Objective To investigate the effect of Doxycycline on gastric cancer cell line BGC-823 proliferation and Notch1, Matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9)expression in order to shine a light on new anticancer drugs. Methods Final concentration of 0, 5, 10, 20, 40 mg/L doxycycline were added into human gastric cancer cell line BGC-823. Cell pro-liferation was detected by MTT;Cell cycle distribution was assessed by flow cytometry;Notch1, MMP-9 protein expression was revealed by Immunoblot. Results Doxycycline can inhibit proliferation of human gastric cancer cells line BGC-823, and its effect is dose and time-dependent(P＜0.01). Doxycycline alters distribution of gastric cancer cell line BGC-823. With increasing drug concentration, the proportion of cells in S phase dropped(P＜0.01). Notch1 expression rose and MMP-9 expression decreased(P＜0.01). Conclusion Doxycyclinecan inhibited gastric cancer cell line BGC-823 prolif-eration and up-regulating Notch1 might be one mechanisms.

Forkhead box Q1 (FoxQ1) is a transcription factor protein with the function of cell differentiation regulation.Recently,increasing evidence has demonstrated that FoxQ1 is significantly associated with pathogenesis of digestive system tumors.This article systematically reviewed the expression and the role of FoxQ1 in the pathogenesis of digestive system tumors.Potential therapeutic target of FoxQ1 was discussed as well.

Objective:To study the public health Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs)in the US, the European Union, the UK and Australia, and summarize the good practice for the improvement of National Health Emergency Response Command Center in Chinese National Health and Family Planning Commission.Methods:Literature review was conducted to explore the EOCs of selected countries.Results:The study focused on EOC function, organizational structure, human resources and information management. The selected EOCs had the basic EOC functions of coordinating and commanding as well as the public health related functions such as monitoring the situation, risk assessment, and epidemiological briefings. The organizational structures of the EOCs were standardized, scalable and flexible. Incident Command System was the widely applied organizational structure with a strong preference. The EOCs were managed by a unit of emergency management during routine time and surge staff were engaged upon emergencies. The selected EOCs had clear information management framework including information collection, assessment and dissemination.Conclusions:The performance of National Health Emergency Response Command Center can be improved by learning from the good practice of the selected EOCs, including setting clear functions, standardizing the organizational structure, enhancing the human resource capacity and strengthening information management.

Objective:To investigate the expression of transforming growth factor-?1 (TGF-?1) in mandibular condylar chondrocytes after the condylar cartilage was stimulated by compressive stress.Methods:20 condylar cartilage samples were obtained from 10 new borne SD rats and cultured for 24 h.Then,10 samples were treated by a static compressive stress with a magnitude of 10 kPa for 1 h.Another 10 samples without stress treatment were used as the controls. Objective To explore new insight into the immunopathogenesis of ulcerative colitis.Methods Immunohistochemistry for the immunoglobulin(IgG)and complement(C 3c )was performed in biopsy specimens of the mucous membrane from 50 patients with ulcerative colitis(32 in active state and 18 in inactive state)and 5 controls.Results The immunoglobulin and activated complement were found in the epithelium mucosae and basement membrane of capillary walls in ulcerative colitis,with highest density in patients with active ulcerative colitis as compared with inactive ones.Conclusions The activation of immunoglobulin(IgG)and complement(C 3c )are closely related to active ulcerative colitis which plays an important role in the tissue damage of active ulcerative colits.Immunoglobulin(IgG)and complement(C 3c )are important components of immunoregulatory network of ulcerative colitis

Objective To study the changing of subsets of blood lymphocyte in adult SARS patients and its effect on the clinical features and prognosis. Methods According to the clinical characteristic diagnostic standards of SARS recommended by the Ministry of Health of China, 206 of hospita lized SARS patients were divided into 3 groups: Mild-Moderate group included 13 3 patients; severe group 50 patients and death group 23 patients, and cells coun t changes of CD4 +, CD8 +, CD19 + and CD16 +. Objective To investigate Chlamydia trachomatis infection and gene variants in child- bearing women in Beijing. Methods Endocervical samples were collected from 177 patients in a family planning clinic and a gynecologic clinic. C.trachomatis infection was screened with a fast diagnostic kit .Major outer membrane protein(MOMP) gene was amplified by a nested PCR . A 1.1kb amplified product was obtained and studied by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis(RFLP). Variant domains of MOMP gene VS1,VS2,VS3,VS4 were sequenced with 373A automated sequencing system. Results C. trachomatis was found in 9 of 177 samples. Four samples were identified as F genotype, 3 E genotype and 2 D genotype. Variant domains of MOMP gene, VS1, VS2, VS3, VS4 were sequenced and the results were consistent with those of RFLP, however, mutations were found in MOMP gene in 4 samples. Conclusion C.trachomatis urogenital infection has been identified in a portion of child- bearing women in Beijing. C.trachomatis can be well genotyped with RFLP or gene sequencing of MOMP gene.

Background Wearing of soft contact lens,as one of the important methods to correct ametropia,has been widely applied at present.The clinically deleterious effects of soft contact lens have been reported,but researches about influence of apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells are scant.Objective This study was to detect and compare the ratio of apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells between the patients with contact lens wearing and without contact lens wearing,and explore the influence of soft contact lens wearing for long term on growth of corneal epithelial cells after injury.Methods A retrospective nest case-controlled study was designed.Forty eyes of 20 myopic patients with wearing of soft contact lens for ≥5 years and 40 eyes of 20 myopic patients without wearing of soft contact lens were included in Affiliated Hospital of Guiyang Medical College.All the patients received the off-flap epipolis laser in situ keratomileusis (Epi-LASIK) from 2010 October to 2011 June.The corneal flaps were collected during the surgery.The apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells was detected by flow cytometry(FCM),and the difference of apoptotic proportion between the two groups was compared using independent sample t test.Results The FCM scatter plot showed that compared to the without contact lens wearing group,the early stage of apoptotic cells with high staining annexin V and low staining proaium iodide (PI) were much more,and survival cells with low staining annexin V and PI were less,and necrotic and late stage of apoptotic cells with high staining of annexin V/PI were more in the with contact lens wearing group.The early stage of apoptosis proportion of corneal epithelial cells was (11.23 ± 5.31)％ in the with contact lens wearing group,and that in the without contact lens wearing group was (7.31± 5.43)％,showing a significant difference between them (t=2.754,P=0.008).Conclusions A long term wearing of contact lens induce more apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells,which can result in a disorder of structure and function of ocular surface during the wound healing stage.
