to determine the optimal concentration.Intestinal absorption solutions of BSYXMM Formula were prepared.Effect of intestinal absorption solutions of BSYXMM Formula on the cell viability was detected by CCK-8 assay,and the percentage of apoptotic cells was measured by TUNEL assay.The levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in ARPE-19 cells were detected by means of chemical colorimetry.RESULTS: It was found that ARPE-19 cell viability significantly decreased when the concentration of HQ was higher than 90μmol/L.Compared with the model group,1% and 2% intestinal absorption solutions in the pre-treatment group could significantly alleviate HQ-induced injury (P<0.01) and 0.5% and 5% intestinal absorption solutions in the pre-treatment group could alleviate the injury in certain degree(P<0.05).While in the treatment group 1% and 2% intestinal absorption solutions could alleviate the injury to some extent (P<0.05).TUNEL results showed that the apoptosis rate decreased significantly in the pre-treatment group (P<0.01)and to some extent in the treatment group (P<0.05)compared with the model group.It was shown that both levels of SOD and GSH-Px in pre-treatment group and treatment group were markedly higher than that of model group(P<0.05),and pre-treatment group had more significant effect (P<0.01,P<0.05).CONCLUSION: BSYXMM Formula could protect against HQ-induced oxidative stress injury in ARPE-19 cells,which may be related with the increasing of antioxidant enzyme in the cells.
5.The clinical effectiveness of a calcium sodium phosphosilicate desensitizer in reducing root-dentin hypersensitivity in the elderly

Objective To observe the clinical effectiveness of calcium sodium phosphosilicate desensitizer for the treatment of root-dentin hypersensitivity.Methods This was a randomized,single-blind,placebo controlled pilot study.135 subjects,a total of 215 teeth with a confirmed diagnosis of root-dentin hypersensitivity were randomly divided into three groups:group 1 (patients treated with 100% calcium sodium phosphosilicate powder with 7% calcium sodium phosphosilicate toothpaste),group 2 (patients treated with a placebo powder with 7 % calcium sodium phosphosilicate toothpaste),group 3 (patients treated with a placebo powder vith 0.11% NaF toothpaste).Two standard test stimuli,cool air and cold water,were applied to sensitive root surfaces.Subjects recorded the intensity of sensitivity in response to each stimulus on a visual analogue scale (VAS) at baseline,immediately after powder application and after 2,4 and 6 weeks of twice-daily product use.Results The VAS values stimulated by cool air immediately,and 2,4 and 6 weeks after the treatment were [[(4.87±1.98),(3.85±1.09),(2.03±1.16),(0.59±0.51),respectivly] in Group 1; [(6.35±1.84),(4.83±0.75),(3.17±1.12),(1.45±0.91),respectively] in Group 2; [(6.83±0.78),(6.73±1.54),(5.441.58),(4.18±0.98),respectively] in Group 3.The VAS values stimulated by cold water immediately,and after 2,4 and 6 of treatment were [(6.43±1.01),(4.95±1.21),(3.06±0.86),(1.38±0.92),respectively] in Group 1; [(7.72±0.56),(5.65±0.69),(3.81±0.41),(2.17±0.58),respectively] inGroup2; [(8.380.89),(8.17±1.02),(7.99±0.74),(6.46±0.77),respectively] in Group 3.Compared with before treatment,there were significant differences in VAS values stimulated by the two tests at all time points in Group 1,and after 2,4 and 6 weeks of treatment in Group 2 (all P <0.05).Group 3 had significant differences in VAS values stimulated by cool air after 4 and 6 weeks of treatment,and had a significant difference in VAS values stimulated by cold water after 6 weeks of treatment (all P<0.05).There were significant differences between group 1 and group 2 in the hypersensitivity reduction over baseline by two stimuli at all time point.Conclusions The 7% calcium sodium phosphosilicate toothpaste shows a good performance in relieving the root dentin hypersensitivity.Moreover,the 100% calcium sodium phosphosilicate powder can enhance the effectiveness of the 7% calcium sodium phosphosilicate toothpaste.

