Endostatin(ES), the C-terminal fragment of collagen XVIII, is a potent angiogenesis inhibitor. At present, there are a large number of research papers on ES. It has already been on clinical stage Ⅱ and been widely used in inhibition of neovascularization(NV). However, how to improve the bioactivity of ES is still a matter of ongoing discussion. The objective of this review is to elucidate the relationship between the modified ES and ocular neovascualrization, and to discuss the superiority based on the structure modification. The structure can be changed either by covalent modification or by genetical mutation. It is proposed that the secondary structral ES enhance the anti-angiogenic activity. Studies on modified ES also shed light on our understanding of the molecular action mechanisms of ES. Modified ES may be exploited as a new angiogenesis inhibitor for therapeutic applica-tions, in substitution of the native ES. Activity

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2005;3(6):8-10
After 160 cases of chronic type Ⅲ prostatitis were divided into the treatment group (n= 80) and control group (n = 80), in the treatment group, first Zhibian (BL 54) was punctured toward Shuidao (ST 28) and then Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Shuidao (ST 28)Baihui (GV 20), Fengchi (GB 20), Sishencong (Ex-HN 1), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taichong (LR 3) were punctured, and at the same time, digital computerized microwave apparatus was inserted into the anus for microwave treatment. Afterward, moritatherapy was applied for psychological consultation for the patients. In the control group, compound sinomin and Phenoxybenzamine Hydrochloride Tablets were used orally. The results showed that the therapeutic effects were respectively 92.5% and 68.8% in two groups, with statistic significance (P < 0.01).

Aim To investigate the molecular mechanism of anti-proliferation effect of Ginsenoside Rh2(G-Rh2)on mouse MFC gastric cells. Methods The cell viability was determined by MTT method and the state of cell proliferation was analyzed. The morphologic changes were observed by invert microscope and fluorescence microscope(Hoechst 33258).Early apoptotic rate was detected by Annexin Ⅴ-FITC through flow cytometry.Western blot was used to detect the p-JNK and p-c-jun activity in MFC cells.Immunocytochemistry staining was used to detect caspase-3 positive cells. Results G-Rh2 could inhibit proliferation of MFC cells in a dose-and-time-dependent manner. The morphological changes of apoptosis were observed in MFC cells after G-Rh2 treatment. The apoptotic ratio was increased. The phosphorylation of c-Jun and c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase(JNK)activity increased with time within 4 h compared with that of control. The expression of caspase-3 positive cells was increased. But all the above could be partly inhibited by pre-treatment with SP600125(5 ?mol?L-1)for 2 h.Conclusion G-Rh2 can decrease cell viability by inducing apoptosis and the process may be associated with the activation of JNK transduction pathway and expression of caspase-3.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2004;0(08):-
Objective To study the relationship among insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3(IGFBP-3) and birth weight, length and placental weight and to discuss the endocrine factors which affected fetal growth by assaying levels of IGF-1、IGFBP-3 in umbilical cord serum. Methods The neonates were divided into appropriate for gestational age infant(AGA) and small for gestational age infant(SGA) according to birth weight and gestation. The birth weight, length and placental weight of neonates were measured and at meantime the levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 were assayed by immunoradiometric assay. Results 1.There were 105 neonates, including 79 AGA and 26 SGA. There were significantly statistical differences in birth weight, length and placental weight (all, P

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2016;36(6):681-684
OBJECTIVETo observe the therapeutic effects of Berberine Capsule (BC) on patients with mild hyperlipidemia.
METHODSTotally 102 mild hyperlipemia patients were recruited. All patients were suggested to have proper diet and physical activity as basic therapy for 1 month of run-in period. Totally 97 patients completed it. Then they were randomly assigned to the berberine group (the treatment group, 49 cases) and the placebo group (the control group, 48 cases). Patients in the treatment group took BC 300 mg, while those in the control group took placebo 300 mg, thrice per day for 3 successive months. Then placebos and BC were interrupted for 2 months (as washout period). All subjects received only diet control and physical activity during washout period. After washout period, placebos and BC were re-administered to all patients in the same way for 3 months. Body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), TG, TC, LDL-C, and HDL-C were assessed after run-in period, washout period, at month 1, 2, 3 after the first therapy, at month 1, 2, 3 after second treatment, respectively.
RESULTSCompared with the end of run-in period, TG, TC, and LDL-C decreased, and HDL-C increased in the treatment group (P < 0.05) after first 3 months of treatment. Compared with 3 months after the first therapy, TG, TC, and LDL-C increased and HDL-C decreased in the treatment group after washout period (P < 0.05). Compared with the end of wash- out period, TC and LDL-C decreased in the treatment group at month 2 after second treatment (P < 0.05); TG, TC, and LDL-C decreased (P < 0.01, P < 0.05), and HDL-C increased (P < 0.05) at month 3 after second treatment. Compared with the control group at month 3 after second treatment, TG, TC, and LDL-C all decreased, and HDL-C increased in the treatment group (all P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONBC was effective in improving blood lipid level in mild hyperlipidemia patients.
