Objective:To investigate the neuro psychological characteristics and their change in leukoaraiosis(LA).M ethods:29 asymotamatic LA sub jects and 25 normal controls were compared on a comprehensive neuropsychological test battery, which included Revised Visual Retention Test(VRT),Wechsler Adult I n telligence Scale-Revised in China(WAIS-RC),and Zung's Self-rated Depression Scal e (SDS).Both groups were matched for sex,age and education. Results:The LA group s cored lower on the VRT than did the control group ,and the mean standard score o f the Memory and/or Freedom From Distractibility factor(MFSs)of the WAIS-RC in t he LA group was lower than that of the control group. There were no significant d ifferences o f the Full Scale IQ of the WAIS-RC and the score of the SDS between the two grou ps. Conclusion:LA may contribute to cogniti ve impairment in the neurologically healthy elderly, especially involving deficits of visuospatial ability ,disfunct ion of memory and attention,as well as slowing of mental processing.
3.Inhibitory effect of Meloxicam on the cultured fibroblasts from the excised pterygium
International Eye Science 2006;6(1):5-8
AIM: To investigate the association between cycloxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression and VEGF intervention as well as the inhibitory effect of Meloxicam on the cultured human pterygium fibroblasts (HPF).METHODS: Expression of COX-2 was measured by immunohistochemistry in the cultured HPF from twenty excised pterygium cases. Expression of COX-2 in HPF was measured by Western blot following the treatment of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) at the different concentrations. In addition, the effect of Meloxicam on proliferation of HPF was studied by adding the different concentrations into the cultured HPF plates by Mono-nuclear cell direct cytotoxicity (MTT) reduction assay.RESULTS: COX-2 expression was present in the cultured HPF. The level of the expression increased following VEGF treatment. The proliferation of the cultured HPF decreased following addition of the different concentrations of Meloxicam (from 75μ mol/L to 300μ mol/L) and the magnitude of the inhibition was dose-time dependent.CONCLUSION: COX-2 levels in the cultured HPF werepositively associated with VEGF stimulation and Meloxicam was inhibitory to HPF proliferation.

Objective To evaluate the anti-tumor activity of interferon ? with different structures including pegylated interferon ?-1b (PEG IFN ?-1b), pegylated interferon ?-2b (PEG IFN ?-2b) and natural interferon ? (IFN ?) in male BALB/C nude mice with human renal adencarcinoma (ACHN) tumor. Methods Athymic BALB/C nude mice were received a subcutaneous injection of ACHN cells (2?106/0.2ml) on the rear flank. After four weeks, the size of tumor reached a mean volume of 50-100 mm3, and the interferon was administrated. The mice with tumor were divided into four groups, and were administrated with placebo (0.2ml/mouse thrice weekly), IFN ?-1b (50?g/mouse thrice weekly), PEG IFN ?-1b (150?g/mouse once weekly) and PEG IFN?-2b (150?g/mouse once every week), respectively, for five weeks. The tumor volumes were measured weekly prior to treatments until the end of the fifth week. All mice in each group were sacrificed to measure the weight of the residual tumor. The anti-tumor activity of IFN ? in vivo was evaluated by studying their ability to reduce the volume and weight of tumor. Results IFN ? may significantly reduce the volume and weight of ACHN tumor in mice. The average tumor weight was 0.422g in placebo group, while 0.263g, 0.235g and 0.219g in the groups treated with PEG IFN ?-1b, IFN ?-1b and PEG IFN ?-2b, respectively. No significant difference was found among the three groups treated with IFN ?. Moreover, the volume of tumor in three groups treated with IFN ? was significant reduced than that in placebo group. Conclusion IFN ? with different structures have showed the similar ability of ACHN tumor suppression at the dosage of 150?g per week.

27 cases with acute severe cholangitis were treate d in our department last year. Among them, 3 cases died. Death rate is 11.l %. The patients records about the age, disease cause and operative treatment were analyzed. Results showed: It is the key of acute severe Cholangitis treatment to break virulent circulation which is made by bile duct obstruction as soon as possible. Resisting shock treatment ought to be carried out at the same time when preoperative preparation is done. Shock resist isnt standard whether we shall perform the operation. At one time, protecting organ function and postoperative complications preventing and treatment ought to insist.

Objective To evaluate the short term and long term clinical effect of internal iliac arterial chemotherapy (IIAC) followed by surgery for invasive bladder cancer. Methods Fifty six patients with invasive bladder cancer were preoperatively treated by IIAC with cisplatin (100 mg/m 2) and adriamycin (30 mg/m 2).All the cases received IIAC twice with 3 to 4 weeks interval. Two weeks after the second chemotherapy, the patients were examined by ultrasound and cystoscopy.Bladder preserving operation or radical cystectomy was performed according to clinical stages and grades of the bladder cancer. Results Two weeks after IIAC,down staging was observed in 42 patients (75%),and no change or increase in volume and stage were observed in 14 patients (25%).After IIAC TURBt was performed on 21 patients, partial cystectomy on 5,and radical cystectomy on 28 depending on the rumor size and clinical stages. The 1 ,2 ,3 ,5 year disease free survival rate in evaluative 40 patients was 85.0%,70.0%,57.5%,50.0%,respectively. Conclusions IIAC as a neoadjuvant chemotherapy has the possibility of down staging the cancer, which provides the chance of bladder preserving operations for invasive bladder cancer, and the possibility of radical cystectomy for high stage (T 3b ~T 4) bladder cancer.IIAC followed by surgery can effectively improve the disease free survival rate for invasive bladder cancer.