AIM: The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) has been acknowledged as a simple and feasible study method of evaluating cardiorespiratory function, motor ability and quality of life in all testees. This study was designed to evaluate the value of 6MWT in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). METHODS: ①Fifty patients diagnosed with COPD were enrolled from Department of Respiratory Medicine in the Second Clinical Medical College of Jinan University from January 2001 to December 2006, including 34 males and 16 females, with a mean age of (70.1?8.9) years; and 62 patients with other diseases admitted in Department of Respiratory Medicine were taken as controls, including 30 males and 32 females, with a mean age of (66.5?10.1) years. Informed consents were obtained from all testees.②All patients were tested with 6MWT, lung function and MRC dyspnea scale, and the results were conducted for t test, ROC curve analysis, linear correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysis. Pearson correlation coefficient was also calculated. 7.The effects of heat-treatment on the flexible strength of a novel dental mica-glass-ceramic

Objective:In order to optimize the crystallization technics, the effects of heat-treatment on the flexible strength and microstructure of a novel dental mica glass-ceramic were studied in present study. Methods:7 groups were treated respectively with different crystallization temperature and different crystallization time.Then the flexible strength, X-ray diffraction (XRD)and scanning electron microscope(SEM) were used to study the flexible strength and microstructure of such a novel dental mica glass-ceramic. Results: The result of the study indicated that along with the rise of crystallizing temperature and crystallizing time, this dental mica glass-ceramic showed the peak of bending strength (173.68 MPa) at 680 ℃ for 120 min.Conclusion:This material is promising as esthetic all-ceramic dental material.
8.An analysis on influencing factors of elders' medical consumption behavior under the back-ground of pension combined with medical service:A case study of Nanjing

Objective: Under the background of pension combined with medical service, for the elders to reasonably, effectively and fully utilize the medical resources, it is of vital significance to establish good medical con-sumptive behavior and consumption intention, to promote healthy old age and improve elders' health and happiness to help them cultivate a fine habit in their practical life. Methods: Based on the micro-survey data of investigation in Nanjing, this paper systematically analyzed the factors influencing elders' medical consumption behavior by using the theory of planned behavior and structural equation model. Results:Different factors were classified into behavioral at-titudes, subjective norms and perceived behavior control, and significant variables were found out through behavior model as well as though measuring their relative effects. Conclusion: There is no significant casual relationship be-tween the perceived behavior control and medical consumption behavioral intention. The elders' medical consumption behavior intention is affected by various social network relationships. The belief strength, normative belief, behavioral attitudes and subject norms can affect elders' medical consumption behavior.
9.The impact of activin A neutralizing antibody on mRNA expression of cytokines in murine liver tissue

Objective To verify the effect of activin A neutralizing antibody (AANA) on inhibition of hepatic fibrosis and mRNA expression of various cytokines. Methods Mouse hepatic fibrosis model was induced by CCl_4. Male Kun-ming mice were divided into 5 groups: normal control group,olive oil control group, CCl_4 model group, AANA group and antibody control group. The mRNA expressions of activin A, transfer growth factor (TGF)-?_1, platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinas (TIMP)-1 in liver tissue were determined by semiquantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) analysis. 10.Anatomical Variations of the Nose in Children Receiving Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Objective To evaluate the outcomes of endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) for children with chronic rhinosinusitis, who had no response to medication. Methods A total of 112 children (aged 12 to 17 years) with chronic rhinosinusitis caused by abnormal anatomy of the nose cavity were treated by ESS in our hospital. Septorhinoplasty was performed on the patients under an endoscope. Conchoplasty, adenoidectomy, or nasal polypectomy was performed simultaneously if necessary. Results The patients were followed up for 6-23 months (mean 13 months). The symptoms of rhinosinusitis disappeared in 110 patients (98.2%); whereas the other 2 patients showed no obvious improvement after the operation. Conclusions By using microinvasive ESS combined with conchoplasty, children with rhinosinusitis caused by abnormal anatomy that does not respond to medication could be cured.
