ObjectiveTo observe the efficacy of rehabilitation therapy for patients and experimental animals with short bowel syndrome.MethodsThirty SD rats were randomly divided into control group, short bowel group and growth hormone (GH) treatment group.Short bowel was produced by resecting 80% of the rats′ small intestine, growth hormone at a dosage of 1?U/kg?d was delivered to the rats from POD1 to POD28.Nine patients with short bowel syndrome were enrolled in the study, the average length of the small intestine was (44?24)?cm, 3 cases had also suffered a short colon.ResultsIncreased ratio of S phase cells, proliferation index and expression of proliferative cell nucleus antigen (PCNA) were observed, indicating the putative effects of exogenous GH on residual small intestinal mucosa. The mechanism of action was probably through the alteration of protooncogene C-jun. The nutritional state of the patients and the absorptive capacity of the residual intestine improved markedly. Follow up were made to 8 patients,75% of the patients have weaned TPN,25% of them need intermittent TPN supplementation.ConclusionsRehabilitation therapy provides a new and effective alternative for short bowel patients.

BACKGROUND:Local injection with simvastatin can induce osteogenesis, significantly increase the bone mineral density and mechanical strength of femoral neck and femoral condyle of rats with osteoporosis and analyze effects of local injection of simvastatin on trabecular bone of the femoral condyle.
OBJECTIVE:To explore the effects of local injection of simvastatin on trabecular bone of the femoral condyle of osteoporotic rats and provide experimental basis for the application of simvastatin in clinical topical treatment of osteoporosis.
METHODS:Eighteen female Sprague-Dawley rats received bilateral ovariotomy at 3 months, and were used to produce rat models of osteoporosis. They were assigned into three groups. Experimental rats received 5 and 10 mg simvastatin by single injection into right femoral cavity. Control rats received blank vector. The rat models were sacrificed at 1 month after injection and specimens were col ected. Right femoral condyles were taken out for bone histomorphometric analysis by Micro-CT.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:One month post-injection, Micro-CT scanning results revealed that cortical bone thickness, trabecular bone density and connection rate were significantly better in the simvastatin group than those in the control group. Results indicated that single injection of smal-dose simvastatin obviously promoted rebuilding of trabecular bone of condyles of femur, improved microstructure of skeleton, strengthened local skeleton, prevented and treated osteoporosis, and provided a further basis for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, especial y for osteoporotic fractures.

Objective To establish a real-time fluorescent quantitative RT-PCR for detecting SARS-Coronavirus (CoV) mRNA in gargling liquid and serum of SARS patients. Methods The assay is based on simplified nested fluorescent RT-PCR. Total RNA was extracted from gargling liquid and serum by using high performance system and reverse-transcription by antisense primer. The specific TaqMan probe was designed according to the published DNA sequence of SARS-CoV polymerase and labeled with FAM and TAMRA. Standard curves for SARS-CoV quantification were prepared with serial dilutions of the recombinant plasmid. Results The method is highly sensitive and specific. The sensitivity of assay was 1?105 copies/L. The positive rate of SARS-CoV mRNA in the gargling liquid of patients was 65.0% (26/40) and 11.5% (6/52) in suspected patients, respectively. SARS-CoV mRNA was not detectable in the gargling liquid from 40 healthy individuals. The positive rate of SARS-CoV mRNA in the serum of SARS patients was 25.6% (10/39). PCR amplification products of 6 suspected patients with SARS-CoV mRNA were confirmed by sequencing and the sequence data were consistent with that of BJ01 AY278488.Conclusions Real-time fluorescent quantitative RT-PCR should be a rapid, specific tool for early diagnosis of SARS-CoV infection.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of triamcinolone combined with vitamin E on preventing fibrous capsule contracture following the second breast augmentation. METHODS: Totally 65 patients who had 130 breasts receiving the second breast augmentation at the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, No.1 People's Hospital of Nanning were collected and served as the treatment group, including 47 cases with capsules contracture and 18 cases with hydrogel clearing. Tri-Kort was injected after the second breasts augmentation, and vitamin E was taken orally for 3 months. Additional 65 cases with 130 breasts received the second breast augmentation were served as control group. The follow-up was performed after half month, and the curative effect was evaluated by Baker grading at 1 year after operation. RESULTS: All cases in the two groups were received 6-24 months follow-up. Only 3 cases (5 breasts) in 65 patients (130 breasts) in the treatment group had capsule contracture (Baker II-III), with 3.8% of capsule contracture, which was obviously less than 18% of capsule contracture in the control group (P < 0.01,13 cases with 23 breasts in the control group). Simultaneously, no drug adverse reaction occurred in the treatment group. CONCLUSION: Triamcinolone combined with vitamin E can obviously depress the rate of capsule contracture after the second breast implantation.

