Objective To explore the distribution and characteristic of class 1 integrons among Shiga toxin-producing E.coli(STEC) in China, and to elucidate the type of cassettes. Methods Antibiotics susceptibility was tested by the disk diffusion method, class 1 integron was detected by PCR assay and PCR products were sequenced and analyzed in eight isolates. Results Four isolates were multiple-drug resistant whose antibiogram were ampicillin,tetracycline,erythromycin,sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim and ciprofloxacin, but two isolates conferred resistance of streptomycin and spectinomycin simultaneously.Only the two isolates carried class 1 integrons ranging in 1 000 bp which located on the plasmid of 7 800 bp.The sequenced PCR product demonstrated that the 1 000 bp integron harbored aad A1 gene cassettes conferred the resistance of streptomycin and spectinomycin;and linked with sul 1 and qacE?1 gene conferred the resistance of sulfamethoxazole and quaternary disinfectants. Conclusion The class 1 integrons exists among STEC isolates in China and determines the resistant antibiotics.

Objective To investigate the effects of antisense oligodeoxynucleotide c-myc (c-myc ASODN) on the growth of rabbit lens epithelial cells (LECs) induced by galactose. Methods Based on the translation initiation region of the second extron of c-myc gene, oligonucleotides were synthesized and modified with phosphorothioate. Lens epithelial cells were treated with galactose and c-myc ASODN. The effects of c-myc ASODN on the growth of LECs, cultured in high concentration of galactose, were observed by cytometry and MTT. Results The results demonstrated that c-myc ASODN at the doses of 2.5-10.0 ?mol/L inhibited the growth of LECs induced by galactose in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion These results indicate that c-myc ASODN can inhibit the growth of LEC induced by galactose.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2011;29(4):346-349
Background Postoperative endophthalmitis following intraocular lens(IOL)implantation is still one of the most feared complications of cataract surgery.Bacterial adhesion to IOLs during their insertion is a prominent etiological factor. The adhesion characteristics of bacteria to IOL are very vital for the prevention of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery. Objective The present study was to observe the in vitro adherence ability of Staphylococcus epidermidis to different intraocular lenses(IOLs)and compare the results in bacterial counting between scanning electron microscopy(SEM)photographs and quantitative cultures. Methods Five types of IOLs,including hydrophobic acrylic IOL,polymethylmethaerylate(PMMA)IOL,heparin-surface-modified(HSM) PMMA IOL,silicone(SI)IOL and hydrophilic acrylic IOL,were put into S.epidermidis(ATCC 12228)suspension for 1 hour. The bacterial adhesion numbers on the IOL surfaces were counted by quantitative cultures and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) photographs. Results Quantitative culture counting of viable adherent bacteria released by sonication showed that hydrophobic acrylic IOL and PMMA IOL were more likely for bacteria to attach. The number of bacteria on the five types of IOL surfaces showed significant differences(F=100.084,P=0.000).No significant differences were found in the number of bacteria between hydrophilic acrylic IOL and HSM-PMMA IOL (t=2.285,P=0.052)with the quantitative culture method.Direct counting of adherent bacteria in SEM photographs revealed that there were significant differences in bacterial adhesion numbers among difierent IOL material groups, with the numbers from high to low as follows:Hydrophobic IOL>PMMA IOL>SI IOL>Hydrophilic IOL>HSM-PMMA IOL(F=118.065,P=0.000).The counting method by SEM method was superior to that by quantitative cultures (t=5.019,P=0.000). Conclusion The bacterial adhesion ability varies upon the difference of IOL materials.Less bacterial adhesion is found on hydrophilic acrylic IOL and HSM-PMMA IOL,implying that the use of IOLs made from these two materials during surgery could diminish the incidence of postoperative endophthalmitis and intraocular inflammation associated with IOLs implantation.

International Eye Science 2016;16(11):2091-2094
AIM: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of combined wavefront - guided and aspheric laser in situ keratomileusis ( LASIK ) to correct myopia and myopic astigmatism.
METHODS: Prospective study. Forty-five patients ( 62 eyes ) with myopia and myopic astigmatism were randomly dividied into two groups:the wavefront-guided and aspheric LASIK group and the wavefront- guided LASIK group. Safety, efficacy, predictability, ocular higher order aberrations(HOAs), and contrast sensitivity under mesopic condition were compared at 6mo postoperatively.
RESULTS: Both platforms had equal safety, efficacy and predictability. At 6mo after operation, total HOAs, spherical aberration and coma increased in both groups(P<0. 01 ). The changes of total HOAs and spherical aberration in wavefront-guided and aspheric group were significantly less than those in wavefront-guided group ( P<0.05 ) , while the change of coma between two groups was not statistically significant ( P = 0. 657 ). Contrast sensitivity in the wavefront-guided and aspheric group recovered to preoperative levels under mesopic conditions at all spatial frequencies ( P > 0. 05 ), while contrast sensitivity in the wavefront-guided group recovered to preoperative levels at all spatial frequencies(P>0. 05).
CONCLUSION: Wavefront-guided and aspheric LASIK induced less HOAs and associated with better mesopic contrast sensitivity compared with wavefront - guided LASIK.

Objective To investigate the guiding significance of medical image three-dimensional visualization system (MI-3DVS) in precise hepatectomy. Methods The clinical data of 45 patients with hepatic neoplasms who were admitted to the Zhujiang Hospital from June 2008 to September 2010 were prospectively analyzed. The preoperative image data of the liver were three-dimensionally reconstructed by MI-3DVS. According to the distribution of the intrahepatic portal veins and hepatic veins, the liver was divided into different sections, and then tumors can be located within these hepatic segments. The volume percentage of residual liver and volume of liver resected were detected. Evaluation of surgical resectability and surgery simulation were done before operation. Results According to the distribution of the intrahepatic portal veins and hepatic veins, all patients were divided into seven types: 21 patients were with normal type which was the same as Couinaud type, six with nondivided type, 11 with non-divided right liver type, four with non-divided left liver type, one with right hepatic vein type, one with double middle hepatic vein type and one with right posterior vein type. Thirty-nine patients received open hepatectomy, and the volume percentage of the residual liver was 74% ± 17%. Postoperative pathological examination confirmed that all the 39 patients were with hepatocellular carcinoma. Six patients received transcatheter arterial chemoembolization. No severe complications such as acute hepatic failure, bleeding, bile leakage were detected. All patients were followed up for six months, and they survived with or without tumor. Conclusion MI-3DVS has guiding significance in preoperative assessment and perioperative guidance for precise hepatectomy.
