Background Serum cystatin C levels can be used to predict morbidity and mortality in patients with cardiovascular disease. However, the clinical relevance of serum cystatin C levels in patients with hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) has rarely been investigated. We designed the present study to investigate whether serum cystatin C levels are associated with cardiac structural and functional alterations in hypertensive patients. Methods We enrolled 823 hypertensive patients and classified them into two groups:those with LVH (n=287) and those without LVH (n=536). All patients underwent echocardiography and serum cystatin C testing. We analyzed the relationship be-tween serum cystatin C levels and LVH. Results Serum cystatin C levels were higher in hypertensive patients with LVH than in those without LVH (P<0.05). Using linear correlation analysis, we found a positive correlation between serum cystatin C levels and interven-tricular septal thickness (r=0.247, P<0.01), posterior wall thickness (r=0.216, P<0.01), and left ventricular weight index (r=0.347, P<0.01). When analyzed by multiple linear regression, the positive correlations remained between serum cystatin C and interventricular septal thickness (β=0.167, P<0.05), posterior wall thickness (β=0.187, P<0.05), and left ventricular weight index (β=0.245, P<0.01). Con-clusion Serum cystatin C concentration is an independent marker for hypertensive LVH.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the effect and prognosis of stage I total hip replacement in the treatment of severe hip osteoarthritis with proximal femoral fracture.
METHODS:
From July 2014 to October 2017, 8 patients with severe end-stage hip disease and proximal femoral fracture were treated with stage I total hip replacement including 6 males and 2 females, aged 59 to 72 years old with an average age of 65 years old, involving 4 femoral head necrosis with proximal femoral fracture in the right side, 3 femoral head necrosis with proximal femoral fracture in the left side, and 1 left acetabular dysplasia with proximal femoral fracture in the left side. The average time from injury to operation was 7 days. Eight patients were treated with biologically elongated hip prosthesis.
RESULTS:
Eight patients with stage I total hip arthroplasty were followed up for 12 to 48 months with an average of 31 months. During the follow-up period, there was no loosening or subsidence of the prosthesis. Harris score increased from 33 points (22 to 42 points) preoperatively to 87 points(82 to 90 points) at the last follow-up. Among them, 3 cases were excellent and 5 cases were good. Abandoned abduction and walked 3 months after operation. X-ray films during 3-6 months after operation showed that fracture healing was good, hip pain and function were improved significantly, and the quality of life was greatly improved.
CONCLUSIONS
Phase I total hip arthroplasty for severe hip osteoarthritis patients with proximal femoral fracture has the advantages of shortening the treatment time, alleviating patients'pain, reducing hospitalization costs and good prognosis.

This paper proposes a nonlinear method of detecting the blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) in a wide range on the basis of spectrophotometry, solves the nonlinear problem in detecting SpO2 in a wide range, and improves the applicable range and detection precision. CAN bus communication and DSP fast digital signal processing are utilized in the design of a non-invasive pulse blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitor in a wide range, which has a measure error below 3% within a range of 35% approximately 100%, and is applicable for clinical monitoring and detection of cosmonauts' physiological signals. This oximeter's components and their functions are also introduced in detail in the paper.

This study was aimed to discriminate the alleles in the HLA-C*07:01:01G and HLA-C*07:02:01G groups and analyze their associations with HLA-B locus. Samples previously typed as HLA-C*07:01:01G and HLA-C*07:02:01G were collected. The nucleotide sequences in exons 1 to 7 of the HLA-C locus were sequenced by polymerase chain reaction sequence-based typing (PCR-SBT) and HLA-B genotyping was also preformed by PCR-SBT in these samples. The results showed that 4 samples (30.8%) were confirmed as HLA-C*07:01:01 and 9 samples (69.2%) were HLA-C*07:06 among 13 samples previously typed as HLA-C*07:01:01G. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis showed that HLA-C*07:06 allele was strongly related with HLA-B*44:03. All samples were typed as C*07:02:01 among 102 individuals previously typed as C*07:02:01G. LD analysis showed that C*07:02:01 was strongly related with HLA-B*51:01, B*46:01, B*39:01, B*40:01, B*38:02, B*15:02 alleles. It is concluded that HLA-C*07:01:01 and HLA-C*07:06 alleles are confirmed in the HLA-C*07:01:01G group and HLA-C*07:02:01 is a preferred allele in the HLA-C*07:02:01G.

Chinese Journal of Medical Genetics 2012;29(5):566-569
OBJECTIVETo explore the molecular basis of an individual featuring an ABx variant of ABO blood group system.
METHODSSerological assays were used to characterize the erythrocyte phenotypes and salivary ABH secretors. All of the seven exons and flanking introns of ABO glycosyltransferase gene were amplified with polymerase chain reaction (PCR). And the products were sequenced bidirectionally following enzyme digestion. Exons 6 and 7 were also subcloned and analyzed for haplotypes of the ABO gene.
RESULTSErythrocytes of the proband have expressed a strong A antigen and a weak B antigen, which was identified as a rare ABx variant in addition with other serological features. Nine heterozygous sites in exon 6 (297A/G) and exon 7 (467C/T, 526C/G, 657C/T, 703G/A, 796C/A, 803G/C, 808T/A, 930G/A) of the coding region of the ABO gene were identified. Based on haplotype analysis, one allele was determined as common A102, whilst another was consistent with B101 except for an 808T>A mutation which has resulted in replacement of phenylalanine with isoleucine at position 270 of glycosyltransferase B.
CONCLUSIONThe 808T>A mutation of the glycosyltransferase B gene may decrease the enzymatic activity and result in the Bx variant.
