Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2021;56(6):1580-1590
The tumor microenvironment (TME), a dynamic and complex local environment, interacts with the tumor cells and is closely related to tumor growth, metastasis, immune escape and drug resistance. Thus, targeting the TME has been a worldwide focus in cancer therapy. Many natural products possess the advantages of multiple targets, multiple pathways and wide pharmacological functions, and are the main source of antitumor drugs. In recent years studies have found that some natural products had advantageous effects on the TME. In this review, we summarize the components and functions of the TME and some natural products that target the TME, with references to the drug therapy of cancer.

Objective To compare the features of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) to differentiate Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VD). Methods It was analyzed of the MRI and EEG from 39 patients with AD and 56 patients with VD, to compare the proportion of cerebral atrophy, hippocampal atrophy and leukoaraiosis in MRI, and the proportion of the moderate to severe disorder of EEG and the power spectrum. Results The proportion of cerebral atrophy and hippocampal atrophy was more and leukoaraiosis was less in the AD group than those in the VD group. The proportion of the moderate to severe disorder of EEG increased in AD group, and the ratio of (θ+δ)/(α+β) of whole brain was more in the AD group than in the VD group (P<0.05). Conclusion It is more likely to be AD in dementia patients with atrophy without leukoaraiosis and cerebral ischemic lesions, especially for those with severe abnormal EEG.

BACKGROUND: Antinuclear antibody, anticentromere antibody, anti-cytoplasm antibody, and antibody against SCL-70 are the main self-antibodies involved in systemic scleroderma (SSc) and are closely connected with the development of SSc.OBJECTIVE: To probe the value of various self-antibodies and proteins in evaluating the functional prognosis of patients with SSc. DESIGN: Case-control study.SETTING: Clinical Laboratory of Second Hospital Affiliated to Jiangxi Medical College.PARTICIPANTS: Totally 74 patients, 19 males and 55 females aged 12-59years old, were confirmed of SSc at the outpatient and inpatient departments of Second Hospital Affiliated to Jiangxi Medical College between December 1995 and December 2004. There were 46 cases of diffuse cutaneous SSc, 24 cases of localized cutaneous SSc, and 4 cases of overlapping syndrome. Meanwhile40 inpatients (14 males and 26 females aged 19-54years old) who received treatment due to other diseases were recruited from the same hospital.METHODS: The level of antinuclear antibody, anticentromere antibody, and anti-cytoplasm antibody was detected with indirect irnmuneofluorescence assay; antibody against SCL-70 was detected with Western blot; the level of serum immunoglobulin, C-reactive protein (CRP) and rheumatoid factor was examined with velocity dispersion turbidimetry.ticentromere antibody, anti-cytoplasm antibody, and antibody against SCL-70;RESULTS: Blood samples collected from the 74 patients with SSc and 40controls were proved eligible and all data entered the final statistical analanti-cytoplasm antibody, and antibody against SCL-70: It was obviously higher in SSc group than in control group [66% (49/74), 53% (39/74), 39%(29/74), 7% (5/74), 0, (x2=57.15, P < 0.01)]. The positive rate of antinuclear antibody in patients with diffuse cutaneous SSc was significantly lower than in patients with localized cutaneous SSc [57% (26/46), 83%(20/24),(x2=5.03, P < 0.05)], but the positive rate of antibody against SCL70 was significantly higher than localized cutaneous SSc [48% (22/46),rheumatoid factor in patients with SSc was markedly higher thanin control group [(16.89±11.94), (11.89±2.05) g/L; (23.06±6.18), (22.44±5.53) IU/mL,t=8.01, 2.46, P < 0.01].CONCLUSION: The positive rate of antinuclear antibody, anticentromere antibody, anti-cytoplasm antibody, and antibody against SCL-70, as well as the level of immunoglobulin G and rheumatoid factor were obviously increased in patients with SSc, suggesting that these experimental parameters have the value in evaluating the prognosis of SSc.

BACKGROUND: There have been reports about the cochlea injury after high-velocity projectile wounding. The effect on ultrastructure of cochlea after blast was still unclear.OBJECTIVE: To investigate ultrastructural changes of cochlea and cochlear nerve after maxillofacial blast wound.DESIGN:A randomized controlled observational trail with dogs as subjects.SETTING: Otolaryngeal Department and Maxillofacial Surgery Laboratory of the Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: The study was conducted from August 1995 through July 1997. The animal model in maxillofacial blast wound was established in Animal Center of Xinqiao Hospital of the Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA. Specimens were treated in Maxillofacial Laboratory and observed in Electron Microscope Laboratory. Totally 15 dogs of either sex (weighting 9. 5 - 13.5 kg, mean 11.3 kg ) were randomly divided into three groups with 5 in each group. Two groups served as trauma groups 1 and 2 and the other group as control.METHODS: The maxillary and mandibular regions of 10 dogs in trauma groups were wounded by model 8 cardboard-shelled detonators to establish animal model of maxillofacial blast wound. At the 1st and 6th hour after trauma the wounds were examined and specimens of cochlea and cochlear nerve were dissected out for electron microscopic observation to study the ultrastructural changes. The specimens in the control group were treated the same way as those in the trauma groups except for blast injury.RESULTS: After wounded, the cochlea and cochlear nerve in the early period manifested cilia disorder, edema of the nerve and mitochondrial degeneration. At the 6th hour after trauma there were extensive degeneration in cochlea and cochlear nerve, cilia fallen off hair cells and dissolution of the structures in nerve sheath.CONCLUSION: The ultrastructural changes of cochlea and cochlear nerve are severed as a result of maxillofacial blast wound, but in early period the injury is reversible. So it is very important that early cure should be emphasized in treatment.
