Objective To investigate the association of blood transfusion volume with early death among recipients with known duration of infection in rural central China. Methods From January 1, 1999 to December 30, 2003, 76 individuals with duration of blood transfusion who met the study criterion had been found to be infected in the HIV/AIDS notified system in rural of Yuncheng Prefecture of Shanxi Province, China. A retrospective study was conducted to investigate Socio-demographic characteristics, transfusion volume, and mortality. Cox' proportional hazard regression model was used to analyze the data. Results By December 30, 2003, among 76 subjects with transfusion-acquired HIV infection, 24 recipients had died. Mortality rate and median survival was 45.64 and 8.3 per 1000 person years, respectively. Transfusion volume (HR=3.12, 95% CI: 1.18～8.25; P=0.0218) was significantly associated with mortality in recipients in the multiply Cox' proportional hazard regression model. Conclusions This study suggests that more units of transfusion in recipients with known duration of HIV infection can influence time to death in recipients in China.

Objective To observe the time course of the changes in nitric oxide (NO) content and the activity of NO synthase (NOS) during hippocampal long term potentiation (LTP) in vitro . Methods The production and maintenance of LTP were detected by using extracelluar electrophysiological recording. NO content and NOS activity were determined by biochemical reaction. The expression of NOS mRNA was detected by in situ hybridization. Results Conditioning stimulation for 10 min induced LTP production and significant increases in NO content, NOS activity and expression of NOS mRNA. However, at 60 min after conditioning stimulation, LTP remained stably but NO content and NOS activity returned to the pre conditioning stimulation level. Moreover, the NOS mRNA was overexpressed at the early stage of LTP production. Conclusion Significant NO changes may occur at the early stage of LTP formation.

Objective:To investigate the antitumor effect of CpG-ODN combining non-replicating recombinant vaccinia virus in tumor immunotherapy.Methods: CpG-ODN and constructed vaccinia virus v△11?75 were combined to study the antitumor effects in the walker′s rat tumor model.Results: Recombinant vaccinia virus v△11?75 lost the replicating capacity on human cell line,143TK - cell.The genes between HindⅢ C & K fragment of vaccinia virus TianTan strain were deleted,verified with Southern-blot. In the Walker′s tumor model of Wistar rats,Combinational immunotherapy with CpG-ODN and non-replicating vaccinia virus-modified WRC256 oncolysates resulted in prolonged life span and reduced tumor hyperplasia. Conclusion: CpG-ODN can enhance the antitumor effects of non-replicating vaccinia virus-modified oncolysates,providing a new route of tumor therapy.

Thirty-five patients with ketosis-prone diabetes (KPD) and 38 patients with newly-diagonosed common type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) were treated with insulin for 3 months.The results showed that the existing insulin resistance in patients with KPD was mild as compared with common type 2 DM, and the recovery of insulin sensitivity was less marked in patients with KPD after blood glucose was well controlled.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficiency of intermittent photic stimulation (IPS) with pattern and red color plastic plates in video-electroencephalography(EEG).Methods Three hundred and fifty-eight patients hospitalized in Wuhan Children's Hospital from March 2013 to March 2014 were selected,and they were examined by using stroboscope with a red plastic plate,a dots printed plastic plate,and ordinary white flicker for photic driving response (PDR),photoparoxysmal responses (PPR),photoconvulsive response (PCR).The results of patients with PDR,PPR,PCR were analyzed.Results The PDR synchronously evoked by the three flickering patterns were in 29 cases,and the amplitude of photic drivings evoked by ordinary white flicker and red flicker were higher than that of flickering dot pattern [(30.294 ± 7.767) μV,(31.103 ± 8.920) μV vs (24.436 ± 8.075) μV],and there were significant differences(t =2.983,2.815,P =0.003,0.008).However,there was no significant difference between ordinary white flicker and red flicker (t =0.368,P =0.710).The PPR evoked were in 17 cases,and 16 cases (94.12％) of them were evoked by red color,while 10 cases (58.82％) wcre evoked by white light,and 1 case only evoked by flickering dot pattern.However,stronger intensity and longer duration time of PPR were evoked by red color than by white light.In 3 patients with positive PCR,the epileptic seizure was more likely to be evoked by red color or pattern plastic plate.Conclusions IPS with red and pattem plastic plate is more potent in eliciting photosensitive epilepsy in video-EEG than the ordinary white light.Moreover,it could reduce the discomfort of eyes without influencing PDR in comparison to the ordinary white light.

