Chinese Journal of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine 2015;(3):131-133
Leech has a broken blood stasis effect and has been used to eliminate a variety of stasis diseases. With the development of modern pharmacology study, in recent years, leeches are widely used in clinical cancer patients, and its anti-tumor effects have been confirmed by numerous clinical and experimental studies. Based on the latest domestic and foreign literature analysis and summary, this article discussed the antitumor mechanisms of leech from the following aspects:inhibition of tumor growth and proliferation, induction of tumor cell apoptosis, inhibition of tumor angiogenesis, anti-platelet aggregation and anti-clotting effect, improvement of immunity, and anti-tumor multi-drug resistance. It also pointed out deficiencies and controversy in current studies, with a purpose to provide ideas for further researches and clinical applications.
3.Application of prostaglandin E1 improves graft viability in the immediate period after liver transplantation
Chinese Journal of Organ Transplantation 1996;0(03):-
Objective To study the cytoprotective effect of prostaglandin E1(PGE1)in the imme- diate period after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT).Methods Ten patients undergoing OLT were divided into 2 groups: group P (n=6) was administered with PGE1 and group C (n=4) served as control group. Serum ALT, AST, TBIL, DBIL, bile output and the period of intensive care unit (ICU) in both groups were observed in the first 3 weeks after OLT. Results Postoperative increases in serum ALT, AST, TBIL and DBIL levels were significantly suppressed by PGE1. In addition, PGE1 contributed distinctly to an increase of bile output (P

Objective To investigate the clinical application of laparoscopic adrenalectomy and summarize the experience in laparoscopie adrenalectomy. Methods From August 2002 to March 2007,21 cases of benign adrenal tumors were treated with retroperitoneal laparoscopy in this hospital. There were 9 cases of adrenocortical adenoma, 7 cases of primary aldosteronism,3 cases of adenocorticol macronodular hyperplasia,1 case of pheochromccytoma, and 1 case of adrenal gangliocytoma. Results Retroperitoneal laparoscopy was successfully applied in 21 cases.Operating time was between 65 and 130min with an average of 95 min.All patients did not receive blood transfusion and had no obvious complications. Conclusion Laparoscopic adrenalectomy had the advantages of minimal morbidity,mini- mal postoperative discomfort and a short hospital stay, whieh had a good prospect for application in the clinical prac- tice.

BACKGROUND:Bone cement used in the vertebroplasty treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures is nonabsorbable and has stronger intensity than normal bone tissue, which can cause further fractures of adjacent segments. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the short-term effect of vertebroplasty with artificial bone in the treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures. METHODS:A total of 21 patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures were enrol ed, including 7 males and 14 females, aged 61-89 years old. Al the patients were subjected to vertebroplasty with calcium sulfate injection. Visual analog scale and Oswestry Disability Index assessment were used before and at 0, 24, 48 weeks after treatment;meanwhile, X-ray and CT were used to observe the fil ing and leakage of artificial bone. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After treatment, al the patients showed improvements in the scores of visual analog scale and Oswestry Disability Index (P<0.01). X-rays and CT scans showed that there were three cases of leakage but without spinal cord and nerve compressions. After 3 months, most of the artificial bone was absorbed. These findings indicate that vertebroplasty with artificial bone can ease pain and improve living conditions of patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.

Objective To investigate the distribution of characteristics, clinical manifestations, laboratory parameters and activity index of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to determine their role in helping to make correct clinical diagnosis and disease the activity evaluation of SLE.Methods Collect the data of 1037 SLE patients of Ningxia Medical University Affiliated Hospital from January 2006 to June 2010.Data were analyzed with t test and Chi-square test. Results Over the past three years, there were more and more patients were admitted year by year.Among the 1037 cases of SLE patients, most of them 20-40 year-old woman, accounting for 67.5% of the whole patient population, with a male to female ratio was 1:8.26.Joint pain was the most common initial symptom, accounting for 54.3%,followed by skin rash, accounting for 48.2%.Decreased complement C3 level and platelets counts, proteinuria, and positive anti-dsDNA antibody could be used as indicators for early diagnosis of SLE.SLEDAI activity score higher than 9 were presented in 26.0% of patients.Factors that could impact the final score of SLEADI were fever, arthritis, skin rash, proteinuria, low complement levels, high titers of anti-dsDNA antibody, pleurisy, alopecia, mucosal ulcers, pericarditis, mental illness and decreased platelets count.Patients with active disease had a higher accidence of fever, arthritis, skin rash, lung damage, alopecia, mucosal ulcers, heart damage, mental illness and renal damaged, low complement levels, high level of anti-dsDNA antibody titers and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Conclusion SLE is a multi-system disease with multiple organ involvement, with characteristic clinical symptoms and immunological abnormalities, thus early diagnosis is very important.Understanding the characteristics of the diseases, correct judgement of the disease activity, reasonable and effective treatment all can delay the development of organ damage and improve the prognosis.

Objective To improve the experience of diagnosis and evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of the surgical management for ureteral fibroepithelial polyp. Methods The clinical date of 29 patients with ureteral polyps admitted in Peking Union Medical College Hospital during 2001 to 2014 were analysed retrospectively. The patients' age was between 1 1 to 84 years and 19 were male.Twenty patients with frank pain and two patients with hematuria were enrolled.Seven patients were found hydronephrosis. Results Twenty-nine cases were treated surgically.Fifteen cases were treated by ureteroscopic laser ablation,10 cases local resection and reanastomosis,1 case of abnormalities duplex kidney and ureter underwent local resection and ureteroplasty,2 case Partial ureterectomy including the polyps and pyeloplasty,1 cases nephroureterectomy because of giant hydronephrosis and nonfunctional kidney. No recurrences were seen during a mean follow-up of 32 months (range 10-56 mos).No ureteral stricture occurs. Conclusions Ureteral fibroepithelial polyps represent a rare pathology.Local resection is the main treatment.Endoscopic management is recommended to minimize morbidity and complications in treatment of ureteral fibroepithelial polyps.Recurrences seem to be rare in these tumors.