Objective To investigate the role of glutathione (GSH) synthesis in the regulation of Glutamine (Gin) on TNF-α release in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated alveolar epithelial type Ⅱ cells (AEC Ⅱ). Method Primary cultured AECⅡ were divided into six groups, including control, 10.0 mmol/L Gln, 1 μg/mL LPS and LPS+(0.5, 2.0 and 10.0 mmol/L) Gln. In another set of experiments, AECⅡ were divided into six groups including 1 μg/mL LPS, LPS+10.0 mmol/L Gln, LPS+100 μmol/L L-buthionine-(S, R)-sulfoximine (BSO), LPS+Gln+(1,10 and 100 μmol/L) BSO. Each group had three samples. BSO and Gln were added at 8 hours before LPS challenge. After 24 hours of LPS stimulation, cells were obtained for GSH measurement by 5, 5'-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) method. TNF-α level in the supematant was determined by enzyme-hnked immunesorbent assay (ELISA). ANOVA (LSD-t test) was used for statistical analysis. Results Supple-mentation of Gin increased the GSH level and attenuated TNF-α release in LPS-stimulated AEC Ⅱ in a dose-depen-dam manner. GSH level increased from (50.69±3.04) pmol/mg cell (LPS group) to (126.74±7.13) pmol/mg cell (LPS+10.0 mmol/L group) (P<0.01) and TNF-α level decreased from (1104.5±48.8) pg/mL (LPS group) to (329.67±48.27) pg/mL (LPS+10.0 mmol/L group) (P<0.01). BSO, an GSH synthesis blocker, at doses greater than 10 μmol/L reversed the effect of Gin significantly (P<0.01). Conclusions As a precursor ofGSH, glutsmine could attenuate TNT-α release in LPS-stimulated AECⅡ,and the with may be mediated via GSH synthesis.

BACKGROUND:Up to date, whether prosthesis can be implanted simultaneously with the residue of polyacryamide hydrogel (PAMHG) in the breasts still not consistent. OBJECTIVE:To explore the feasibility and long-term curative effect of prosthesis implanted simultaneously with the residue of PAMHG in the breasts. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:The clinical cases analysis was performed at the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery,No.1 People's Hospital of Nanning were collected. PARTICIPANTS:Totally 23 cases, aged 22-42 years, who received silicone gel breast implant (SBI,100-400 mL) were collected. The time from injection to hospital visit was 0.4-4.5 years. METHOD:PAMHG was cleared as possible, followed by implanted 200-260 mL SBI was via retro-mammary space or sub-pectoral space when cases without inflammation reaction. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The wound healing, regression of breast induration,as well as complication and long-term curative effect was followed up. RESULT:The 0.3-3 years follow-up showed that the whole PAMHG was cleared in 7 cases,a majority of PAMHG was cleared in 8 patients, and partially PAMHG was remained in ectopectoralis of 8 patients. All the breasts of the patients were good at exterior. No obvious nodules, infection, ulcer or gel migration occurred. All patients were satisfied with the surgical results. CONCLUSION:It is feasible and safe to implant prosthesis simultaneously with minimal residue of PAMHG if there is no inflammatory reaction.

Chinese Medical Equipment Journal 2004;0(07):-
Objective To search an approach based on Support Vector Machine (SVM) for detection of different abnormalities including micro-calcifications and masses from digital mammograms. Methods Such detections were formulated as supervised-learning problems and SVM was applied to the detection algorithm. After the regions of interest were pre-processed by specific rectangular windows, three kinds of parameters were extracted, including the direct pixel value parameter, the parameters from Spatial Grey Level Dependency (SGLD) matrices and from Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). At first, each kind of parameter was taken as the input of SVM to train and test the machine respectively. Then all the parameters were incorporated into the input of SVM. Results the classification accuracy is 92.28%, 90.35% and 91.12% respectively when only one parameter input. The classification accuracy reaches 99.23% when all the parameter incorporated. Conclusion The parameters extracted from the regions of interest in digital mammograms can reflect the characteristics of different regions and SVM is a powerful tool for the detection of abnormalities from digital mammograms.

Chinese Journal of Radiology 2000;0(12):-
Objective To compare the computed orthopantomography(COPT)with Sh?ller radiography(SR),film orthopantomography(FOPT)and other traditional radiographic techniques in the radiography of temporomandibular joint(TMJ).Methods Ninty-eight cases were randomly divided into 3 groups, and the open and close positions of TMJs of both sides were examined with SR,FOPT,and COPT, respectively. The satisfactory rates of the X-ray pictures were statistically analyzed with Pearson chi-square in SPSS10.0,and the satisfactory rates were analyzed with q test between the groups. Results One hundred and forty-four of the open and close positions of 144 TMJ pictures of the COPT group,128 of 128 of the FOPT group, and 6 of 120 of the SR group were satisfactory in the mandible ramus of the TMJ,with satisfactory rate being 100%,100%,and 5%,respectively(P0.01),respectively between FOPT and COPT groups. The difference was not statistically significant. The exposure was as follows:COPT,99—113 mAs;FOPT,210—225 mAs;and SR,48—75 mAs.Therefore,COPT and FOPT were superior to SR in the pictures of the mandible ramus, coronoid process, and incisure, but inferior in the joint space pictures. The satisfactory rates of the condylar process and articular tubercle were same in the 3 groups. The exposure of the FOPT group was greater than that of the COPT and SR groups. Conclusion COPT is superior to SR and FOPT in TMJ radiography, and should be applied widely in the clinic.