Objective:To explore the application and nursing of protein A immunosorbent in patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum diseases.Methods:Ten patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum diseases were treated with protein A immunoadsorption therapy. Psychological nursing was emphasized. Comprehensive evaluation was conducted before adsorption to determine the prescription of adsorption therapy. During adsorption therapy, hypotension, membrane rupture and hemolysis of plasma separator, shivering and other adverse reactions were accurately prevented and treated. After treatment, attention should be paid to the prevention of nosocomial infection, regeneration and preservation of adsorption column.Results:After immunoadsorption therapy, the serum IgG level, antibody and EDSS score of 10 patients decreased to varying degrees. The serum IgG decreased from (6.04±2.77)g/L to (2.23±1.74)g/L. No serious complications occurred, no failure of immunosorbent operation, and the patients′ condition was better than before.Conclusions:Protein A immunosorbent therapy for neuromyelitis optica spectrum diseases is safe and effective. Standardized evaluation, operation and nursing are the key to achieve good results.

Objective To study the expression and significance of acid-sensing ion channels(ASICs)in rat articular cartilage with adjuvant arthritis. Methods Complete Freund's adjuvant(CFA) was prepared by suspending heat-killed Bacillus Calmette Guerin(BCG) in liquid paraffin at 10 mg/ml. CFA-induced arthritis was developed by injection of 100 μl CFA emulsion intradermally into the right hind paw. The morphological changes of articular tissues was observed by light microscope; RT-PCR and immunoblotting analyses were used to detect ASICs in rat articular cartilage with adjuvant arthritis. Results RT-PCR and western blot showed that ASIC1a, ASIC2a and ASIC3 were present in the articular cartilage of normal and model group, the ASICs mRNA levels in the model group were higher than in the normal group detected by semiquantitative analysis (P＜0.01), ASICs protein levels in model group were higher than those in the normal group (P＜0.01) when examined by immunoblotting. Conclusion The results show that the expression of ASICs in AA articular cartilage is enhanced and it may be related with articular cartilage breakdown.

To elucidate the mechanism of arrhythmia in healed myocardial infarction (HMI), the changes of action potential duration (APD), transient outward potassium current (Ito), delayed rectifier potassium current (IK) and inward rectifier potassium current (IK1) of left ventricular myocytes in non-infarcted zone of HMI were investigated. Rabbits were randomly assigned into two groups: HMI group, in which animals were subjected to thoracotomy and ligation of the circumflex coronary and sham-operated group, in which rabbits underwent thoracotomy but no conorary ligation. 3 months after the operation, the whole myocyte patch clamp technique was used to record APD, Ito, IK, and IK1 of ventricular myocytes in non-infarcted zone. Our results showed that the membrane capacitance was larger in HMI group than in sham-operated group. Action potential duration was significantly lengthened in HMI group and early afterdepolarization (EAD) appeared in HMI group. The densities of Ito, I(K, tail), and IK1 were reduced significantly in HMI group, from 6.72 +/- 0.42 pA/pF, 1.54 +/- 0.13 pA/pF and 25.6 +/- 2.6 pA/pF in sham-operated group to 4.03 +/- 0.33 pA/pF, 1.14 +/- 0.11 pA/pF and 17.6 +/- 2.3 pA/pF, respectively. It is concluded that the reduced densities of Ito, I(K, tail) and IK1 in ventricular myocytes of non-infarcted zone in HMI were responsible for the prolongation of APD and the presentation of EAD which played important roles in the development of malignant arrhythmia in HMI.
